Capcom's blue bomber Mega Man might not be the most popular video game mascot nowadays, but he's still got a full-time gig. In more recent years we've seen the release of Mega Man 11, multiple Mega Man collections and last year he even got a new animated show called Mega Man: Fully Charged.
With a lot of the classic Mega Man games being revived at the moment, like the delayed Zero/ZX Legacy Collection, it has got fans wondering if there might ever be a new entry released in the Mega Man Battle Network series (also known in Japan as Rockman.EXE).
During an interview with Tokyo TV recently, this exact question was asked to the Capcom developers Masakazu Eguchi and Kazuhiro Tsuchiya. Here's what they had to say (thanks for the translation, Rockman Corner):
Tsuchiya: Each series has its own fans, and I’ve heard a lot of voices asking for sequels. There’s no rule that says “we’re not going to make any sequels of this game”. However, we're are proud of Rockman EXE being top contents back in the day, and shallow ideas aren’t the answer to the avid voices. To make a sequel, we’d need careful ideas and preparations, the trends of the age, and whether the market is ripe for it… We need all of these factors to be perfectly on our side
Eguchi: There are some parts that were due to coincidences, but since we’re being told that “you predicted the future”, these games did satisfy expectations. Overcoming those components is no easy task. We must overcome our imagination as we meet up with the expectations. If conditions for us to be so confident happen, then there might be a chance
So, the good news is they are at least open to the idea of more games in this particular Mega Man series. That doesn't mean they'll necessarily churn out a sequel just to satisfy "avid" voices.
How about yourself, though? Would you like to see more of these games? Have you played the previous entries in this series? Comment down below.

Well, do they want money, because they would get my money.
Speaking seriously, it's cool that they want to wait and have good ideas first.
They also need to consider if we need anymore Battle Network
Release a collection of them on Switch. That'll satisfy me enough.
I'd love a new Battle Network game and wouldn't even be against a new Star Force entry either; the latter series was a bit weaker but still quite fun IMO.
Heck, I'd be okay with collections of both on the Switch.
When I saw these classics come out left right and centre I started getting hopeful that Battle Network would get ported. I am stil hopeful that it would.
My thoughts on the matter is port the classics and see how they sell. With Battle Network indie games popping up recently I think there is a hint that there is want for it. Release the Battle Network classics, see how they sell and you will have your amswer
gives us a collection of
BN 1-3 plus Battle Chip Challenege
wasn't there a DS remake of the 1st game in Japan?
@Porky And if that sells well enough, it might be a good indication to make a new game.
I have a friend who really liked these games and I remember being interested in them, but as a kid I only got a new game ever 4-6 months and these games were never quite high enough on my wish list. A lot like the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. I'd be interested in a collection on Switch.
Part of me is just nostalgic for that GBA era too. My dream would be GBA era game collections start getting ported to Switch left and right.
I absolutely loved the Battle Network games as a kid. Back then I dreamed of an MMO on the GBA; create your own Net Navi, giant lobbies with tons of players running around, PVE and PVP, etc.
I will be first in line for a Battle Network collection on Switch, and Capcom seriously needs to make a sequel, or even a reboot with MMO elements.
Also just in my personal opinion, Megaman.EXE is the best designed MM.
I would play it. And a Battle Network Collection would rock as well.
seems silly to me since they were able to release those games within less of a year of each other, i'm not against that part i was just under the impression those games were easy to make, recycled sprites, not much animation, simple maps. i'd totally get a collection... how gnarly would it be if they let them connect online for vs with abilities from each game?
starforce was cool too, skipped the 2nd 1 but the stories got me choked up and i liked how you could use swords easier, though you couldn't bring lots of attacks each turn like BN.
the real question is how good would the story be though.
YEEEEEEES!! Wonder if it would be a reboot or a continuation? Either way, Battle Network needs some love
They first need to nail mega man in the 21 century. I at least feel mega man 11 didn’t do that. The problem is Capcom needs to set aside more resources to classic series like this. Less constants and let their devs really dig deep with a mega man revival
Here is idea for Capcom who about do a remake Rockman EXE Phantom of Network and Rockman EXE Legend of Network for the Nintendo Switch. Also not related to Mega Man Battle Network I made a custom Mega Man Legends story set between Legends 1 and 2. It's called Mega Man Legends: Ryship Island Chronicles the story is based off cell phone game Rockman DASH Big 5 Island Adventure! I recommend anyone to check out my fanmade story: http://mmls.proboards.com/thread/6153/5-island-adventures-remake
I hope someone will use my story concept to be use for a fangame one day.
First they need to either make a Battle Network Collection or remake the first six Battle Network RPGs then make a sequel that follow that. Also Capcom still waiting on that Mega Man Legends 3 game, better bring that out soon.
Love to see an collection of the first 6 games being ported to switch . Same with the starforce games. As for an new game I would say bring it
Only played the first one on Wii U virtual console, but really enjoyed it. If they made a collection I would most likely buy it.
I played the first two back in the day, and enjoyed them. I would purchase Battle Network Legacy Collections if they released them.
Since the games are pretty lenghty, I could see them doing 2 collections.
MMBN Legacy Collection 1:
MMBN
MMBN2
MMBN3
Mega Man: Network Transmission (the Gamecube game that takes place between Battle Network 1 and 2.)
MMBN Legacy Collection 2:
Mega Man: Battle Chip Challenge
MMBN4
MMBN5
MMBN6
The thing about Mega Man Battle Network is that it was a huge media franchise at the time.
Many people only knew the games, but there was an anime series, a manga series, and a whole line of toys and merchandise.
That period has passed and they wouldn't be able to launch it as a media franchise again, but they can still sell the games to the fans of those games.
I suspect that they've kept the source code to all of the GBA games safe and sound, as the latest release in the series, Rockman Operate Shooting Star, was an enhanced release of the original 2001 GBA title, exclusively in Japan on the DS in 2009.
Similar to how the Mega Man Zero series got a collection release on the DS, and will be getting a multi-platform collection release very soon.
Point is, they have the source code, and could use this to produce a collection of the six main games with enhancements like larger screen resolution per title, as it was something they were able to do for the DS releases of BN1 and BN5.
Capcom can just stick this and every game they ever plan on releasing up their back sides and sit on it.
Everything they dribble onto the Switch is a lazy old port.
Take Devil May Cry collection... their actually crap games, have any of you tried to play them? They have not aged well at all and i certainly do not trust them to fix that.
No new Monster hunter game for the Switch... yeah im done supporting this joke of a company.
@ancientlii and they were running out of steam after the third game. If they want to make a comeback it should be a big one, not just another entry to the series.
@Razer I was planning to buy DMC1, is it really that bad of a port? I don't mind the lack of new content but performance wise I expected it to run well.
@Ulysses I'm hurt... What about the OG Mega Man X or Zero.
I would have even said:* Proto Man.EXE*!
"To make a sequel, we’d need careful ideas and preparations, the trends of the age, and whether the market is ripe for it…"
So... "preparations" includes a Battle Network Legacy Collection, right?
As a child, I loved MMBN III to death. Th gameplay was beyond remarkable. I always imagined that this would translate well to a real netnavi once those become possible. With smartphones, these really could become a reality. I'm still waiting for it to happen.
Yes! By all do respect please make a new MegaMan Battle Network game for the Switch. Thank you for this.
So let's see. This will round up and help complete my games for my super gba. I'm getting Kirby Star Allies Ninjala and this when they finish making it and releasing it. But please release a physical copy of it?
Release a collection or two on Switch, of all Battle Networks and Star Force games, then make the sequel! Make it an interquel between BN and Star Force about Lan's kid. This is all I want in life. <3
@Chatnin
It really is remarkable how prescient Battle Network's core concepts were for the near future. Dedicated AI chips from Apple/Huawei/Samsung are paving the way for personal AI assistants reminiscent of NetNavi's and even the movie Her.
I also loved BN3 to death, as well as Zero 2 and ZX, so I'll be first in line for the collections on Switch.
Fingers crossed that success of these ports/remasters renew Capcom's interest in restarting development on Megaman Legends 3.
I always wanted a sequel for Megaman X: Command Mission, that was a great turn-based RPG with a surprisingly good story.
@T7Hokage017 Do you agree that the fetch quests were a pain? I love the battles but the quests were simple and repetitive.
I personally never cared for the series. I played 3 on GBA and found it to be rather dull. I did enjoy Battle Network Transmission which I don't consider to be a true Battle Network game.
@T7Hokage017 Yeah, the costume changes were way ahead of Mega Man 11.
How about we start things with an HD collection for and see how sales do?
So it's up in the air. That's not a no or a yes. I'm sure Battlenetwork fans would be quite happy to get one though.
HUGE MEGAMAN BN FAN AND WOULD LOVE A LEGACY EDITION!!!! And I got ideas for Capcom if they are stuck on any ideas!!!!
Tbh, if only they would bring the cross fusion concept if they make a new megaman battle network game that would be cool. Like the same way they did with starforce? You can actually play as lan cross fused defeting materialized viruses. It would be cool.
A great way to bring Mega Man EXE into the new generation while also pleasing long time fans would be an actual MMO of Battle Network.
I just want to leave this comment for brainstorming. Would a Pokemon Go style Megaman.EXE game be an option?
