Doom 3 might not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you do happen to own it on the Switch, you'll likely be interested to hear the game was updated last week to Version 1.03.
This latest update adds Slayers Club sign-in support. What this means is you can now link your account with your Switch copy to receive a red Doom marine skin and also a Doom 3 nameplate in Doom Eternal when it launches.
Below are the full patch notes:
Hey all,
We’re deploying a minor patch for DOOM 3 re-releases for all platforms today. This update has added the Slayers Club sign in option. By signing into your Slayers Club account through DOOM 3, you’ll receive the Red DOOM Marine skin and DOOM 3 nameplate for DOOM Eternal when the game launches!
DOOM 3 is available now for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
If you don't have a Slayers Club account, you can visit the official Bethesda webpage, sign up for free and then link it to your game.
While there's no mention of any other updates in the patch notes, some players noticed the file size for this patch was rather large. So there might be some other changes hidden away.
Tell us if you've noticed anything else about this Doom 3 update in the comments below.

Slayers club huh? I was suddenly reminded of this.

When the hell are they going to fix DOOM and DOOM II?
The last "patch" introduced new bugs where The Spider Mastermind emits the Hell Knight's death cry when killed, and likewise, the Arachnotron emits the Pain Elemental's death cry. It may not matter to many (hence why it seems NOBODY has called them out on it), but it's very distracting and renders the port sloppier than it already is. Bethesda must have missed the memo that patches are supposed to FIX issues, not introduce new ones.
Even more baffling is that the Hell Knight's death cry bug also exists in the first DOOM, even though the Hell Knight didn't yet exist in that game (nor was the sound effect present anywhere in the original WAD file; and I'd know as I spent countless hours scouring through the game's elements and even made a WAD in my high school years which I had subsequently lost ).
@Silly_G
Bethesda putting out a patch and creating new problems?
How unexpected!
I would get this, if it was a collection of the three on one physical cartridge.
With that free skin, it looks like they could feasibly add MTX to an old game. Wouldn’t that just be the most Bethesda thing ever.
@nessisonett The skin is for Doom Eternal, not Doom 3.
@Bunkerneath : Let's not end it there. I want DOOM 64 and Final DOOM on the cartridge as well. I'm baffled as to why Final DOOM wasn't released considering that it's basically just two map packs for DOOM II.
All five releases could easily fit on a 16GB cartridge.
Since buying the Switch Lite, I am even more appreciative of the fact that the majority of my collection is physical (as I can go back and forth between consoles without worry).
If Bethesda can iron out the bugs from the originals and better yet, implement local wireless multiplayer, I'll probably cave and buy four physical copies of such a release.
@Silly_G yeah let's complain to BETHESDA on Nintendo life, instead of, you know, contacting them via Twitter or their own forums huh?
I wish they'd add an option to stop it prompting the user to sign in every time the game is launched.
Doom 2016 still needs an update too. The deadzone for that game is just not up to standard.
@Silly_G As a switch lover even I say: Doom was born on PC, should stay on PC.
I think Doom 3 is an incredible game and hugely under rated. With all the new games that have released over the last couple of months, Doom 3 is the one I'm playing the most. Great graphics, amazing lighting, brilliant enemies and proper tension. Love it.
@hemonecrophagia Why, it plays perfectly well with a controller.
@MagnaRoader : I didn't realise that Twitter and forums doubled as tech support.
I have tried inquiring with them in the past and to date have never heard a response, so I see no point extended repeated courtesies if they don't have the decency to respond.
Customer satisfaction is obviously not a priority for Bethesda hence their low standing with consumers. If not for iD Software, I would keep my distance completely.
@OorWullie I’ve been considering DOOM 3 for a while and you’ve just convinced me. Looking forward to it!
@hemonecrophagia Hey, no need to be that way. If you prefer to play Doom on PC, then please go ahead and enjoy your Doom on PC. But why shouldn’t it be on consoles for us who prefer that?
@Silly_G but apparently complaining here at Nintendo life makes more sense and will get the job done huh?
OK buddy
@SquareOneMJ I've been meaning to send a recommendation your way. You're going to love it. It's definitely a different kind of experience but for me, one that stands up with Doom 2016.
@MagnaRoader : It doesn't get the job done. That's the problem. There are plenty of other things wrong with the port, but Bethesda are hardly going to bow to every suggestion that I make, just as any large company isn't going to radically alter their product just because one person has suggested room for improvement. Lack of quality control and testing is a huge problem with the industry generally and I can complain to a number of companies until my face turns blue but it's not worth stressing and fretting over a hobby, and I can vote with my wallet accordingly and decide what degree of negligence I am willing to tolerate, so I don't understand why you're being so antagonistic. Don't like my comment? Give me a dislike and move along.
I was merely pointing out the irony in Bethesda releasing inconsequential patches when there is still work that ought to be done on their other releases.
To cite another example, plenty here complain about Pokémon Sword and Shield. Game Freak are aware of the criticism. Are they listening? Apparently, yes. Are they doing anything to appease those complaining? Doubtful. Likewise concerning the performance issues with Link's Awakening (that hadn't been addressed with the recent patch), or are you going to scold them for not directing their criticisms directly to Nintendo as well?
Marketing departments are paid to visit sites like these (and social media etc.) to gauge feedback, so making issues known via these avenues is likely to reach them, especially when the broader community is made aware.
@Silly_G look dude, since you can't seem to grasp the literal point I have made TWICE in these comments without trying to sound "antagonistic" to you, this is it: NINTENDO LIFE is NOT the proper source to be complaining to. They are a Nintendo Fan Site. Literally no one important from Bethesda, Game Freak or even Grezzo will read these comments here.
Complaining on this site will do no good. Instead, take your passion and head to their respective Twitter accounts (which they do comb over) or their respective forum sites and complain there.
@MagnaRoader : And as I have said, marketing departments get paid to visit social media platforms and "comb over" fan sites to gauge feedback.
Plus, Twitter is an awful platform for giving feedback due to its text-message like limitations and is ill-suited for expressing various issues in detail. I'm not going to open a Twitter account with the sole intention of complaining to companies when most of my concerns are inconsequential and not worth working myself up about.
So on that note, stop getting yourself so worked up over a hobby.
@Silly_G dang really? not played it since the patch but was hoping that was everything fixed
Ugh, I instantly bought Doom 1 and 2 when I saw them on the eshop back when they came out, with excitement that I can now play these games not just on my PC, PS1, Xbox360, Raspberry P.I, my calculator.. But now my Switch as well!!
And never did I think it would have THIS many issues >.>
I love how it's now being reported as a feature update, that the only one of the 3 Dooms which didn't force you to sign in, now allows you to sign in!
@hemonecrophagia If you were born under a bridge would you still stay under that bridge? Don't tell Doom where to and where not to go. Doom can go to whichever platform it so choose.
@OorWullie Ehhhhhh agree to disagree honestly
I for the life of me, cannot aim with analog sticks
I just need a keyboard and mouse set up not just for DOOM but for FPS games in general
It's slightly allieviated in classic DOOM I and II by not having to aim vertically but still the keyboard and mouse just feels right to me
But still DOOM deserves to be played by as many people as possible and I am grateful it has made the jump to mainstream console platforms
This update was far larger than a simple option change. What did they do?
@BlueBlur101 : I was initially really peeved that I had to use dual-analog controls for a game that I used to control using just the directional buttons on PC (plus shift for strafing).
Frankly, I'm baffled that the D-pad/arrow keys still do nothing when they should serve as a substitute to dual-analog controls (perhaps with ZR acting as a standalone strafe key).
@retro_player_22 You're right Pokemon shouldn't be exclusive to nintendo, Halo Gears and Fable shouldn't solely remain a microsoft IP,. Infamous Sly cooper, Ratchet and clank, God of War, Killzone, bloodborne, Medievil all should be forced to run on everything else they weren't made for.
Doom original was born on PC, it's continuous love and support comes majoritively from PC gamers, in fact almost all game mechanics implemented into Doom 2016, were based on a mod named Project Brutality, which can be found on MODDB.
Classic Doom is better off on the PC. Bethesda and ID refuse to give proper ports.
Doom 3 on the other hand appears to run nicely on switch. thumbs up there....
