To kill some time between now and the Q1 2019 release of WarGroove on the Switch, Chucklefish has released a new gameplay trailer for the long-awaited title. Based on the one-minute clip, the strategy game drawing comparisons to Intelligent Systems' Advance Wars and Fire Emblem series looks incredibly promising.
The publisher, unfortunately, remains tight-lipped about when exactly the game will arrive in the first quarter of 2019. Originally it was scheduled for 2017 and has been repeatedly delayed. In October, we found out the title wouldn't make 2018 as planned, as the development team wanted to ensure players would experience a "robust package" when the game was finally released.
In terms of what to expect, you'll be able to save a kingdom in the campaign mode, play as multiple commanders, create your own adventure with the custom editor mode, engage in online play and test your skills in an arcade and puzzle mode.
Take a look at the trailer above and tell us if you'll be ready for battle in Q1 2019.

I would love to see a new Advance Wars game, but hopefully this one’s good enough.
Looks ok but this will never be as good as aw or fe7.
This looks really good!
Forgot this was a thing. It's been a fair while since it was announced, hopefully the wait is worth it.
Looks terrific, really hope they can hit that window!
This game looks really good, I've been wondering how this game has been coming along.
Looks like the artstyle changed a bit.
More RPG...what can I say hopefully the rest of it looks good.
Chucklefish does what Nintendon't.
@jobvd Which AW? DoR was my favorite. The others were good but had bad stories.
@Kalmaro matter of opinion. DoR was the only one I didn’t like, got too dark and gritty. I loved the cheesy “war is fun” feel of the rest. There’s enough dark war games out there IMO. I played the games for the more lighthearted, campy stories... in addition to the gameplay.
Still quite hyped for this. Looking forward to playing as the dog commander!
@ShadJV Yeah I'm just the opposite. The irst three games felt like kids playing with toys. DoR felt 'real'.
That said, For was way too restrictive in how to beat their levels. You didn't get to be creative. In the other games you could do whatever. I liked using Sami and her broken infantry units. She got even MORE broken with Eagle in Dual strike. Bwahahaha!
@Kalmaro yeah I’m guessing more people liked the first three though as DoR didn’t sell nearly as well. I suppose I understand liking it to be darker and more serious, personally I never would’ve become a fan if that’s what I got though. I got halfway through DoR and realized I wasn’t enjoying it at all, felt like the character got removed from it, at least to me. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll get another AW of any kind anytime soon (if ever), but I’m glad smaller devs are trying to replicate it. I have high hopes for Wargroove, Tiny Metal fell flat for me. Considering one of the characters in this one is a dog wearing Roman armor though, I feel like this is going to be as lighthearted as AW original was and that gets me excited.
And I agree about having the freedom to find ridiculous strats. Doesn’t balance well for multiplayer but is really amusing for single player!
@ShadJV All I want is good game play at this point. Tiny Metal was just... Wargroove looks fun so I'm interested!
This looks really cool. Between this, Disgaea, Valkyria, Langrisser, and Fire Emblem, I think that Switch is building quite the library of SRPG's.
Can’t wait for this game, looks really good. Feels like years since this was announced. Will be day one for me, barring something weird happening between now and then.
@Kalmaro yeah, Tiny Metal has a few cool ideas like flanking but it fell short in too many other ways. Hopefully Wargroove is more polished, they have taken a long time after all! Better for it to be late and good than on time and bad!
Can't wait for war groove!
@Kalmaro dor was the worst ons imo. But I never play aw for the story.
Please don’t be £30
Day 1 purchase. My Switch is becoming a strategy machine (heavy rotation: Into the Breach, Valkyrie Chronicles 1, Civ 6, Kingdom Two Crowns). Keeping me from my 5 rpgs I want to finish. Need moooore time!
A definite preorder for me.
@ShadJV DS was my favourite AW just for sheer content. There was so much to do, even if certain missions were insanely difficult.
This game has been near the top of my want list for a very long time now.
The delays have irked me, because they are really getting my hopes up and thus my fear that this game wont live up to the hype I've let myself build...
As a huge Advance Wars fan--it's in my top games of all time list*--I am totally hyped for this.

...chucklefish?

I am still excited for it!
Nintendo Life strangely gave Tiny Metal a 9/10 score but after playing it for few hours I realized it’s problems.. it shouldn’t get more than 6 or 7.. Hopfully this wargroove is the real deal
Wondered for a long time where this game went. Then Into the Breach came to Switch. Now this is more of a wait-and-see title for me.
@ogo79 Didn't happen. You left evidence. Just saying.
Love the look of it, at least. I haven't been following it, but I'm interested.
Up there as one of my most hyped games for next year alongside Bloodstained (it is coming next year... right?), Fire Emblem and Pokemon Gen 8.
Remember when this was listed as a 2017 game lol. I just hope they were able to use the extra year and a half to really flush out this game. It looks like it has a lot of potential and I like what I have seen so far. Anybody heard anything about a potential price?
This is one of the very few games i will get digital (first) and will double dip for if / when it releases physically. Cant wait!
Looks intriguing so far. Here’s hoping it doesn’t release too close to Fire Emblem.
I love the fantasy/medieval spin to the classic AW formula. Day 1 buy for me now that they've fleshed it out a bit more and shown a larger variety of units.
Edit: yes I know Fire Emblem is essentially the better one but I'm stuck waiting for the switch one and this one will do nicely.
Every game I've every gottenwaited for that dragged out with repeated delays always bombed, was garbage... Chucklefish, please ..please prove me wrong this time.
