EA has withdrawn the former Dutch football star Marco van Basten from FIFA 20 after he said “Sieg Heil” during an interview with German football coach Frank Wormuth of Heracles.
Starring in the game as a 'Legendary Player', van Basten has since apologised for his words, saying that he was trying to “ridicule” the language skills of Wormuth.
“Sieg Heil” is “hail victory” in German, but is most known as being a Nazi salute.
https://twitter.com/TijaniGoulletAD/status/1198336456491765763
EA has removed Marco van Basten ICON items from being available in packs, SBC's and FUT Draft "until further notice" and has issued the following statement on the matter:
We are aware of the recent comments made by Marco van Basten. We have an expectation that our commitment to equality and diversity is upheld across our game.
Fox, which runs the network upon which the footage was broadcast, has suspended van Basten for one week, with his salary being donated to the Netherlands Institute of War Documentation.
During a career which delivered 300 goals, van Basten played for Ajax and A.C. Milan, as well as the Dutch national team – England fans may remember his hat-trick against them at Euro 1988. He has since been employed as manager for teams such as Ajax and Heerenveen, as well as the Netherlands national side.

On one hand, I think it's silly people are upset over this.
On the other hand, he should have known he couldn't say that in today's current times and not expect people getting angry.
I wonder if they even had a rule against that before or if they just kinda reacted.
Yep. Bit of a daft thing to do really.
@Kalmaro There's always unwritten rules about this. People are just going to overreact.
He has been ridiculed all over the netherlands for the past week now, deservingly so. It came out if nowhere and while our country is really quick to defend offensive jokes this “joke” wasn’t defended by anyone.
Dumb thing to say, although it's a bit of an overreaction. However, the garbage content that is pewdiepie made some Nazi jokes, and he's still #1 on YouTube years later.
Go figure... 🙄
This sounds like a complete non-issue to me. Unless of course he did the salute with the phrase, then we would have a problem. Not being in FIFA 20 sounds like a plus as well.
@Emob That's probably what it is, it's a shame too. No free speech over there, I guess.
Then again, if they had a rule against what he said then he deserved the punishment, if he signed up for it.
@Kalmaro
Free speech is not the same as "say what you want with no consequence" .
Pathetic reaction by EA and everyone else who's faux offended on someone else's behalf.
Imagine losing the moral high ground to both EA and Fox. Talk about embarrassing. I've been doubtful of people who say these things as supposed jokes ever since Pewdiepie's "jokes," but hopefully a joke is all this was.
I’m not offended, it’s just stupid to associate someone with Nazi Germany because of their language ability. Maybe it just slipped out, but it’s an incredibly dumb and close-minded association.
@SBandy No one said there shouldn't be any consequences. You shouldn't have to face consequences for stuff that isn't hurting anyone though.
It's not like he called for violence or said anything to get people hurt.
You can't say anything without offending someone.
At least this time it's someone getting punished for something they did do rather than something that someone said they did sometime before. This is progress!
In this case, on one hand, society as a whole, worldwide, apparently really does need to grow up and stop going into fits every time they don't like what someone else says or believes. Tearing someone down for something they said spur of the moment as a distasteful joke due to a poor sense of humor is unnecessary and society is getting worse at searching for people to judge and attack to make everyone feel better about themselves.
On the other hand, making Nazi references for the admitted purpose of ridiculing and belittling someone in public, and especially in the context of an international competition against someone representing the German flag indicates a generally uncivil jerk who's thinking of little beyond himself. Society shouldn't be going crazy over every ill tempered person in the world, but at the same time, even if it weren't a Nazi reference, the ethics police really needed to club this clown with a compassion baton either way.
@Kalmaro
it follows hot on the heels of several racist choirs aimed at colored players, during several matches of Dutch division football.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/50506276
This is not an isolated incident, where he get told off for making an off color "joke".
He made a bad "joke" at a very very very very poor time, when everybody was on edge already.
Probably figuring he could get away with it or that the microphone wouldnt pick it up.
The biggest issue is that he is a role model.
And he makes a "joke" like this and thinks he can get away with it by saying, "Just kidding."
Other people will think it's okay too.
Also don't get me wrong ,I am not excusing or explaining anything or anybody
I just want to give the context what's going on here in the Netherlands.
This monster belongs in jail. Honestly, I can not support this game any longer, just his past association with it and now knowing the depth of his hatred, bigotry, intolerance and insanity, it taints the entire thing. As I type this, I am literally shaking. I am that upset. I don't know how this Marco man thinks Nazis are jokes.
[Removed] Mods: there is absolutely no reason to bring the POTUS into this discussion.
@Kalmaro
He made reference to a German man using a term associated with Nazi Germany on live television.
For stupidity alone the one week suspension seems a fair punishment.
What EA have decided to do seems a tad excessive but it is their product and they can do as they wish.
@Patron never fight hatred with hatred
@KitsuneNight @SBandy Well then he's even dumber than I thought, he really should have known better than to do that. Of course people were going to explode. I don't think they should have suspended him though unless he actually broke a rule.
@Patron The fact that you actually believe the leader of the US is a Nazi is kinda sad. That and you believe someone should be jailed for being unfunny.
I hope you're just joking and it's going over my head.
Well this escalated quickly, let me just get me popcorn!
@Kalmaro
Yup he should have known better.
And people exploded and then some.
@Kalmaro
I would be pretty sure he breached Fox Sports and EA's policy on not saying things that could be considered offensive. If I started saying that phrase in work I wouldn't last long.
"he said “Sieg Heil” during an interview"
No he didn't. He said it after an interview when he thought he was off air.
Still a bit naughty of course.
It wasn't particularly funny, but it's not a big deal. My grandfather was a Canadian WW2 vet and we used to make Nazi jokes all the time.
@Patron They have a helpline now for people with Donald Trump addictions. You should check it out. Sounds like it could help you.
"...saying that he was trying to “ridicule” the language skills of Wormuth."
This part is not correct. He tried to ridicule the interviewer Hans Kraay Jr (native Dutch) for his poor language skills in German. It doesn't absolve him from being wrong either way. Poor man's comedy right here
Y'all really need to realize that @Patron is a parody account meant to mock a supposed overreactive left. It's pretty cut and dried satire. Your willingness to jump at his throat without applying any critical thinking makes it clear that you're the real snowflakes here.
Yes, he did it, and yes, it was a bad joke and very unprofessional, but he said sorry on multiple occasions now and said multiple times he shouldn’t have said that at all. What should he do before we forgive him, should he be tortured or publicly hurt or anything else before his sorry gets accepted? Or will something like charity work help him cleanse his name again? I honestly don’t know what he can do Guess it’s popular for people to hate the same things these days.
Funny how EA now has the back of a lot of people. How easily opinions can shift...
Dunno what it’s like in other parts of the world but in Europe, there’s things you just don’t do. Nazi ‘jokes’ are one of them. Free speech has absolutely nothing to do with it, he acted like an idiot and is suffering the consequences.
@SBandy "Fox Sports and EA's policy on not saying things that could be considered offensive."
That's absurd though, people can be offended by anything these days. That's like saying hatespeech is illegal when hate-speech can be whatever you want.
@kenyowa Poe's Law. You may want to familiarize yourself with it before you start throwing insults.
@Kalmaro
It isn't absurd in the slightest when it is a well known term associated with Nazi Germany.
The western world is voluntarily burning all of its freedoms. What is happening?
No-one should ever get punished for telling a bad joke. The punishment should be that everyone thinks you're a prat. That's all.
@SBandy It's just the fact that there's a rule basically saying "don't offend anyone"
That's impossible when people can be offended by anything. Milk is even offensive to some people.
@Kalmaro
Do you have a job? Is there diversity training?
@SBandy No, I don't work at Starbucks or Riot Games. Diversity training is ridiculous.
One more good reason to skip Fifa
@Kalmaro
OK, this explains a lot, you are an idiot.
@Kalmaro Lol.dude, you obviously lack some knowledge about European and German his! Not hurting anybody? Is he making a joke with a Nazi reference, a regime which killed several million people just for their cause. There are still people alive from that era, which can be insulted by this joke! It's not funny and it never will be! Luckily, the people in Europe are a little more sensitive and understand this. We live a culture of remembrance, where we try to make the old, current and new generation to remember, what a whole nation was able to pull of! Not to make them responsible for past sins, but to make sure, something awful like this will never happen again. Therefore Nazi jokes are never funny, it doesn't matter what Americans think.
If you want to argue about law: There are laws at least in Germany which forbid to use Nazi Symbols, the Hitler Gruß or phrases like "Sieg Heil" and "Heil Hitler". Not sure about Netherlands. What they will have are rules of diversity. Especially companies related to public audience's like TV stations will not tolerate any actions against diversity and actions that break their code of conduct.
Like someone already said, Free Speech and say what you want is not the same!
@mazzel Nothing you said has actually proved that what he said hurt anyone. Words don't have that kind of power.
Now if he called for attacks on people or said something in order to cause a panic and lead to people getting hurt... I can understand.
I wasn't away of the laws you mentioned though, they are pretty strict over there. If those are the rules where he's at them, by all means, he knew what he was doing and he broke the rules. I don't agree with said rules but rules are rules.
@SBandy Usually, when people jump to insults, it's a sign that they don't have anything to back up what they are saying. I'm going to assume I've made my point and leave it at that.
@Kalmaro
You made your point alright.....that you are uneducated and don't know what you are talking about.
Poor Van Basten. He said something stupid and now gets destroyed by the PC police. It was a joke and I understand the reaction of Fox. He obviously apologized 100 times already.
EA just being EA again. I rather play PES anyway.
@kenyowa Shocked that users on here can't figure it out, Patron's just having a ball.
"Free Speech and say what you want is not the same!"
You might as well be saying any of these:
2 + 2 = 5
War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
Orwell wouldn't have been able to write classics like 1984 or Animal Farm for fear of offending the advocates for our dear so-called allies at the time, the Soviet Union (which killed FAR more people than the Nazis ever did; the only difference was that the Nazis were a little bit more creative). There were even publishers that tried to discredit the effort Orwell made in his satire as they refused to publish Animal Farm. (Read the Appendices to Animal Farm as they're fascinating reads because it could easily apply today. As Orwell brilliantly said, "Make a habit of imprisoning Fascists without trial, and perhaps the process won't stop at Fascists.")
It's all or nothing, mensch. Being able to say something that may offend people is something that should be self-regulated, not enforced by the self-righteous busybodies that seem to infest today's society. (For a good cross-reference, check out Twitter sometime and witness the cancer.)
@Kalmaro
Oh, you are very much mistaken there.
Words DO have that power and then some.
Ok. Basically an employer saying “Yeah, that kinda language isn’t cool here, and you’re acting in poor judgment not realizing that”. Not really anything more to discuss.
These comments look like a twitter feed. Can we just get back to gaming ?
@ShoryukenKid
Or honoring the passing of human being ?

It's amazing what will outrage people these days. Maybe it was always outrageous and people didn't react this way because they were afraid if being called whiners, but often I wonder if people lately feel like they're obligated to be offended.
@Iacobus That's what happened here: self regulation! And that's good! The reaction shows, that there are plenty of people who understand exactly what he said and punish him for that. If you read his excuse, which is translated wrong here, you also can see, that he is not understanding what the mistake was. He just said, I made the joke at the wrong time in the wrong environment. He doesn't understand that this is a joke that never is funny.
@DrDaisy It's good that people are still outraged by this! Never forget what happened and make sure it never happens again!
@Kalmaro I think neither you nor me are in a position to decide if these words hurt anybody or have the power to do so. The reaction shows, that a lot of people disagree with his points of view and that's a good thing!
@KitsuneNight No one said they don't have "power"
What they don't have is the ability to physically hurt you. You can still use words for evil like calling for harm on other people. This is not one of those cases.
Man says something stupid. Gets fired. World keeps turning.
@mazzel No, I'm in a position because the fact is, words do not hurt you. You can absolutely use words to lead to people being hurt, like calls to violence or screaming "fire" in a theater in order to make people panic...
But words do not hurt people. There's no evidence that they do what people are saying they can do.
@Kalmaro
You are talking absolute rubbish.
Ever read reports of kids killing themsleves because of the abuse they have recieved either through written or verbal words?
Words can hurt someone mentally which then affects them pyhsically.
@Kalmaro If one of my white co-workers takes it upon themselves to call me or use the term nigga in any sort of context in the work place, I sure as heck hope my boss does something about it (And yes, I am the only person of color in my staff).
Also, ask people who have suffered emotional abuse in any respect if words don't hurt. The idea they can't is just flat out assanine and ridiculous
@Kalmaro What's your point? That you can say what ever you want to who ever you want without any consequences because "words don't hurt anybody physically"? What do you try to prove here?
@mazzel I'm not really trying to prove anything, it's already been proven. Other people seem to have it in their head that words can hurt you somehow. That takes all responsibility from the individual though. You, determine how you react to words.
@UmbreonsPapa If one of my white co-workers used that term, I'd ask them to stop as it's against company policy and I find the term offensive. I would not stop them because it 'hurt' me because it didn't. It's just a word.
@SBandy If someone hurts themselves because of something someone else says, that's on them. No one made them do anything. Obviously, the person saying something has some responsibility but they did not actually do anything to the other person.
Even how you react to words is up to you. Words do not physically hurt you and you determine how they affect you mentally.
@Kalmaro
You truly are one of the most blinkered, dumb people I have come across.
You are woefully ill-equipped to deal with the real world once that little bubble you are in bursts.
Bloody hell you are thick lol.
@Kalmaro Your problem is, that in your opinion, only physical violence is bad. You are quite obsessed with that opinion. If you ever feel mental pain because of words or actions against you, you will understand. I hope that you are just too young and naive to understand.
@mazzel That is demonstrably false. I have said repeatedly that calls to violence and spreading panic with words are both bad and we should definitely try to stop that.
I don't believe we should stop people saying mean things just because someone might get their feelings hurt, because people can get their feelings hurt over anything.
Look above, @SBandy is popping off and insulting me again. Should I call in a mod because they are being mean? Should I try to have them banned because my feelings are hurt? (They aren't but whatever).
It is impossible to keep from offending people all the time.
@Kalmaro
You said: "It is impossible to keep from offending people all the time."
Offensive definition: "causing someone to feel resentful, upset, or annoyed."
You are just confirming words can hurt someone.
@SBandy No I didn't, unless you are saying that hurting someone just means offending them.
I've said that several times though that words can offend people. What they can't do is physically harm you. Especially when you are responsible for how you react to what someone says.
@Kalmaro
It is like talking to a dumb brick wall.
The guy made a bad joke at a wrong time. Said sorry on multiple occasions and admitted its fault. There are plenty of other examples of professional players who are assosiated with racism worse than this action, but they are still in the game. EA sees a nice way to make a statement and get some publicity in the process
@SBandy Yes, but I try not to say that out loud so I don't offend you. I'm nice like that.
@Kalmaro
Nothing you say could offend me bud.
But I thought you advocated people saying what they want when they want?
@SBandy I am, provided you I don't call for violence or seek to get people hurt by causing confusion, like the fire in a theater thing.
Anything else is fair game.
@Kalmaro
Well muppet, I would say it has been fun talking to you but I have just been dismayed at how stupid a person can be.
Stay away from sharp objects.
@SBandy Ha, well I hope you have a wonderful evening. It's a shame we can't see eye to eye on this.
@Kalmaro Well there you go, you won!
People are not really offended, they are only offended for other people whom they think are offended, but are not...
@Patron Please tell me you’re joking and aren’t actually sitting there shaking over this.
@Spanjard Yep, what a time to be alive...
@Spanjard
How did they "win" exactly? By sticking their fingers in their ears, shouting "lalalala" and not actually listening accepting facts?
If you actually read the comments it is not about people being offended on other peoples behalfs it is about how words can be offensive and words can cause hurt. Something Kalmaro just can't understand for some reason.
@Kalmaro You still underestimate words by saying "as long as I don't hurt you physically or start an action which causes direct harm by using words, it's ok to say everything!".
For me, spreading hatred and/or disrespect is as worse as physical violence or causing harm by using words. Why? Because if we allow this kind of jokes without consequences, the people start to forget how serious the situation was during WW2. And this openth the path for this kind of people again. Slowly, but steady. And in long-term, you have the violence again, maybe in a different way then what the Nazis did, but it will.come back.
Also saying that how a person reacts to words is just on that person themselves isn't thought trough. You are implying that everyone has full control abojt their emotions and environment, which is just false. People who hot abused in whatever way and have memories linkes to actions and words will not be able to stop their emotions. So if you, for example, survived a concentration camp in Germany and heard the phrase "Sieg Heil!" over and over again, you seriously think it's the survivors own fault if they are hurt in any way by a joke like this? Pathetic!
@Spanjard I don't thing either SBandy or anyone else is really offended by his words. We don't know h, he is just a random guy on a random website. Some people just defend some social standards here and fight for a good and healthy society, that's all. He has his opinion, which is very wrong in many aspects (from my point of view). But he will not change it, because for him, we are also just random dudes on a random website. Welcome to the internet
@mazzel "For me, spreading hatred and/or disrespect is as worse as physical violence or causing harm by using words. Why? Because if we allow this kind of jokes without consequences, the people start to forget how serious the situation was during WW2."
I understand what you are saying, I just don't agree with you. Jokes are not violence, nor is there any proof of a link between jokes and violence that I'm aware of.
" You are implying that everyone has full control abojt their emotions and environment, which is just false."
You can control your emotions and how you react to things, that's what's expected of everyone. If no one was able to control how they behaved, society wouldn't be able to exist.
@mazzel True! But Kalmaro is also fighting the good fight. As long as we can stay civil I see no problem in disagreeing.
@Spanjard
The good fight of not understanding how words can affect mental health?
Look at all those black footballers in tears on pitches around Europe this season for being racially abused by scum. According to Kalmaro they should just get over it and not be affected by it.
Is that the good fight?
@HeavyArmsSS
It would be great if you crawled back into the hole you came from.
@SBandy Racially abused how? Was it just verbal abuse or...?
Ironically, you've been very abusive in the way you've been talking to me. I could play the race card now but that would be pretty silly.
@Kalmaro
I have been insulting you yes but you would have to point out to me where I have used any racial abuse. Your lack of understanding on this point explains a lot.
To answer your question, the scum have been making monkey noises and using other language to describe the black players I will not repeat.
I could understand this overreaction if it happened in Germany, but here in the Netherlands it is just disappointing.
I knew he was screwed the moment I heard him say it live, because such is the PC world we live in these days. And so did he, because his stale face in the minutes after this happened was hilarious.
I mean it's literally just an unfunny edgy joke and nothing more. But whatever... Guess people gotta feel hurt again and QQ owwie mama he say bad word QQ ouch ouch weeeeh QQ.
@SBandy Insults are insults. Are you saying that verbal abuse is okay as long as it's not racially charged?
As for the players, that's horrible what happened to them. Not much else to say about that. I don't think it's worth crying over but I may just have a ticket skin than most. I haven't had anyone make money noises at me in real life.
I'd probably shrug it off though.
@Kalmaro
No insults are not OK, doesn't mean I won't use it when required.
It is still not the same as racist abuse which is what van Basten "joke" could be considered because of its conotations which he would have been well aware of.
You appear to lack empathy. That isn't the same as being offended on someone elses behalf but it is understanding why they would be affected as they are.
An overreaction but will they add another legends player to make up for it?
People offended could just not use him. I don't follow football but is he enough of a legend that people would use him all the time? That's taking value out of the game for no reason for some players.
@SBandy And when, exactly, would you say that you are required to insult me, despite also believing that insults are not okay?
@Kalmaro
When you are being a muppet as you have been with your views in this article. Something again that according to you I am perfectly entitled to do and your mental well being will just accept.
@SBandy So, in other words, it's fine to insult people when you don't agree with them. As long as it's not a racial slur.
@Kalmaro
Why are you asking me? You are the self proclaimed expert on the subject.
According to you we can all say what we want racial slur or otherwise, as long as it is not encouraging violence, because mere words do not hurt and if people are hurt or offended by them that is their own fault as they choose to be hurt or offended by them when they could simply choose not to be. That is your logic.
I think you shouldn't insult peope for no reason but I am not perfect and sometimes it is called for. Like if I said you clearly weren't the sharpest tool in the shed and your views are blinkered, short sighted and just stupid.....but you are OK with me saying that so it is all good.
@SBandy I'm not really concerned with what you call me, I'm just seeing if your own views hold up.
Its just odd because on one hand you're saying we shouldn't say hurtful things, but on the other hand you don't mind attacking me. I just don't see how you rationalize that.
Again, you're not offending me at all, I don't even know you.
I swear we are creating a type of social prison. Simply say something on a whim that a certain portion of people don’t like, and your life is completely destroyed forever because people will broadcast it all over the internet, and use it as a platform to tear the person down in order to look virtuous in front of their friends and mutuals.
@Dezzy : The West has gone absolutely bat-poo bonkers.
And the mainstream media relentlessly erects mountains out of even the most inconsequential of molehills to the detriment of our collective welfare and liberty. The constant tightening of the noose on speech, including even the most innocuous and commonsense of things, is how the masses are being brainwashed. Unfortunately, too many people lack the critical thinking skills (or ability?) to be able to perceive anything beyond their myopic worldview, and one needs to look no further than those who fling insults when their fallacious points are challenged rather than having a sensible and considered discussion.
I was born in the West and thought I would die in the West, but with each passing day, I suspect that my future may be eastbound. I'd love to go to Japan, but they are not receptive to migrants, and I don't think it would be worthwhile to forfeit my dual-citizenship to become a Japanese citizen. Hopefully their stance may change someday (ideally while I'm still alive and kicking ) as the future is looking dimmer by the day.
@mazzel 20 years ago, I probably would have agreed with you wholeheartedly, but eventually I got sick of this ongoing trend of determination to be outraged by everything that could possibly be interpreted as offensive and the demands that everyone feel the same way.
For the record, I think the Holocaust was pure evil, that it should be taken very seriously, and that we ensure it never happens again.
@UmbreonsPapa I hate that word no matter who says it.
It's a joke. The guy apoligised. Nothing to see here. EA don't need to remove him. Again, it's a joke.
@Kalmaro "You can control your emotions and how you react to things, that's what's expected of everyone. If no one was able to control how they behaved, society wouldn't be able to exist."
That's the part we disagree, it all comes done to that! I never said "no one was able to control how to behave", that's an important difference to my example above! Sure, the society we have today is partly build because of strong characters who can control their emotions etc. But a big part of the society can't or at least cannot completely. Therefore we have some unwritten rules about what to say and how to behave. And coming back to the topic: As a dutch football player on TV, a person of public interest, a role model also for kids, saying a Nazi joke to a German guys, just shows how simple minded this guy is. Actually, Fox and EA should wait for a few days and see if he realizes his mistake by himself. If not, fire fim. He only apologized because he has to, not because he understands his actions. You can see this by reading his apologies...
@DrDaisy I agree that we are in a time where people tend to react too strong in both directions. It's a typical 0 or 1 discussion going on very often. Anyway, I think there are exceptions to make where society should "chill a littlr and relax". Everything holocaust or Nazi related is one of these exceptions. Why? Becar if this kind of behavior is accepted by society again, it's the first tiny step toake it possible to repeat history.
@mazzel You shouldn't punish someone because of an unwritten rule. That doesn't make sense. If you did nothing wrong, then there's no reason to be punished.
If a large portion of our population can't fully control thier emotions then we have a massive problem. Being able to control yourself is part of being mature.
"Becar if this kind of behavior is accepted by society again, it's the first tiny step toake it possible to repeat history."
I don't think this has ever been proven anywhere.
@mazzel If he actually was making a Nazi joke, then he deserves to be negatively criticized for it. I didn't read his apology (yet) so I don't know what he actually meant by it. If “Sieg Heil” is literally “hail victory” in German, that doesn't necessarily make it a Nazi reference. Yeah, it was popularized by terrible people, but to declare it offensive in any context because of that simply gives hateful people power over words. I noticed the same thing with the 👌 lately after people on the far right started using it as a symbol for white power.
I'll understand if you feel like your sort of being ganged up on by this point, but hopefully you'll understand I'm not trying to give you some kind of "you're just plain wrong" lecture. I think you have a point. I just don't entirely agree with it.
@Kalmaro
Interesting you use the word "attacking" which implies my words are causing you harm.
My view has always been that words can cause harm mentally and therefore physically, and is not a nice thing to do but you don't seem to be able to comprehend this.
But I also never said I didn't do it. And at least I can know the damage it can cause, the fact that you don't is.......worrying.
@imananjidesuka
No cause no one cares about you.
@Kalmaro "I don't think this has ever been proven anywhere."
And I hope it never will! Do we need to make the same mistakes several times before we understand?
@DrDaisy No one used this reference phrase before or after. Right now, it's exclusive Nazi language also known in other countries. So at least in Europe, there is no way you can use this phrase "by accident". This article just translated it to let the people know the meaning of the words. The meaning actually was, to say "Victory for Germany" and "Heil Hitler" in one short phrase. It was even some kind of law at that time to use it. Long story short: It's a Nazi exclusive phrase
@mazzel Obviously, I don't want us making the same mistakes. Keeping people from making jokes because we think it might cause those mistakes is odd though. There's no proof that can happen.
@SBandy I use the word attacking because you are trying to harm me, not because your words can actually hurt me. You're reading too much into this. Mental and physical are not the same and I'm not aware of any study showing how words cause physical harm.
I will agree that someone can let themselves be affected by words and harm themselves but that's on them.
@Kalmaro
Let's agree to disagree.
Life is too short to keep this back and forth going.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
@SBandy You too.
@imananjidesuka
👍
Actions were made in poor taste.
That said, it astounds me people get so upset over the smallest things.
@JaxonH For some people, it's not a small thing, but for the most part, I agree.
@HeavyArmsSS Naah, either this or that, but not combined. You would have ended up in a camp if you said it like this at that time. Probably...
