Raw Fury's West of Dead got announced last night during Microsoft's X019 event, but guess what – it's coming to Switch too.
A twin-stick shooter set in a procedurally-generated, monster-filled version of the Wild West, West of Dead showcases the vocal talents of Ron Perlman, who is perhaps most famous for playing the lead character in the two good Hellboy movies.
Here's some official info:
A place of gun smoke and darkness, sin and damnation, wendigos and witches. A shifting, chaotic world that takes its form from the memories, culture or beliefs of the souls who pass through. When a dead man awakens with only the memory of a figure in black, he sets into motion a chain of events that have truly mythic consequences.
Step into the boots of the dead man William Mason (voiced by Ron Perlman) and descend into the grim and gritty world of Purgatory in this fast-paced twin-stick shooter that’ll put your skills to test. Dodge behind cover as you try to outgun your enemies in the unknown procedurally generated hunting grounds. The Wild West has never been this dark.
As you can see from the footage, this is looking pretty special. It's coming next year.

Oooh, it looks decent.
I disagree with Ron Pearlman being best known for Hellboy (you can't even see his face), I'd go with Clay from Sons Of Anarchy as that's the first thing I think of.
Looks cool enough, but why is Ghost rider and Jonah hex's love child stuck in the wild west voiced by hell boy
When I think Ron Perlman, I think Slade and The Lich.
@jump i can’t believe he’s not known as Ron Perlman AS made famous by “The City of Lost Children.”
Me gusta, imma buy dis. Unless it’s like... buggy and broken.
Love the art style, giving me graphic novel or sim city vibes. Not normally my type of game but there’s enough here to have me at least curious to give it a try
Fitting with Perlman, seeing how the art direction is a straight copy of Hellboy's creator, Mike Mignola's, style.
Unless they actually also had Mignola involved? Stanger things have happened, Though I'm pretty sure Raw Fury would boast about it, if that was the case. As it stands, it's a pretty solid imitation, however!
@Pod I was thinking the same thing but he's been busy working on the new Hellboy reboot and the new The Crooked Man comic. Mignola's style has been influential to a lot of people so I'm not surprised people are drawing similarly to it.
I thought twin stick shooters were illegal???
@jump
Me neither. Darkest Dungeon was another game that clearly borrowed from his legacy.
A bit on-the-nose how the title card here sports such a degree of Mignola-ism, and then they have Perlman on. No coincidences.
This looks cool, I might try it. But I would prefer a less supernatural, more "real world" old west twin stick shooter set outdoors in daylight, deserts, towns, canyons etc. Maybe with photorealistic graphics... oooh, puuurdy.
@RupeeClock agreed
When I think Ron Perlman, the first thing that i think is The Lich
@aznable I thought of this and Cronos tbh. Anything Guillermo directed pretty much haha
Be honest: Without the music or the voice, is there anything here that really looks particularly worth your time? The gameplay just looks....bland? So far from what I watched of XO19, this was one of the lower moments of the first half.
@aznable I had cats named One and Miette
@YANDMAN After the last Contra came out, this topic deserves attention
I love comic book style rendering. It is so cool! Game looks pretty fun. Kind of like little mini room dungeon fights like in Zelda Links Awakening. If the controls are fluid, this could be an awesome game
@Tandoori totes adorbs
@John_Deacon Ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, once you get past the fifteenth hour of Contra it gets really good.
@NEStalgia I'm a sucker for a good twin stick shooter so color me interested
All looked good, especially the art style. I was sold until I read 'procedurally generated'
@CairiB I was thinking the art style has Mad World and NMH vibes.
@DockEllisD The gameplay reminds me of bird eye shooters like Pocky and Rocky, Skylanders and Heavenly Guardian.
@Moistnado What? Nevermind then.
@jump
I just think of the fallout games.
