If you cast your mind back to mid-February, you may remember that a little video-thingy known as a 'Nintendo Direct' happened. Strangely, this feels like ages ago now, but one of the cool little announcements made was for a juicy DLC pack for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on Switch. That very DLC is out today.
Called Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – Special Episode, the DLC contains 18 new challenges among five new courses. You can pick it up in the eShop today for £5.39 / $5.99, and it's also available in a bundle with the main game if you're yet to give that a go. Those who pre-purchased the DLC immediately after the Direct have had the chance to play through one of these new courses ever since; if you're one of those people, expect to find the full package waiting for you today.
Also on that day in February, a free update was added to the game to inclue Partner Adventure Mode, a two-player co-op mode that lets players explore every course in the game together with a friend. We've always been fans of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker so it's great to see it be treated to more content.
Will you be checking out the game's new content today? Make sure to let us know how you get on in the comments.

Would buy instantly on Wii U, but I'm not paying £35 for it on Switch.
I bought the DLC just a little while ago but didn't play the new stage yet. I wanted to try it out in the full package when available.
This game getting DLC seems mildly strange to me though. I'm not complaining but you'd think Mario Odyssey or Super Mario Party would get DLC before this one. But hey, maybe that will come in the future?
I have this on Wii u and really enjoyed it but I’m reluctant to lay out £35 although I would like to play the new levels
There’s a ton (like 13/18 stages) of reused/remixed content. It probably took about a week to program this new stuff. This is safe to assume Nintendo opted for a quick cash grab.
They clearly need some content filler for the first bit of this year.
@Yosher I'm with you man! I just don't get... Mario Odyssey I'm assuming they will do like Galaxy.. instead of releasing a DLC, perharps a Mario odyssey 2... but mario party??? where da hell are the new boards? more characters? more mini games??? Mario Tennis keep receiving new stuff and mario party as far as I remember sold more...
Gotta say, as a person who bought this on WiiU I'm fairly annoyed it's not on offer there as well. Rude of Nintendo to punish customers who supported them during their weakest era by locking content behind a full priced re-purchase.
@kepsux Entitlement runs strong...
Didn't you perform a goods change when you bought the game on Wii U? Wasn't it clear what you bought and how much you payed for it?
This has nothing to do with punishment. No one is punishing you or forcing you into buying anything. Nintendo runs a business and given the state of Wii U they've most likely concluded it wasn't financially viable to have a version of the content out on WiiU
@rex_rex they released like 4 mario partys on the gamecube so they might do the same woth the switch and just churn out new mario partys every like 2 years
Oh hey! I forgot about this. Neat! I have the game, but I might get back into it.
@rex_rex Yeah that's my guess as to why Odyssey hadn't received DLC (yet) either but for now that's all it is, a simple guess. We won't know for sure until Nintendo says something about the matter.
As for Mario Party, the low amount of boards certainly makes it seem weird that this game in particular hasn't received DLC yet. It seemed like a great opportunity to go a Splatoon route even, where the game starts out with only a couple boards/stages, but having more added over time. Possibly as free DLC, also like Splatoon.
Either way, it is how it is right now. Who knows they'll announce some sweet Mario Party DLC in the next Direct!
I haven't bought yet, so i will wait for Rerelease in physical with All DLCs inside.
Oh my gosh it is so good so far. And 5 bucks? If you have this game, it is soooo worth it.
@chardir the dlc is only 5 bucks.
It is BRILLIANT and a really great price. I love it. Owned it on the Wiiu but love being able to play on Switch
I love it. The dlc is great and priced fair. Co op brings new life to the game and works great. I love captain toad and it’s great he has his own game. I have the Wii u big box version and the switch version.
Now we need gooomba to have his own game.
@Zach777 ‘probably took about a week to program’ - what a nonsensical comment
This is an amazing game and it works wonderful in COOP mode with my Wife!
@michellelynn0976 Plus £30 to buy a game I already own on Wii U.
Generic I bought the Wii U Version and I'm not happy that the update isn't coming to that version comment
$5 is reasonable so I may grab it. I did find the game a bit awkward to play on the Switch, though. I'll echo the thoughts of others above. It seems like a missed opportunity for Nintendo to not put out DLC for games like Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Party.
@Yosher I think Nintendo may be waiting for the fiscal year to end before announcing stuff like that. More sales may be of higher benefit in the 2019/2020 fiscal year than the 2018/2019 fiscal year given the lowered targets for 2018/2019. I'd guess there'll be a big early April Direct.
This one of the most fun and charming games I've ever played. I'm so glad to have more of it!
@tangram You are right, they can do as they please, and actions like this have put off a 30+ year loyal customer. In the future I will not buy into their ecosystems unless they are doing strong enough I won't feel as they abandoned me.
This is nice for those who are willing to double-dip, if they owned the WU original, or to extend the life of a port title.
Obviously, nobody is entitled to the game update, but Nintendo should put it on WU. I seem to recall that recently WU has had some games, or something minor during the weekly Nintendo Download. Of course, they don't really want to bring attention to the WU, so even if they did release this for it, it probably would be digital-only; no physical presence on store shelves.
@Yosher Didn't Mario Odyssey get an extra game mode with Luigi and balloons or something?
And you'd think people would be happy that they bought full games when cut content sold as DLC is so common now.
I used to work as a game tester and I literally saw a base game part get marked as "DLC" during later development.
@kamikazilucas well, let's see.. i dont mind buying again, but sure, i prefer DLCs, if the DLC is free cool, if not, ill buy it.. if they dont announce at next E3/direct, that is it.. ill lose my hopes..
@rex_rex the game has been out for a long time now though so i highly doubt they would do dlc usually they announce dlc for the game within 6 months of its release right
Too bad it’s not available for 3ds
@Marios-love-child so edgy with your comment there.
@Rodan2000
You really think so? There are some pretty talented people out there who can do impressive work. If you can reuse assets on 80% of what you’re getting and they have a Mario Maker style level builder. You’d better believe that this work didn’t take a whole stinking year or even months to program. Smack talk elsewhere.
I absolutely love this game - also had it on the Wii U. I don’t like it in TV mode though - this is one of the only games I play 100% in handheld mode only. Can’t get used to the gyro pointing.
@chardir It was on sale a couple weeks ago, right when the DLC got announced.
The Special Episode is pretty good so far. Goomba Galleon might be my favorite stage in the whole game.
Would've loved this on my precious Wii U...
@Zach777 you clearly have zero idea about programming
@kepsux I agree with you. No, Nintendo isn't obligated to do anything but taking care of your most loyal fans is just good business and something that Nintendo is usually good at. Stating that someone who wants the DLC to come to the original version is entitled is just b.s. With so many good games coming out and competing for my dollar, I'm not spending money to buy the same game again when I still have my WiiU hooked up and can just power it on. I'm hoping this is a Twilight Princess situation and that Nintendo rolls out this DLC to the WiiU at a later date and then I will also be getting it at that time.
@Grumblevolcano That certainly makes a lot of sense. I just expected it to have already been announced easy earlier. Wasn't Breath of the Wild DLC announced pretty early as well? Just something I'm wondering really.
@SmaggTheSmug Of course I'm happy to buy full games rather than having games cut content to sell separately later. Luigi's Balloon World was added as free DLC so I personally see that as part of the full experience anyway, so that doesn't quite count IMO. I'm taking about additional, extra content developed to just add extras to a game, like Breath of the Wild's and Splatoon 2's paid DLC contents.
@Yosher Well look at Captain Toad, released July 13th with no indication of DLC then suddenly DLC announced in February. While I did expect Odyssey DLC announcement either at E3 2018 or Game Awards 2018 if there was going to be Odyssey DLC and Mario Party DLC announced in the first Direct of 2019. Nintendo seems to varying their approach to DLC announcements so I wouldn't count them out.
@Grumblevolcano Oh of course I'm not counting it out. Just saying that I expected Odyssey DLC to have been announced before Captain Toad DLC, that's all. More than anything though I think I'm more surprised that this game got DLC at all I guess.
Why not use it along with the Odyssey levels towards a new game?
@hoopderscotch NSMBUDX doesn't have any meaningful content a WiiU owner cannot access, such as new stages so it's not a even parallel.
I realize the captain toad release is not for me, a wiiU (and Swiitch) owner. That doesn't mean I feel slighted that they are not including my purchase of the game as worthwhile enough to them to make the full experience available to me as they do to the latecommers.
Nintendo wouldn't release a direct port of Mario Galaxy. It would be upgraded to HD the same way the Zelda games were for the WiiU. It's not an even parallel as it takes vastly more effort to Port and is worthy of a full pricetag even to those who owned it on the Wii. Captain Toad is not enhanced in any way meaningful until they offered this dlc, and the dlc is certainly worth the cost they ask but not worth the cost of the entire game a second time and then also the dlc cost.
The issue is that the levels should port easily to the old platform as there were no major overhauls for the port, but they are choosing not to port them for their most loyal fans. It's their choice and they are under no obligation to do anything, but as one of their loyal fans it's a noted action and will influence my future purchases.
People use the word "entitled" these days the same way some use "snowflake", it's just a lame trendy insult. The only thing I'm entitled to is my feelings on the situation and that's all I have. I'm not at the gates of the company demanding free things, but if someone from their team reads some of the levelheaded feedback their fanbase has maybe they will adjust future decisions. Not everyone has to agree, it's just my point of view. Have a good one.
@chardir so? You get new levels for 6 bucks more.
@chardir
Bruh it's not 35 euros it's 5.39 euros
