Update: The Game Collection is running a 5% off everything code running this weekend, which takes the cost of a Switch Lite down to less than £168. The code is ‘5TARTGAME‘ and is valid until midnight on January 19th. (Thanks, farmer_humpf!)
Original Story: With the standard Switch proving to be surprisingly hard to find these days, there's a good chance that prospective owners of Nintendo's latest console may be turning their attention to the more abundant Switch Lite – and if you're one such person and you're based in the UK, then you'll want to take a look at this killer deal.
UK store The Game Collection is selling the two of the three available colour options of the Switch Lite console (the grey unit is out of stock at the time of writing) for just £175.95, including postage costs. That kind of offer hasn't been seen for quite some time, so it's definitely worth snapping up if you're in the market for a Lite right now.

I'm still waiting for the switch lite xl, hopefully with detachable controls that you can play on TV and handheld. Would love some type of hd rumble too if possible
@USWITCH64
So, the Nintendo Switch.
@RupeeClock no switch lite XL
@USWITCH64 lmao good joke post
Good that you have affiliate links to thegamecollection. Usually the cheapest option for games in the UK too.
unless its a Zelda theme Switch Lite i'm not buying
Since ps5 will be announced... i'm sure Nintendo might release the next gen Switch for early 2021... maybe just maybe
I would buy a switch lite after Nintendo improved the terrible D pad.
It was overpriced at 199.99
When you're at one-fiddy I might start paying attention.
I got my daughters Switch Lite with a copy of Luigi's Mansion 3 for £229
I guess Luigi's mansion would cost £49 if bought alone so not that much difference
@Alucard83
No chance of that happening.
@dazzleshell Nice company to deal with too. I've had cause to email them a couple of times and they've always been helpful and friendly.
@USWITCH64 😂😂😂
If price stays the same and you want one or any games/pre-orders, hold off til midnight UK people. They are doing 5% off everything on site. Discount code will be revealed then (as just been posted on their Facebook page).
It's still cheaper in mainland Europe (so if you don't mind using an adaptor you can spare a few bucks before Brexit).
@USWITCH64 @RupeeClock No, the Switch with a D-pad.
@KBuckley27 same, Baby Blue and bright Yellow... aren't really great colors/designs
The Base Switch is fine grey with blue and red joycons but I do miss when consoles used to have a theme based on games for it, the 3DS had tons of great designs
This is why the Switch Lite is a good idea. Yes RRP at launch was £199 but it gives them a lot of margin for price cuts below that.
@jobvd In my experience the d-pad is excellent – I can pull of Ryu fireballs all day long.
@brunojenso Lucky you. I had one that did not register diagonals at all. The second one I had was much better, hadokens where no problem nor were dragon punches. The up right diagonal was really hard to register though so I send both systems back. Worst D pad ever.
I’ve just ordered an original switch (well pre-ordered as it’s out of stock) as the lite is too limited for me...
I have a feeling the lite hasn’t sold as much as Nintendo were expecting.
@jobvd I'm sorry to hear that, and I've heard others have problems.
I just wanted to balance that experience because hearing such things almost made me not buy a lite – but I'm personally delighted by it, and for me the d-pad is one of the best I've ever owned – quite the opposite experience.
I guess Nintendo need to make for more consistency in their product mouldings?
@brunojenso They need to be more consistent. I send back a third unit because it had a dead pixel. One more try and I'm done with the lite.
@jobvd Hope you get a good un
Well as a games enthusiast and hobbyist developer: Please don't buy one.
I am still amazed at how great the Switch Lite is for the money, best handheld for $200 or less easily.
This level of bezel is ok.
Nintendo needs to address the base switch screen.
Let's face it. the Lite is just not selling as expected. It just made the original Switch more attractive with the TV mode.
Great deal. Ill buy one if i was in england. Turqoise boys
@Damo They have a 5% off everything code running this weekend too - takes it down to under £168. The code is STARTGAME and it’s advertised on a banner on the site.
@farmer_humpf Thanks, have added that in!
@JayJ Agreed. The comfort is worlds different to me, too. I get that it’s not for everyone, but it definitely works for me.
I have a grey Switch Lite since Christmas. And yes, this my first Switch (not a second console or whatever). And I'm absolutely thrilled by this little machine.
I was (and still am) a big fan of the PSVITA, so this Lite is basically like a VITA 2 to me. But with the awesomes Nintendo IPs that I loved since an eternity.
It's a very good handeld console. I'm loving it.
@Agramonte
That’s an odd comment.
The sales numbers speak for themselves, so Idk what to tell ya. Switch Lite has essentially doubled the weekly sales in Japan ever since its launch, and there’s been a significant boost in other regions as well.
So it doesn’t really matter what PS4 did or didn’t do.
@Damo The code is wrong, by the way. It's actually 5TARTGAME.
@RainbowGazelle Fixed - thanks!
@HobbitGamer Yup, that was always my attitude. It might not be everyone's ideal handheld, but it is definitely my ideal handheld. I never liked using the launch console as a handheld while I love using the Lite.
I really quite like the Switch lite, I transferred some of my games from another switch and when I went to the dentist I wanted to play some games but I couldn't off wi-fi. It was annoying that's why I got one, I got a good deal over the Christmas period via Amazon. I just got to suss out why I can't play the games out and about....
@JaxonH Nothing Odd about it. Price cuts help sell things. It is literally the concept behind black Friday. Something you want that becomes affordable to get. The Switch already has a sub $200 option and we not even out of year 3. Something the competition never did and still managed to sell really well. Massive difference marketing a product that sells 399 and one that is at 299-175.
Good stuff, an already well priced platform at an even better price.
@Agramonte
Sure, but there’s plenty of other reasons rather than “Switch Lite isn’t selling”.
It could be this one particular retailer in this one particular country isn’t selling them. Or wants to drive traffic to their store. Or whatever.
You can’t draw any conclusions about Switch Lite as a whole based on one retailer in one country having one sale six months after it released. None at all. So it’s a very strange thing to see you try. Especially when we know the thing is crushing it worldwide. And that’s just facts. So it’s like trying to draw some other conclusion when we already know the conclusion based on global sales... why?
And for the record the PS4 Pro was discounted $60 right after it launched during that Black Friday 2016, and then got no less than two other $40+ discounts the following summer.
So you can’t tell me “PS4 never got that” because yes, they did. Revision models go on sale sometimes, and sometimes it’s very soon after release. But usually it’s just a single retailer in a single country doing it for a single weekend. Whether it’s to drive interest or because customers aren’t buying from that particular retailer at that particular time, doesn’t really matter. Bottom line is it is not indicative of the market at large in any capacity whatsoever.

@JaxonH huh?... so we talking 2 different things. I mean the Switch and the LITE as the budget discounted price. (I have no idea why they selling LITE at 175 in this 1 store) It Is that you already have a budget refresh for the Switch. It was already $100 cheaper than the competition first 2 years in the cycle. Now it has already hit the $199 budget refresh early on holiday season #3.
@Alucard83 I believe that Nintendo will release an upgraded Switch with better performance and a better Sharp IGZO display and a magnesium alloy body in summer-fall 2020 before the PS5. More and more information is leaking out that supports my opinion.
@brunojenso Ok, I got my fourth one and this one has a good D pad! It's a huge difference too. Diagonals hit all the time. I'll test it some more to see if it is really good enough but so far so good.
@jobvd That's great news! Hopefully some consistency is appearing in the new stock. Nintendo have given themselves some bad press with this and analog drift issues (another issue I've been lucky not to have).
Anyway enjoy your new d-pad and plenty of hadoukens!
@Bobobiwan Me too for PS-Vita! It's still a system I use almost everyday (mostly because I'm a Spelunky and Wipeout addict), alongside my Switch Lite because they are both the most comfortable light modern handhelds. They make 'new' retro handhelds like the RG350 look like a joke with there low-res screens. Both SL and Vita have amazing sharp screens and a hell of a collection of games. Plus with the Vita hacked you can have huge SD Cards and Retroarch for Gameboy/Colour, GBA, SNES (except Super FX games), MD and Turbrografx 16 (all games I legally own btw).
I honestly don't get those who are all like 'why does the Vita even exist in 2020 etc...'. It does, and it's awesome and Switch Lite is very much Vita 2.0 in terms of weight and feel.
@brunojenso the rg350 is awesome though
@Deljo I had one, and sent it back – it was junk. I couldn't get over the low-res screen. Compared to Vita (which only costs a bit more now) the screen is a terrible blurry mess for anything that doesn't fit perfect it's pixel count perfectly. So SNES, MD, Turbografx and Neo Geo look lovely but GB/GBC/GBA look awful unless you have them postage stamp size at original-res. Vita displays all these systems exquisitely (as well as perfect PSP and PS1). I saw multiple issues in PS1 — the rg350's main selling point. For instance Symphony of the Night and other PS1 games originally had sections running double the resolution of this little machine, so text in parts of Symphony of the Night where crushed and missing pixels - so text is almost unreadable. Also the dinguxOS UI is a hot mess no-matter what theme you choose.
Other than it's size and some of the physical controls (D-pad is an uncomfortable texture imo), I thought it was a Piece of junk, and all these current crop of handhelds have that ultra-low resolution screen. I know these devices are getting a lot of cred and attention on youtube – but I'm telling you, with first hand experience – they don't deserve the love.
Sending it back and getting a refund was such a relive when I realised my vita could do it all 10x better. Sorry.
I also have a RG300 in my draw - doing nothing cos I'm stuck with that one.
@brunojenso Thanks! Yeah, Nintendo has dropped their quality. Malfunctions were unheard of back in the day.
@brunojenso Ah ! Good to know that there are others Vita lovers here ^^
I personnaly treasure mine for its retro hability. I think it's really the best way to play PS1 games today. The picture of any PS1 game is just impossible to watch today on a 4K display. But on this little and gorgeous screen, it's just a joy.
And I'm a huge fan of the Nintendo Online service on Switch : a real SNES in my pocket, it's a child's dream !
@Bobobiwan Totally. There is room in my heart for 2 perfect portables (three actually – still playing AC New Leaf on my 3DS right now – and played some DKC Returns 3D on it last night).
NSO is a joy and will only get better. Especially playing those SNES Super FX/2 games on a portable without a single hiccup and on a HD screen that can output pixel-perfection is a Joy.
Great point about perfect PS1 too. Put something like Soul Reaver on it and it blows me away how it still holds up. Plus everyone forgets the Vita has an amazing and diverse catalog of it's own (and PSP) – many that are only playable portably on Vita and that would appeal to Nintendo fanboys - like Tearaway, Fez, LittleBigPlanet(Vita), The Unfinished Swan, New 'n Tasty, Sound Shapes, Tetris Ultimate, Gravity Rush, Joe Danger, Sly Cooper, Hohokum, Spelunky... I could go on. And most of those will not come to Switch.
I'd urge any portable-only gamers to grab on while they still can.
@damo sorry for stooging you with the wrong code last time. They're clearing more DS games at Argos - Captain Toad is £7.99 with no code required https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8146911
