UK chart data is now in for the week ending 7th September, revealing that PlatinumGames' Astral Chain hasn't managed to keep hold of its number one spot.
The game fell to 11th place this week with a 73% drop in sales, leaving the chart's top spot open for any eager newcomers. That very position was taken by 2K's NBA 2K20, with Spyro Reignited Trilogy - which saw a new boost in performance thanks to its launch on Switch - taking second.
In fact, 92% of Spyro's sales last week were on Switch, but those sales only equate to just under 10% of what it managed when launching on PS4 last November.
Here's a look at this week's top twenty all formats chart:

Good to see Spyro shooting back up the charts, shame he couldn't quite make the number one spot! The Switch port of the Reignited Trilogy is fantastic, I've been really enjoying playing it these last few days!!!
Unfortunate. The gambling game is at the top. Despite the backlash, people still buy into it. Sigh
Can't say I'm surprised, Astral Chain is out of stock in the UK just like Fire Emblem has been since August. It would've no doubt done better if it was more readily available.
Has me rather concerned about Daemon X Machina and Dragon Quest XI S as I didn't plan to buy those 2 games day 1.
@JR150
Sales are a third lower for NBA 20 than 19 so that is something.
Although even I have my weakness for sports games that include microtransactions. Case in point being Fifa but I never go anywhere near FUT or spend a penny more than the original price of the game. I am happy just playing online seasons mode.
Astral chain is out of stock everywhere.
If it was in stock I’m sure it would’ve done better
@JR150 The casuals are either ignorant to it or just dont care or have the money to not care. Unfortunately it will never go away now,no matter how much it's despised by gamers. We're not the target audience
I thought people had enough of Spyro since it came out for the other platforms a year earlier. I'm glad the Switch boost it back up. Spyro probably won't be on the chart for long though compare to Crash. My guess is that because not all the games are on the disc/cartridge unlike the Crash trilogy not many people will choose to buy it physically.
Hey Nintendolife.
I know it's not the place but there's news about the Bloodstained's patch for Switch, delayed to "well, we don't know when"
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night/posts/2581977
Xbox One's patch was due for the end of August and is announced now for last week of September. I don't know about PS4 : maybe it has been released like it was planned at the beginning of August ? Maybe not.
You can delete this message after having read it of course
(is there any place where we can notify you of those sort of things ?)
What idiots buy the casino gambling cash grab of a game that is Nba2k20?
Spyro has been a pleasant surprise for me: graphics are beautiful, runs fine, controls are good (although they are what they have always been, but with some improvement). I've been playing it since day one.
"those sales only equate to just under 10% of what it managed when launching on PS4 last November"
That's the risk you have when you release a game port almost one year after the original release. For many people, it doesn't matter if the port is gonna be good or not, what matters it that they preferred to buy it and have fun with it almost one year earlier. Why wait if you're not even sure the game is gonna be released on the Switch? I think it explains such percentage. I'm very pleased with the game on the Switch, though
@JudaiMasters It'll probably cost $15 by February. Or less.... People are campaigning hard against it
@JudaiMasters The same ones who voted for Brexit?
Cue a political argument...
@RainbowGazelle
Please don't bring that krap in here. I come to websites like this to get away from that.
@smashboy2000 Yup should put it in the General Switch Forum or find the games Forum (they normally have one)
Anyways, YEY Spiro! Loving it, forgot how much fun it is, except the flying levels, they are so annoying.
It will continue to sell. A lot of people are getting a Switch this Fall to play the new releases, like Astral Chain.
@SBandy I'm the same. Pick up FIFA at launch usually and never pay a penny more. Although this year I will probably skip due to the legacy mode. I'll hold onto my copy of 19 for when mates call over for multiplayer nights.
@SBandy Fair.
Only a few people were streaming Astral Chain online, it's not a popular game. Something about Platinum's games, they get good reviews but they don't sell as much as one expects.
The ugly drawing on the cover won't enticed any casual gaming consumer to pick it up.
@blockfight
I will probably get the PS4 version to be honest as there is no way I am paying full price for a simple roster upgrade.
I do enjoy the faster gameplay of the Switch Fifa's but I worry about the strength of the online player base on Fifa 19 for Switch so will move over to PS4 this year.
@smashboy2000 Cheers! We'll have an article going up on this shortly.
As for news tips, anyone can get in touch with us on our contact page. 🙂
@SBandy Good idea. I'm getting Stadia at the end of the year. If FIFA comes to that I might invest to test it out.
@blockfight
Good luck to you with Stadia. I have been dismissive of its chances in the past (still am to be honest) but I admire anyone willing to give it a crack and try out something new.
@Pigeon
That is a poor comparison.
Smash released with a tonne of fighters and the extra paid content is DLC not microtransaction lootbox gambling scummery.
@JR150 Their last trailer of the game was just vomit-inducing. They’re not even trying to hide it and are just showing all the “fun” you can have with slot machines and wheels of fortune.
@ryancraddock Duly noted !
@SBandy I figured it was worth a gamble as I was planning on buying a Chromecast Ultra just as Stadia got announced. For a small bit extra I'm getting the controller too. If its not good or doesn't work well I can sell the controller online and I'll still have my Chromecast which I wanted to buy anyways.
So we shall see how it goes.
@blockfight
I have the Chromecast Ultra, it is great for streaming movies/3pm football games etc. so I can certainly recommend that.
@smashboy2000
Nothing in your posted link says a single word about a Switch update being delayed. At least, I canˋt find anything.🤔
@Pigeon Yea that Smash roster was pretty anaemic at launch right, only 74 characters!? Casuals.
@MrBlacky Scroll a little more down.
@smashboy2000
I did, still couldn't find it.
@MrBlacky It's in the paragraph "Last Word", under the fan artworks.
Nintendolife just published an article about it :
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/09/bloodstained_team_shares_update_on_incoming_switch_fix_but_theres_still_no_set_date
@smashboy2000
There is NOTHING about anything being delayed.😐 Can you quote the sentence in question?
@MrBlacky "As mentioned in the last update, the bulk of our development resources are still being put into the major Switch update. We don’t have an ETA to share with you on the full revamp, but we are on track to deliver on our internal dates."
Astral chain is probably a great game(don't have it yet), but I noticed games like these simply don't stay in the top spot for long. Maybe a replayability factor. Mario kart, Smash, Crash team racing... unlimited replayability. I think people may simply love cartoonish charming graphics too. I know I do.
@Pigeon When I picked up Astral, I was chatting with the store employees about GTA still being on charts. “I just don’t know how someone could not have played it yet”
Person behind me in line; “Do you have any GTA?” 😭
Spyro is great on Switch. The other game Astral chain sucks.
"10% of the PS4 sales and only 28% compared to the Xbox sales of Spyro"
Ouch. Games need to release at the same time on Switch. Tons have multiple consoles and not waiting
There were more copies of Man Of Meden at retail than a top 3rd partt exclusive for the Switch 🤦♂️
@smashboy2000
I read that, but "... we are on track to deliver on our internal dates." doesn't exactly sound the same like "is delayed". Also, wasnˋt there already a smaller update for Switch in July or August?
When I purchased Astral Chain they only had one copy left. The employee claimed it was a pretty big mover so they may have a supply issue. NBA looks like a yawner for me.
I've been eating up both Astral Chain and Spyro!
@MrBlacky I guess you're right. A patch has been released on Switch August 1st or something like that.
As a XBox One 1 player (for that game), I focused on the delay of the X1 patch. And I've concluded wrongly the Switch patch was also delayed. (I've read some comments that imply that too).
So to be fair, it's not delayed, you're absolutely right : it's still not announced. Thanks for the clarification !
It's a Switch patch release update which says "We still don't have any date to announce". As Nintendolife wrote correctly in its article.
god damb it at 11 that is a big decline
I wonder if part of that decline is lack of stock. I’m having issues finding it in the US nearby...
Is Mario kart the new GTA?
I've been loving Spyro! I never really played the originals beyond watching my siblings play, but I'm quite enjoying it.
