It's fair to say that Untitled Goose Game has become something of a global hit for Australian developer House House. This simple tale of one goose's quest to cause as much chaos as possible has earned rave reviews and generated plenty of chatter online, and it will also have done the stature of the Nintendo Switch the world of good. While it has been confirmed that it's coming to other systems eventually, at the time of writing the only console you can play it on is Nintendo's.
Speaking to TIME, House House’s Jacob Strasser has given a little insight into why the company chose to target the Switch over the PS4 and Xbox One:
It’s the nice, friendly console. Its whole aura is one of friendliness, and it feels more inviting to non-gamers, or non-traditional gamers or players. When it came down to the decision of where we would launch, it felt like the right emotional fit.
If you're still struggling to get that elusive crown, then be sure to check out our complete Untitled Goose Game walkthrough.

To be honest, on any other console it would have gone by without anyone noticing
@Coolmeesje So true.
I was out getting groceries the other day and heard a "HONK" as I was walking to my car. I looked in the sound's direction and there were about 10-12 large geese standing in the field next to the parking lot. I think I set a new record for loading the groceries up, and I definitely flipped off the geese as I drove away. Not today, geese!!
It's a very good game. Makes me think back to my mischievous childhood just with much less police interaction 😂
I wish that game has physical release in the future. 😀
It has more charm than any other game I've ever played (sorry, Katamari Demacy)
@MasterJay
Nope it was destined to be streamer bait even if it was on the Ouya. Those Goat sim games were hugely popular multiplat gamesand never had all these articles lapping at its hoofs hyping it up to be some work of art.
It's a nice game with creative game design. So yes it would have been unnoticed on systems where the quality is ranked by development budget.
Waiting for physical. Looking forward to playing it. Witcher keeping me busy right now though.
@bleedinmagic81 What about hollow knight or Castle Crashers? Not even Undertale?
Don't get me wrong I like the game, but personally I think other indie games are way better. This game was just to short and I think other games went unnoticed because people rather by this game for the memes. That being said I'm glad they're doing well
Such a great concept. The wee bit of gameplay footage I watched was hilarious, but I don't want to spoil the experience so I'll be patient (though I admit that it's becoming harder to resist!).
Short or not, this brilliant little gem deserves a physical release and I know I'm not the only one waiting. Congratulations to all involved, and I look forward to seeing more of their work.
There's definitely a divide of what people expect to play on a Nintendo System to what someone would want on an XBox or Playstation.
It's strange to think the stigma Nintendo had of being the 'Kiddie Console' has been erased with the Switch. Or maybe the people are getting bored with what the other consoles keep churning out (FPS's, Sandboxes, Annual Sports titles), and the Switch has a platform that encourages variety?
The comment seems to have a particular smell about it, maybe they thought the same for the other game they made for ps4 and pc!
@MrGawain Modern Warfare launches in 2 days and is looking to be a huge release.
@Trajan I didn’t say everyone is fed up with those sorts of games, but there must be a percentage of people that are now looking for something different. People have skipped games like Anthem, Battlefield, Battlefront and Fallout 76 (not to mention last years COD), where people would have just bought them without question before.
Just seeing the XB1’s sales figures going down and Nintendo’s Switch sales going up suggests there is a shift in the market.
@Coochie_Kong tbh this game applies to a more casual crowd which is a much easier reach. It's extremely charming and it's brimming with personality. You could argue that Undertale is popular for the memes. Hollow knight is a great game but it's much more hardcore and I personally got 35 hours in got lost and gave up. Castle Crashers is also extremely charming but it's a re-release and I picked it up for preservation purposes. However, rereleases don't get the hype that new games usually get.
@MrGawain You're seeing things and attributing them to the wrong reasons. No idea what Anthem is, but Battlefield 5 sold poorly because they changed a lot of mechanics, stuff was broken, and they added historically incorrect interpretations of women in WW2. Battlefront sold poorly because of lootboxes. Fallout 76 sold poorly because the game is broken utter garbage. No idea with last years COD.
Xbox sales are down because everyone bought a PS4 this gen. Switch sales are higher because we can't play Nintendo exclusives on an Xbox (nor Sony exclusives). Also factor in the Switch is not only a unique console, but it is the combined force of Nintendos failing home console market with the vastly successful handheld market. 3ds sold 80 million. The real question is if that market is shrinking.
It's a game about a homicidal goose. What's not to love? I mean...HONK!
@MrGawain to argue, the ps4 has alot of great exclusives that are unique from each other like God of War, Uncharted, Last of Us, Persona, Ratchet and Clank, Gravity Rush, and Kingdom Hearts games. I think the Switch is doing so well because its concept works really well. Games on the switch fell at place because you can take them with you anywhere and that's why the switch is a viable competitor. As for the PS4. It's also a great platform for its exclusives.
@MrGawain the ps4 has a lot of variety, along side the PC. The Switch just can do well because it has a big demographic
@Chunkboi79 I see what your saying. I guess I have a high standard. I liked the game but I was very disappointed that I could 100 percent it in 5 hours. It's also $20 and had almost 40 people working on it compared to Undertal which is 15 and had 1 man work on it, Castle Crashers which is 15 and had 9 people work on it, And Hollow Knight which is 15 and had 4 people work on it. I know it's an indie game but I feel a lack of passion with this game and I dont know why. Hollow Knight has so much effort from 4 people and is longer than 20 hours. Goose game is 5 hours and was made by more than 30
@Coochie_Kong I will never question the quality of the games you mentioned but it's funny you mention undertale. Cause I thought that game was hot garbage. I hated the bullet hell nature of the game, and the sensitivity was too low on the switch (didn't look to see if I could change it if you can). To me undertale was too hard but not because it was a hard game, I felt it was artificially difficult cause the heart moved wayyyy to slow. I've beaten Cuphead and i never felt like I was being cheated. I understand the appeal and acknowledge the quality that Undertale has but it wasn't for me. However, this game reached the masses due to the appeal, casual nature, and charm. I get where you are coming from but I would say that length really isn't an issue for a lot of people. Me included. I do understand where you are coming from though, not all games are for everyone.
@Coochie_Kong I have yet to play Hollow Knight or Castle Crashers (a big part of me wants to play Hollow Knight, but metroidvanias have never been my thing). Undertale is certainly charming, but there's something extra special about Untitled Goose Game to me.
@bleedinmagic81 I never was into Metroidvanias either but Hollow Knight is exceptionally amazing. It is hard but it has less of the bs that's in Metroid. I played Super Mettoid before Hollow Knoght and played it again after it and I have to say hollow knight is leagues better
@Chunkboi79 I agree. I enjoyed undertale and I thought it was a little easy. Now I have played a game called bad time simulator at school (it's a browser sans fight) so I guess I had prior knowledge to how the game works. For me I like my games to be quick enough to be played in multiple sessions but not long enough that they drag out. I guess I felt that untitled goose game was not worth my money because I 100 percent it in one session. But again not every game is for everyone. Me personally I can only play games on the weekends so maybe I felt cheated. Sorry for the essay lol
@Coochie_Kong yeah I did play it in between sessions smash bros (training for a upcoming tournament). I bet with that sort of focus it would be pretty depressing to finish it that quickly. I lack focus for a game unless I am really into it. Honestly this game wouldn't hold my attention for more than an hour at a time. Which is probably why I enjoyed the shorter nature of it. I also don't have as much time now that I am starting my Masters degree.
@Chunkboi79 well good luck with your degree and I hope you do your best on your tournament! Who are you using king k rool?
@Coochie_Kong Kingdom Hearts is on Xbox isn’t it?
@TryToBeHopeful the 3rd one is not the hd collection which is literally all the games
@Coochie_Kong Appreciate it man! But nahhh when I made this account I was cruising on the K Rool hype train lol. I like him but he's not my best. I mained him first but I found that as the game evolved I had a hard time being spaced out by much faster characters and becoming combo food.
I am a Link and Hero main, I play extremely aggressive though compared to most of the people that main those two. Since those characters I can keep up with the speeds of most of the cast and out zone any campy players. I've found out zoning campy players is the best way to deal with them without having a hernia
