A new accessory for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite is just days away from release which will allow you to mount your console of choice onto your Pro Controller.
Essentially transforming your Switch into a little portable TV, this accessory allows you to use your Pro Controller while playing with the console in handheld mode. Of course, the selling point is that the screen will always be visible - you could walk around while playing it, for example, not needing to set the Switch down somewhere to hold your preferred controller.
It's available to pre-order as we speak from Amazon Japan for ¥1,738 before other fees (approx. £12 / $16). Amazon Japan ships internationally, so you should be able to get your hands on one if you're keen.
We'll be honest: we'd never have asked for this necessarily, but now we've seen it we do kind of want one.
Are you a fan? Do you think you'd get any use out of an accessory like this? Let us know in the comments.

Awesome, a device that turns my Switch into a handheld!
This looks pretty damn sweet, just what i need for play time in bed
I do enjoy using my PRO controller a lot more but I'm more then fine using the joycons attached.
I'm mainly a TV user (I mean it's a portable CONSOLE, after all). I just rely on my HORI Legend of Zelda Kickstand when playing with the Pro Controller. Wouldn't this set up be really heavy?
Imho this works with phones, Switch is just too heavy to feel comfortable. And it kills the mobility factor.
Is it April 1st?
I'd also be worried about tilting it from side to side as I play.
I kind of like it!
Is that thing actually strong enough ?
it looks kinda flimsy.
Not new at all:

There are people selling this on Etsy, making it with their 3d printers. I bought one for $10 and it works well.
I was waiting for this simple thing since launch!
...but can you TATE it?
Why the hell would you want to use that? I can see doing this with a cell phone with an emulator for old retro games so you can play with propper buttons but the switch already has buttons and it's a freaking handheld!
What moron would use this on a switch?
I love a good mounting
I have a mounting like this on phone, but for Xbox One Gamepad.
I also have universal adapters from Moga and Dobe.
This looks kool to me, but I'd be concerned if it falls off. Is this official or not ?
@Zeldafan79 - My guess is that it's for gamers who want to play on the go, but don't like the joy-con buttons and/or control sticks and would prefer to use the pro controller instead; hence this accessory.
@Zeldafan79 Well, for starters, the pro controller is a lot more comfortable to use than the joycons, imo. Also, if this thing can rotate for use in TATE (vertical) mode games, it would be worth it, since the joycons can't be used in that orientation if they're attached to the handheld. That being said, if it can't rotate, I don't really see the point in buying it.
With how much my joycons act up, this might be nice to have for when I want to play handheld at home but don’t want to put any more wear on the joycons.
This actually looks handy for us drift sufferers
If you want to use the pro controller so bad why not play on your TV? I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would prefer to play switch in handheld mode when a TV screen can be so much bigger. I mean sure if you're a kid and mommy and daddy wont let you use the TV. My switch almost never leaves the dock and i certainly wouldn't take it on a bus ride in public with all the crooks out there!
I just use my hori split pro, same price, assignable buttons, and those sticks feel so good.
For those people who REALLY hate the joycon.
I do prefer the pro controller quite a bit. But... this just isn't something I'd consider.
Playing with the joycon on the lite is a better experience than handheld on the og, imho.
I do prefer the pro controller though. As I play in a room with it’s,s around, I find simply proving it up on something and using the pro to be a simple enough (and free) process.
Not a bad idea. Maybe it will find a market. However people who would use something like this (In Hotels while travelling for example) have probably already invested in a decent Carry Case and Kickstand by now.
@Zeldafan79
It’s not about preferring to use it as a portable, it’s having to. That’s why Handhelds have always sold so much and why Switch sells to adults.
Hmm, let's see here. You connect this piece and this piece. Click! Ah, it's all hooked up. Cool. Now, let's unhook the Switch as I just wanted to test this out. K, umm, hmm. It's stuck. Argh! Fidgeting. Damnit it won't come off. More fidgeting. Argh, my Switch won't come off the controller. Let me read the instruction manual. Reads manual. What?! Warning:The Switch will permanently be connected to your controller once you hook it up. You got to be kidding me! I don't want my Switch to be hooked up to my controller forever! Yells loudly. Takes some tools out and tries to force the the Switch to come off the controller. ARGH! You will submit to me! Gets a hammer and hammers away but that doesn't work. Oh yeah! I am a mighty manly man and you shall feel my wrath! Grabs a sledgehammer and beats the sh$t out of the Switch and controller but doesn't help. You will obey me damnit! Grabs a gun and shoots away but it just... won't... come...off! That's it! Grabs a bazooka that was in the toolbox and fires it at the Switch and controller! KABOOM! There's nothing but pieces of the Switch and controller laying on the ground now. I won! Triumphant laughing!
@electrolite77
I totally get that. Nintendo consoles are kid friendly and alot of kids have restrictions on TV use. Glad I'm not 8 years old and stuck playing on my old pea soup gameboy anymore. My parents hated my gaming hobby and almost never wanted me playing on the TV. Well that and i had to share with my siblings.
This is a fascinating accessory. It's like those Android Controllers for your phone that let you dock it to the controller. I would definitely buy it, should it hit stateside.
It looks like you need to create a new account for Amazon.co.jp (if you've got a UK one).
This looks exceedingly uncomfortable.
Why on earth would you make a product designed to be handheld heavier? Honestly if you buy this fir the lite you are a mug.
Seriously? I wouldn't even want one if they were giving them away for free! Surely this comes out April 1st
I've been gaming like this on my shield tablet (streaming from my pc), long before the Switch was a thing (I also have a mount for my Switch).
It works great, but you'll want to rest your hands on your lap or something as the balance isn't that comfortable freehanding
I use the split pad pro for handheld or my iPad stand if I’m laying in bed
@Zeldafan79
I think you’re missing the attraction of portable gaming. Kids, Teenagers and yung Adults still living at home may have unlimited access to a TV. However lots of actual adults have commitments like Work, Commuting, Travel, waiting around for appointments, partners and kids competing for the TV. They’re the people who might use something like this and they’re the people who’ve been buying portables (see Nintendo’s Original Gameboy advertising) and making Switch a success.
I should not need this device. Nintendo should have made the controllers a part of the system to begin with.
Erm, YES PLEASE!
This set-up I've tried before – it feels very unbalanced.
This is available on Amazon UK
FASTSNAIL Pro Controller Mount Clip for Nintendo Switch/Switch Lite, Free Rotation Clip Clamp Holder Handle Bracket for Pro Controller and Nintendo Switch/Lite https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B082NMH5VR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_j.hiEbGBS016Y
@electrolite77 exactly l, the more portable options, the better, i play my phone using a simular mount like this so it would be nice to be able to do the same with the switch too.
@premko1 Imho this works with phones, Switch is just too heavy to feel comfortable. And it kills the mobility factor.
"Troll" factor here.
I use GripCase and that is more then enough to protect and play long hours and can Dock to charge or Dock to play on TV using NIN Dock. That design is not portable not protective of the Switch. Only if your on the couch or secure area where there won't be accidental drops or comes loose will this work.
@Mchi5 same
I don't know. That looks pretty cumbersome. I wish someone would make a high-quality left joycon with a d-pad that also includes everything the official left joycon has, except for the face buttons obviously. Oh well. Back to Etsy.
@Xylnox what.
People. Imagine for a second you commute to work or school via public transportation. You're on a train or a bus for like an hour a day with no table in front of you. But you prefer using the pro controller over the joycons. What's the solution? This. Stop whining about a product existing just because it's something you would use.
Would be better if it could rotate and hold the Switch vertically too
@huyi
Exactly. I feel like the whole ethos of the Switch is versatility. Providing the user with different ways to play. This is just an extension of that.
Gotta be the most awkward way to play a game. Probably gives your forearms a good workout just trying to keep its balance. Poooooo.....
but..... but.... but the Switch is a handheld already. Why would you do this?
@PharoneTheGnome but..... but.... but the Switch is a handheld already. Why would you do this?
Exactly...one reason I invested for the GripCase.
Why would you get a Switch Lite if you are going to use it like that? Seems to defeat the entire purpose of the console.
@SwitchForce
Why? I love my Switch, and I think he's right. Why would you want this thing??
@Zeldafan79
I have games like DOOM, The Witcher and Diablo on both PS4 and Switch. Why on earth would I want to play an inferior version on my tv?? I bought those games for Switch because I'm not too scared to play my Switch on the train or the bus. I enjoy being able to play my Switch while travelling. Maybe you could too, if you gave it a try. Nobody says you have to flash it in the middle of a hardcore ghetto.
@Rohanrocks88 I don't understand. You mean swapping the control stick out for a D-pad instead of the buttons?
Huh... with my left Joy-Con seeming to think it's hilarious to randomly disconnect all the time (not to mention the occasional Tokyo drifting), and the right Joy-Con missing the rubber grip thing... this accessory is actually VERY tempting. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to take it on the train, but for playing in bed it could be pretty fantastic.
Just buy a butterbox grip case or a yox ergo grip. Both sold on Amazon and other places as well. I recommend the ergo grip myself but the butterbox allows the switch to be docked without taking it off.
@kurtasbestos have you updated your controllers?
That's one way to enjoy handheld mode but avoid the dreaded drift. Too bad the Pokemon Let's Go games don't use the pro controller. Otherwise, I'd get one for my Switch Lite.
No thanks. That sounds like a terrible idea, having to play with the added weight on the controller.
Took way too many comments for @Gwynbleidd to say it! While I love the featherweight of the Switch Lite, the absence of HD Rumble is a sad state when I know there should be vibrations in-hand. This would do well for my desires, and I’d think not cause too much strain atop my Pro Controller, given what little heft of my handheld.
@Dirty0814 Yes! The drifting problem got much better, but the random disconnect thing didn't seem to change. Or maybe it did... it almost seems like it depends on the game and whether or not my Switch wants me to finish said game.
@kurtasbestos do you use the joycon controller that came with the switch or did you buy a charging one? I just ask because I bought the charging one which it shouldn't matter if think but who knows. Other things may factor into it as well like distance, what all interference is in the room( which I have a lot so I don't see that as a issue really) and it may make a difference in how you update your controllers. We're they updated whole attached or detached? They may also need another update as well. Not sure if any of this will help at all but hey just trying to help. I know I had the disconnect issue with my Xbox controller and had to update it and no problems since.
@Dirty0814 Thanks for your efforts. It really seems random. Sometimes it'll go hours at a time without problems, but then when it does decide to disconnect it'll happen several times in rabid succession. Something like, "oh, I found the Joy-Con SIKE I didn't really OH WAIT there it is OH SNAP no it's not". For the games that recognize the controller randomly disappearing and that stop to tell me, it's not too much of a hassle, but some games are kind of like "no controller, eh? Whatever, dude", (I'm looking at YOU, Axiom Verge) which is... worthy of complaining. I really only play in portable mode either on the train (surrounded by billions of smart phones, I guess), or in a room with no other major electronics, so who knows if there's a problem there.
