Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 20th - 26th January, revealing that Ring Fit Adventure is the best-selling Nintendo game of the week.
The title sits just behind Yakuza: Like a Dragon this week, with the PS4 title selling just a few hundred more copies than Nintendo's fitness RPG. Pokémon Sword and Shield continues to perform nicely, too, with another 37,950 sales helping it to edge ever closer to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's lifetime sales.
There are no new games in the top ten this week.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
1) [PS4] Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Sega) {2020.01.16} - 39.719 / 196.712
2) [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) {2019.10.18} - 39.217 / 622.646

Cue jokes of the actual yakuza forcibly taking the number one spot.
I think I do want to give Ring Fit Adventure a try at some point but I'm waiting for a decent sale before I bite. I'm not sure that I'll have enough commitment to it to warrant paying full price.
Wow, Ring Fit's numbers are pretty good, I was worried it would fade away pretty fast. I bet it's broken a million units, and frankly just hitting half of that in one place was more than I expected.
The PS5 announcement has pretty much killed PS4 sales stone dead, hasn't it? On the other hand, the X-Box Sex announcement hardly seems to have affected Japanese sales at all...
@BenAV That's what I was doing but then they ran out of stock so I doubt a sale will be coming anytime soon. I tried it out at a trade show and the technology works perfectly. After a 30 min trial I woke up the next day with a sore side from the exercise so it was definitely working.
@Andrew5678 Ring Fit should be at around 2-2,5 millions worldwide. We'll find it tomorrow morning anyway.
@BenAV since they can't produce enough ring fits to satisfy demand and it's nintendo we are talking about, it will be a while before any sales occur (most likely years). But if you are willing to wait, there will probably be some overproduction at the end as always.
@BenAV If you're ever looking for a decent cardio workout ring fit will be great for you. I've only ever lifted as I played american football, but this gives me some great variety in my workouts.
Ahhh man I can’t wait for Yakuza 7 to escape Japan. My PS4 is just a Monster Hunter/Persona/Yakuza machine lol
Ring Fit Adventure is doing pretty well over there. That's nice. It's head-and-shoulders above every other piece of QOL-style software they've made in the past.
@Hrimfaksi Which is fine, I'm pretty patient. If it never ends up getting cheaper then I'll just go without but I'll be keeping my eye out just in case.
@Chunkboi79 Yeah I'm sure, I've heard nothing but good things. I can get a bit lazy though so I'm not sure if I'd stick with it, haha. Plus I have literally no space to stand in my room so would have to play in our shared lounge.
@SuperCharlie78 Right, the quarterly report. Just to clarify, Nintendo mainly focuses on the latest successes, right? I usually hope to see if older titles have improved, but I don't recall them being mentioned in previous reports. I understand the desire to focus on those, I'm just curious.
@Andrew5678 I would be surprised if it wasn’t well over 2 million give that it has 600000 in Japan alone.
It amazes me how well the whole fitness/QoL thing still does in Japan. That fad kind of faded out and luxury gym memberships for those that want to be seen as "in" are in in these parts.
With this huge success, I'm almost 100% sure, that the Ring Fit Trainer will join the SSBU roster in Fighter Pass 2.
Nice. No surprise that Nintendo Switch is dominating since the other consoles are near the end of their life span, but it is still cool.
Well the base model of the switch is outselling the PS4 ten times over and with the Lite another five times over. You have to admit that Nintendo are indeed dominating their homegrown marketplace
Cant wait for the Yakuza RPG (2 of my favorite things as one) Loving DBZ: Kakarot. LM3 holding on.
Funny how the 2 games fighting it out at the top are both games you play at home.
So I guess when gamers find something that resonates with them they find time to play it at home.
Nintendo doing amazing taking over Japan.
Nintendo's financials for the 9 months ending December 2019 will be released within the next 24 hours. Shipment figures for their recent titles should look something like this:
> Pokemon Sword/Shield: 14-15 million (~4.5 million in Japan)
> Luigi's Mansion 3: 6-7 million (~750,000 in Japan)
> Ring Fit Adventure: 2-3 million (~600,000 in Japan)
At the moment, Ring Fit Adventure is my favourite game. Not my all-time favourite, but it is quite a brilliant way to motivate the player to make themselves move, and therefore feel good physically and mentally, while giving a goal, some lightly digestible yet just deep enough game mechanics, bright colourful graphics and "story" to make it more appealing. All at a decent price actually.
I could also argue it's the most straight forward, simplistic "rpg", with a plastic fitness tool included, and it's the most expensive game I bought in years... But it's more than that and the progress in the game is actual progress outside of the virtual world as well.
8 Nintendo NSW Release compared to two PS release. How does one rationally think just that a #1 makes PS better value.
Clearly the story is wrong: Take a really good look here.
Nintendo Switch: 45,720 (10,699,464)
PlayStation 4: 4,121 (7,391,373)
PlayStation 4 Pro: 2,209 (1,435,128)
I am really enjoying Ring Fit, but wish there was a digital version of It outside of Japan.
@Krull The PS5 announcement has pretty much killed PS4 sales stone dead
Based on Alternative-Facts right. Love how naysayers are trying to say something that doesn't exits yet.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions being out already gives me the sads... Hope it was successful enough.
If I recall, when Ring Fit's numbers were first coming in someone in the comments kept calling it a failure for not doing Wii Fit numbers (I can't remember if it was this site or another one I frequent). Obviously it's not going to reach those heights, but I think it's safe to say Ring Fit is a success now, and well deserved.
8 out of the top 10 Switch games. Portable
Gaming is so big in Japan Switch always seemed perfectly calibrated for success in Japan but Nintendo have certainly fulfilled that promise.
I sometimes exercise on my break at work doing YouTube videos but might take my Switch at the weekend and do a bit of Ringn Fit.
@Smashfan502 yes, it's more expensive, but it's not just the game. It comes with the fitness ring, which is actually a quality thing. If you see it as simply a game with "motion controls" it's expensive and lacking, but it being simple makes it very accessible, focused, and actually "cheap" for what it is: a quality, and actually fun home fitness program and tool. Been playing several hours a day for 40 days now, and still haven't seen the end or gotten, well, "tired" of it.
@Discipledoctor yeah! It'll be amazing!
@Krull Weird Funny, the Ps5 weirdly hasn't been announced even though we know it's coming in novmeebr
@Smashfan502
Yup, Air Traffic Control. I love my job though and I actually get more time off than working Mon-Fri 9-5 so it’s all good.
Ring Fit Adventure is fun...when I'm not hurting myself D:
Nice! Happy to see some great Yakuza 7 numbers. Hopefully I'll be caught up by the time it price drops.
All the talk about ring fit never being on sale makes me think I must have hit the jackpot when I got it for 45 bucks!!! It really is a good way to get some exercise in
Yakuza took the top spot, but if you look at the numbers, it only just barely beat Ring Fit, which has been out a lot longer.
@Agramonte
Do you want a round of applause?! Aren't you the one who has been putting down Ring Fit Adventure any chance you could because it wasn't seliing the mad levels Wii Fit was?
What is your point anyway? Play at home or on the go, the Switch lets you do both and is selling games and consoles like gangbusters so proves Nintendo's strategy of letting people choose was the right one.
😂😂😂 I honestly can't believe you are actually looking for some kind of recognition for a simple observation that doesn't even hold true when you look at most other weeks on the chart when games that are portable dominate the charts.
All a bit sad.
Edit: And it just dawned on me you can STILL play Ring Fit Adventure portable if you want so your wee observation is even more pointless.
But well done, thumbs up there buddy.
@SBandy I live in the States where that nonsense barely made it to #20 during the holidays. If we go by Japan, most games and Indies I pick for being Hits would also been wrong 😂
My point has always been the same. Gamers play the game that they care about. If that means finding the time to sit at home and play it on a Switch, PS4, Xbox, PC or a Toaster Oven... that is what they will do.
Yes, that is why everyone is still selling games like gangbuster.
@Agramonte
But it made the top 20 didn't it.
Your post is a non response.
Your comment: "If that means finding the time to sit at home and play it on a Switch, PS4, Xbox, PC or a Toaster Oven... that is what they will do."
So what?! What is your actual point?
And why are you seeking some kind of recognition that people play games in their house? This is not new information.
Finally. Finally. Finally.
@SBandy So it is not selling the mad levels wii-fit was - hence all those times I mentioned it. Not sure why you brought that up.
Great so we agree... it does hold true (again, not sure what was that other rant for 🙃) it is obvious most make the time to play their favorite games at home.
@Smashfan502 Yeah, I think if you like doing everything in RPGs the side quest can get on your nerves.
If you ok with skipping some of the optional stuff it flows much better. I even got the DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment to test it out with it.
@Smashfan502
"But it's not just that, they're making weird changes/differences that I ( & others ) don't like, character and/or story changes"
Yeah, I hear you on that one.
@Agramonte
Ring Fit Adventure has been selling well everywhere else but the USA where it is simply selling OK, based on the obesity rates in the US I would suggest they just aren't that fussed about fitness.
Your point about people playing at home is pointless unless you are using it as reference to some argument I am not aware of.
Edit: Ring Fit now confirmed to have sold over 2 million copies worldwide despite stock issues in the likes of Japan and UK. Not too shabby. Oh and Luigi's Mansion 3 has sold over 5 million.
@SwitchForce Argh, fair enough, I guess it hasn't been officially announced yet. It's just that everyone knows it's coming in 2020 - even Sony has said so, so not quite "alternative facts" - which I thought might explain why the PS4 sales seem to have really slowed down.
@SBandy Nobody who is Obese should be on RingFit. They need to go to a Doctor for advice and look at a standing bike that will take the weight off their frame when working out.
The US obesity rates tanks in the middle of the country. The North East and West Coast States average the same (or better) than the UK.
Great for LM3. Still holding on in the last European chart that covered the holidays - and that is with no digital sales and on 1 system.

@Agramonte
I was just being a bit cheeky with the obesity bit, a bit of banter!
I am happy to see Luigi's Mansion 3 do so well, will probably be a 10 million seller by the end of the Switch's lifespan.
