In a world where the Netflix app still isn't on Switch, we can still dream and imagine all of our favourite streaming services making the leap over in time, as everything must be on Switch... the internet demands it.
The latest fuel for the speculation fire is a comment which head of gaming services Ben Decker said at Gamescom to Gamereactor:
You know, we would like to see Game Pass on all platforms ultimately and I think that is a long term goal. We don't have any specific plans today, but we would love to see Game Pass really go everywhere.
This, of course, echoes Phil Spencer's comments during E3 this year. In the streaming war between Microsoft with Game Pass and Google Stadia, it does make a lot of sense to get your service on as many platforms as possible.
It's unlikely that Nintendo would want to allow this of course, as anything that distracts gamers from buying first-party games would likely not go down too well in Kyoto. However, Nintendo of America are increasingly getting more friendly with Microsoft by the day... so who knows? Stranger things have happened in the past.
Let us know if you'd like Xbox Game Pass on your Switch with a comment below.

This would be amazing but it all would come down to Nintendo in Japan right? I dont see Japan wanting to take eyes away from the 1st party games
Ya if they do better believe the online subscription gonna cost 60 bucks. All we want from Xbox is a RARE replay..
Would love to play Rare Replay on my Switch. Basically I just want Conker en the Perfect Dark remaster on the go.
As long as you bring Banjo Kazooie or Rare Replay to Switch... I don’t care how you do it but I’ll pay ... big bucks MS.... do it!
Makes sense for them, I don't really see the next Xbox selling in big numbers as Sony has far too much momentum and their games are on PC anyway
As per the many others above, and I'm sure below:
JUST GIVE US BANJO/RARE REPLAY
It’s just pie in the Sky. Microsoft are currently trying to whip as much attention around them as possible. We pretty much already know that the PS5 is going to be more powerful than the new XBox so MS has to start thinking of other ways of making Xbox stand out.
Currently MS are so far behind Sony in the console wars that they can only beat them next time out by having a wide spread of interest in their games and machines.
Games Pass on Switch would of course be awesome and in the US and Europe it would be welcomed. Ultimately though if it doesn’t please the Japanese Nintendo guys , it’s unlikely to happen.
I can imagine Nintendo being so prolific being quite the impasse.
@carlos82 I think a lot depends on the recent acquisitions Xbox have made. Potentially, we could see another flip during this generation just like when Xbox 360 seemed to dominate against the PS3, or it could work out a little more even... who knows?! Regardless, so long as us Consumers get what we want from the big 3 and enjoy, it doesn't matter ^_^
@jarvismp what evidence is there to suggest PS5 will have a more powerful console? Last time I checked they were both boasting about the same specs, more or less. Doubt XBox will make the same mistake they did last time holding back power to allocate for the ill fated Kinect. I genuinely think Xbox will close the gap in this next generation. Time will tell! All down to the games at the end of the day.
Just give me someway to play Viva Piñata and I’ll be happy. 😃
Gears of War on Switch please!! With motion controls like RE Revelations 2. With the 360 graphics, not the resmaster. Pleaseeee!!
As I don't like subscription-based models I wouldn't be interested in this, but the concept is staggering. Don't think it will happen though.
Anyone getting Stadia then........
I don't need Xbox Game Pass due to these reasons:
1. The games are digital download only, No physical.
2. I have no interest with Xbox 1st party games. Except New Super Lucky's Tale.
3. Mostly the games are rated M with very few choices of rated Everyone games. Even there are some rated Everyone games but not as strong or more interesting than Nintendo have. The only strongest Xbox games for me are The Sims 4, Portal Knights and DDR series.
4. Xbox games still lack of Japanesque / Quirky / Girlie games.
5. If streaming only, No thanks.
Lol. Xbox going to be like Sega....
@jarvismp lol, really? How do you know the PS5 is more powerful? I can't see either machine having major differences this time! I tend to ignore all PR chest beating, lest we remember the PS3? I can't help but feel Sony are rolling back to that era.
Did console wars not completely disappear by the end of last gen? Digital foundry ended it and they saved the Switch from going route of the Wii U. I rarely notice any sales boasts anymore or even much taunting over specs, console gamers seem more interested in gaming, PC gamers on high framerates.
I just notice the companies rolling and announcing their new games and services.
I don't think this will be possible for the switch. I think it will be to compliacted cause of the technical limitations.
Just give me killer instinct and i am happy
@ss213 definitely gears of war any of them horde mode would be great as well
I just wish they would license Rare games for Nintendo to have.
I really don't like the idea of streaming services for XBOX games. To use Game Pass as your main way to play games is one thing, but if you only want to play one or two games a year, it's a very expensive way of doing things. I'd rather pay once to always be able to stream a certain game than constantly to be able to stream many games I don't want to play. I don't know that it's a great fit for mainly Nintendo players. Value just isn't there for one or two games a year.
@sikthvash possibly but it'll be a couple of years before they see any benefit from those acquisitions which could be too late. Either way as you said its us that benefit
But what would be in it for Microsoft?
All this exclusivity breaking is a shot at their feet.
@carlos82 Indeed! I'm not sure if we're going to see a strong line-up at launch for either console - my bet is we'll see suped-up versions of Death Stranding, Cyberpunk 2077 & others that beneift from the new GPU whilst the Developers are hard at work on bringing new and intersting IP to the table.
Streaming is enough hassle with PS4, and that's 544p; if XBox Game Pass gleefully locks itself to Switch's 720, even my 2 Gb/day service will become an utter joke again.
i bet they'll wait until xcloud is ready for the public and then try to bring it even to the switch. just a simple 3mb app ... and all the games are playable over streaming. if that is the future, i will refuse to buy any new game console ;D i always wanted to complete or "restart" my sega saturn libary. so if streaming is the future, my future are retro console collections only ;D
There are only a few Xbox exclusives that interest me, and not even half of them would be able to run on the Switch. Some series like Gears or War or Halo I would prefer to play with a K+M. Not doable on Switch. I'm fine with Ori, and maybe Rare Replay and the Fable games.
All talk again... more action please!!!
I for one think itiridiculous that Switch still does not have netflix.
@Anti-Matter
all our posts are so negative and little self centred , just because you don't want it for your reasons there are many that do. at the end of the day no ones forcing you.
I don't understand your downer on mature games, gamers is for everyone. lots of good mature games which don't turn people in psychotic killers and rapists
@jarvismp I've been considering it! I have a good enough internet connection for 1080p streaming and TBH I can't tell the difference above 720p because my eyesight is so bad 😂
I like the idea of it but the lack of a subscription puts me off. It will be dependent on how Microsoft market xCloud.
This would make the Switch the ultimate console.
Why?
The versatility is already there but it's painfully lacking in the third party AAA category.
The Game Pass would bring exactly that to the table.
Not to mention that without it, the Switch will have zero AAA ports after the PS5/Xbox Whichever duo comes out next year...
The Switch needs Game Pass really, really bad.
If we just got Rare Replay I would be happy. Luckily I get to play Banjo Kazzoie/Tooie and Perfect Dark on my 360... It's really the only reason its still connected up, oh and for the Gears/Halo games...
I really want to play Rare's Jet Force Gemini again. I almost got an Xbox One just to play it....
Give it to me Microsoft! I would love to have it!
Of course they would. They want to rent you access to games, not sell them. The free games are just a lure.
I'm certain that when the XCloud is up and running publically, this will make it's way to the Switch. I also think Microsoft and Nintendo will release the ability to remote play your Xbone (if you own one) with your Switch so that you can play any Xbone games that you own, on the go.
@suikoden
I just don't want bring any rated M stuffs into my gaming room. Those stuffs are very negative and no benefits for me whatsoever.
It's my gaming rules in my place, i just want something appropriate for kids and teen in my gaming room. No gritty, no dark theme, no blood, no criminal themes, no strong violences, no foul languages, whatsoever. My gaming room is pure 100% Free from rated M stuffs. My gaming room is very Kiddie, Whimsical and Cartoonish. I even decorated my gaming room with my Chibi Boxers, cute as their looking.
Btw, i didn't even being negative from my post above. I just shared my opinion about the Cons of Xbox Pass based on my experience with Xbox games library from my searching. Maybe normal adult gamers didn't even have any problems with whatever games on Xbox Pass, but for me who is really against with rated M stuffs and just really want something Kiddie and Cute like on Nintendo, i found difficulty to feel satisfied with the library games from Xbox Pass since from what i have observed, Xbox Pass games have very few games that really matched with my interest, even i have tried to filter them by rated Everyone until Teen. I want to play DDR on Xbox but there is NO DDR from Xbox Pass, i want Girlie / Cooking / Fashion games but there are NO such of games like those on Xbox Pass, i want Cute games like from Japanese developers but i found kid games with less appealing for me from Xbox Pass, i want Quirky games like 1-2-Switch or Miitopia or Tomodachi Life or ARMS but there are no appealing quirky games from
Xbox Pass. With very few choices i can get, i didn't think Xbox Pass will be worthy for me. So, i really hope the newest Xbox machine will able to play Old Xbox, Xbox 360 & Xbox One games in Physical, Region Free and support DDR mat + Kinect + any peripheral for Xbox games.
@Sakura Different services for different needs. If "XCloud" follows Stadia you'd buy the game as a digital game, but then subscribe to play it. If it follows PS Now it would be a Netflix-like "pay monthly to access everything." Game Pass is cool, but it's like a rental service. Not a bad one, really. $10/month to rent anything in the catalog. Considering the rental stores here in the NES/SNES era were like $3.50 to play one game for 2 nights, that's a pretty good deal on rentals. Holidays were exciting, they'd offer 2 for $5! (for 2 nights...)
So as a rental service it's a huge upgrade from the 80's & 90's. But it's just that, a rental, not a purchase system. Phil Spencer commented at XO18 that they've found that Game Pass members actually purchase more games. So it makes sense, it's a rental system that leads a lot of people to purchase full games (and you get 10% off on purchases so it has a little of a rewards program in it, too.)
It's definitely a neat program, but it's not a replacement for ownership.
I really think subscription services are the closest we will get to “one box that does everything “ internet dependent but since game devs are becoming obsessed with streaming it may be something they are working towards. I suspect that will be once we hit the all digital format (it’s coming...PC has done it for at least a decade so devs have a model in place to follow) so there will be some gnashing of teeth, but 60 bucks a month (i have no doubt once physical is eliminated that the sub price will rise) to have a console sub on a competing console (that you would still buy native digital games for) could happen. Still allows for the consumer camps that devs don’t care about and still makes the big 3 money. MS just built xbox to get MS as a center of entertainment/ecosystem starter anyway. So they don’t care how you get their products and they really embracing SaaS on the windows side anyway.
Am I understanding this wrong? I thought with game pass you had to download the games. Wouldn't all those games need to be ported to Switch? Or is gamepass streaming?
Whatever the case, how does this work out for Microsoft? Why would I buy the Next Box when I can play their games on my Nintendo?
Tbh after this generation I'm not even sure I'm going to bother with the next Xbox.
@Ryu_Niiyama game devs aren't obsessed with streaming. Game executives and games investors are.
@Moon Yeah, that part confuses me as well. XCloud is streaming, Game Pass is just downloads. Maybe they'll attach it to XCloud (they probably will) at some point, but for now, yeah, it really makes no sense.
Ultimately I don't think MS cares if you do buy the next XBox. They want you to engage with their services/subscriptions. If you want to do that on their native hardware, great! It'll be the most tightly integrated. If you want to do it on Switch, or an iPhone, and subscribe to XCloud, also great. They become your portal for a monthly fee either way.
Similarly, they don't really care if you buy a Surface or not. They just want you to use Windows, and other MS products and services. If you do it on a Dell, or an HP, or build your own, or buy a Surface, it all works out the same for them.
@Sakura
At full price, game pass is $10/mo. That’s literally the price of 2 games a year, plus access to something like 200 other games you probably wouldn’t have tried otherwise. Game pass is the best value in gaming. All MS games are on there day 1 and they’re always rotating games in and out. Enjoying MGS V right now
Well, I am just interested in Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie for Switch. Oh, and Jet Force Gemini.
@NEStalgia Which will push to devs anyway. and devs are big fans of heavy lifting "in the cloud"...off prem is happening in every tech sector...gaming is no different.
If I could download and play some of my xbox games on switch I would explode with joy
@Ryu_Niiyama Devs aren't "big fans of heavy lifting in the cloud." Managers are.
Clueless managers who have zero comprehension of the implications of what they're talking about but do know how to talk buzz.
I'm, I'd like to be able to buy a Banjo Kazooie cartridge for Switch where the entire game is playable off the cartridge and no internet connection is ever required, or even established. And it should run at 60fps!
Didn't think much of it till I got PC Game Pass Beta after E3. Was planning on only doing it for $1 promotion - yet still have it after 3 months. They keep adding stuff.
Don't see myself canceling it in 2019 at least.
@Agramonte I bought 3 years back when it came out and was half price around E3 last year. I figured for that price I'd buy it, then cancel. But considering most of what they showed at E3 this year is included...seems worthwhile to just keep it going. For the price of 2 games a year I get to try their entire E3 showcase...not a bad value.
I can imagine Sony being like "nope, ain't happening. keep that off of our systems."
@NEStalgia Yep, I bought FORZA and Metro Exodus. That would have payed for the year at full price.
Not sure how long we get the $5 Beta promo - but even at 9.99 it is making sense. There is already A good number of games in the catalog that have a Switch version.
@MegaMel86 I thought it was more than that. That makes all the difference, makes it much more viable.
@NEStalgia I thought it was much more expensive than that, but I can see how it's viable at $10 a month. I honestly thought it was $60 a month and not sure where I got that idea from. Just having an idiot day.
Lol, at 60 it would have been "XBox Done" all over again
Actually for people in the ms ecosystem they started at e3 an even better deal: 15/mo for xb live and game pass for both xb and pc all inclusive.
@Ayye-ant we?
and its like 15 bucks
@Joeynator3000 its possible they alreday stated yes as they will most likely be using xcloud and others due to genki being a failure in terms of it working
I hope it does.
@60frames-please Exactly, Banjo on Switch cartridge would be perfection.
@Anti-Matter why does that room sound spooky...? You must play some games like tf2 or something....
@BeanoWild
Nooo...
I played Kids games by mostly.
I decorated my gaming room with my drawing creations Chibi Boxers.
@Anti-Matter well give tf2 a try. It's a great cartoon styled fps! ( Has blood in it) but it's funny as Peck!
@BeanoWild (team fortress 2)
@BeanoWild
Excuse me?! 😡
Did you even know my gaming rules ?!
I hate the games like that !
Why not? Xbox is going for a different demographic to Nintendo. As such I think it'd be complimentary to Switch to have it on there. It would all come down to what cut Nintendo got out of it. Make it large enough and it'll certainly happen.
@BeanoWild There's no point trying to convince him, he has some bizzare extreme bias against any game that isn't rated for children.
@Anti-Matter surprised you like pokemon then?( going by your display pic) Trainers capture and enslave pokemon and force them to fight other pokemon for their own entertainment. And in order to capture a pokemon you have to injure them at first. Dunno about you but that seems more barbaric than taking on demons in games like diablo or doom
@Pirlo_ze_sniper
Excuse me?! 😡
Barbaric?!
You have to blame other games with similar gameplay like Pokemon (Monster Rancher, Digimon, Re:Legend, Kurikin Nano Island Story NDS, Rune Factory, World of Final Fantasy)
Your rated M games references were even more Barbaric and Evil than my gaming references !
“Nintendo America are increasingly getting more friendly with Microsoft by the day”
Great, let’s get MM2 to run on some MS servers to get rid of the horrible lag when playing vs mode.
Let’s fix one problem before tackling another.
So killing a demon (depicted as embodiment of evil in all cultures), is bad in your books but beating up cute animals aka pokemon isn't considered animal abuse?
@Pirlo_ze_sniper
You have to blame other similar things also (Boxing, Kickboxing, Karate, Muay Thai, Aikido, Capoeira, etc) if you think Pokemon games is about abusing animals.
Your games references are EVIL and stop questioning me with your rated M games !
@Anti-Matter
You really are a strange one, but hey what do you expect from a fully grown man that dress as a ten year old boy and room decorated with pictures of Chibi boxers. It's a little creepy more so than someone who would have posters etc of violent films etc
@suikoden
Why not ?
Peoples have different favorite things.
This is me with my Quirky and Unique ideas.
Just because i am 35 years old grown up man it doesn't mean i'm not allowed to be Kiddie, Cute and Whimsical.
Btw, from my experience with other users that questioning about my Kiddie stuffs, the users who never likes to see a grown up man likes Kiddie stuffs were just never understand me as an Unique people.
@carlos82 I dunno, Sony's really been getting cocky. Their lack of crossplay could be what kills em.The backwards compatibility rocks though.
I wanna see Rare Replay.
@Totaldude911 Nintendo doesn't really do cross platform play either, to tell you the truth.
@Moroboshi876 Money would still be flowing into their bank account, but I see what you mean.
@Tempestryke You've got a good point, though Nintendo is operating on a handheld console. I hope for Sony's sake it doesn't turn into a big deal, the way Xbox one's DRM problem almost did.
@Totaldude911 :s Same here.
@Anti-Matter I just don't know. I'm attached to club penguin but I don't have 20 puffle plu- actually scratch that....
@Anti-Matter just spoken like a real hipster!!!
@suikoden to be blunt i find it that anti-matter is just a hipster.
@Rpg-lover
Is that a bad thing if i have different favorite things including in video gaming ?
