Earlier this year, we shared the news that the folks over at SMBmovie.com had stumbled across new information and never-before-seen deleted scenes for the infamous 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie. We saw our first deleted scene back in August, but now we've been treated to something arguably much more important.
This new clip clears up one of the film's biggest mysteries, where a very obvious continuity error saw the random appearance of a giant puddle of slime. The issue was that this slime played a pretty major part in the scene, with Koopa slipping in the puddle as the Mario Brothers catch him off guard.
Now, we can see that the slime comes from one of Koopa's technicians. Koopa catches him sneezing and decides to have him de-evolve into a Goomba, but things don't go according to plan. The new scene starts at around the 1:25 mark in the video below, but you can also hear more about what we just discussed by viewing from the start.
We can't imagine that there are too many people out there who genuinely enjoy the movie, but we have to admit that it is pretty cool to see all of this footage so many years after its release. More deleted scenes are expected to be shared by SMBmovie.com in the future.

So super duper blu ray, with all the trimmings, deleted scenes and audio commentaries when ?
Oh, 2099 ?
@KitsuneNight
We had a blu-ray already only like 2 years ago?
We need this on 4k UHD.
@Danksparce
Did we ? bloody hell.
Shows how much attention I pay to things.
And naw, we need 12k to pre empt everything else.
The movie lore gets more deeper and deeper then we thought!
@KitsuneNight
12k? What are we, peasants? We need this film beamed directly into our eyes via gamma radiation.
Hahahah man this movie...
This movie itself was a deleted scene by the Thanos SNAP.
What doesn't make sense is why this movie ever exsited.....😝
The movies ace! And, speaks to a time in cinema when anything was possible, so long as it leant into a grunge based youth culture that believed the Apocalypse would have a lot of purple and be based in Australia.
It's been a really long time I've seen this movie. I love it when lost and cut content gets discovered like this, years, even decades after release.
Trust the fungus.
Fungus Amongus.
Pretty sure Nintendo will never allow this movie to see the light of day again. If not them, then the families of those unfortunately to have acted in it (if their contract was good enough).
Off-topic but, I don’t want to wait 26 years for Joker deleted scenes lol
They're restoring and editing in the deleted scenes for a definitive version? Sounds good to me, but since they must be aware they can make no money from that, it will be some time before they are anywhere close to finishing it.
It's amazing how time erases the memory of how weird this movie truly was. I loved it at the time, and I have no idea why, but wow, this was weird. And as un-Mario as you could get.
But part of me still can't look away.....
When is the director's cut being released?
Such a great classic. Lol. My buddy is actually working on this project.
@NEStalgia
Remember though, back in the day there wasn't as much Mario lore as there is now.
There were about 4 main games and Mario Kart, was just 1 year old.
There wast more then 30 years and a slew of games, and lore to follow and solidify what Super Mario is, like there is now.
There was 1 2 3 world and land and that was it.
Nintendo decided to let the studio play fast and loose.
The results, ..speak for themselves.
I actually do enjoy this movie and have watched it several times since it first released.
@KitsuneNight Nah, even back then, SMB2, SMB3, SMW, the lunchboxes, and the SMB3 and SMW styled cartoons were more than enough to tell us what Mario's world was and that it was certainly not a Blade Runner-esque cyberpunk noir.
The movie felt much more Ninja Turtles than it did Mario. Sorta. Which explains why it was liked by kids in its time anyway. Though the TMNT movie was much much more tubular.
Some gaming franchises need to be animated films if they're to be films at all
I think the movie is fine.
I was reminded of certain pieces of music for some movies named "Back to the Future", "Back to the Future Part II", and "Back to the Future Part III" while listening to this video.
(thinks about a movie named "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"; remembers parts of it involving music similar to some of the music in the video)
@Spoony_Tech because Mario was popular and “video games make for bad movies” had yet to become a recognised trend at the time.
Deleted scenes aren't considered canon in like, any fandom so sorry, it's still unsolved
I own it and Double Dragon, very strange movies, even more so now. Definitely a couple of weird ones to go along with Pluto Nash.
@Spoony_Tech Because in 1993, Nintendo was in such a huge position that they saw easy money licensing it out. NoA (Nintendo Power) has essentially stated that watching the movie is what taught them to be more careful who they license their IP to.
(even though I'm the small minority who thinks the Mario movie is a pretty good "bad" movie on its own, just not a good MARIO movie.)
