Upcoming title Battle Princess Madelyn has seen its second delay in as many weeks, publisher Hound Picked Games has confirmed.
Just last week, the game was delayed from its original release date of 6th December to 13th December, which means that we should have been able to buy the game this Thursday. Unfortunately, this second date has now also been scrapped, with new patches having been completed and submitted to Nintendo for clearance.
Christopher Obritsch of developer Causal Bit Games has said the following:
"Unfortunately, the delay for Switch (and PS4 (NA)) was unavoidable, but these extra weeks have resulted in superb feedback from some top gaming media, and experts, which means some new and exciting additions to the game will occur over the next month via patches updated through all the stores. Some gamers, although loving the game, have been frustrated by certain strategies in what is an 'old school' concept. As such a help and hints system patch will be available shortly to aid the player.
We have been totally transparent throughout and hope gamers will continue to feed us information. Due to the length of time it takes to get patches through the different publishers, we hope that the Switch version will be out very soon. We will ensure that all of the bug fixes and changes we took in from feedback are in the game on launch. Thank you for your understanding”
Naturally, with these new patches being submitted and the release date currently up in the air, our review of the game will also now come at a later date. Hopefully we'll find out a more solid launch date in the near future.

Once again, completely fine with the delay. So many great games and id hate to miss this one.
I'm okay with this. Waiting longer for a more polished experience will be worth it.
Just get it right, rather it release correct then everyone complain that it runs like crap and wait for a patch before you purchase.
But the Wii U version doesn't have any problems right. Is that one available yet?
I will double dip to get it on Switch, bought it on PC and it's incredible.
I backed it on switch and pS4 double epic fail!! Annoyed actually. yes i have games to play but i've also been waiting for this for a long time.
@YANDMAN
Since you backed it, you have more reason than most people to want to wait for it to come out as polished and finished as possible. I'd hate to have backed a project that was rushed.
I'm super stoked for this, but I don't mind waiting. I'll be playing Smash exclusively for a while and don't want to have to put this on the backlog. Also, this will give me time to finally beat Super Ghouls and Ghosts on my SNES Classic!
I find it also okay to wait a bit longer, if it's necessary for the last bit of polish. (:
@retro_player_22 Wii U version was always a 2019 release.
@Frenean It's more the fact that its out and perfect on two other platforms that annoys me. I would really like to play it, but im not spending an extra 15 on steam to do so. I think maybe some free steamn keys would of been nice in the interim.
Look any delay that actually not only corrects bugs not making consumers lame guinea pigs, but go above and beyond are all but welcome. Delay away. The fact they're taking found issues as well as constructive criticism to make the game all the more better for whatever audience is a worthy cause.
@hatch I thought it was quite worthy of it's praise, it was one of the best metroidvania's I had played in quite a long time.
A delay is always disappointing, but it sounds like they're making some really worthwhile changes that improve the game. As much fun as "retro challenge" can be, it can also be incredibly frustrating, and I'm glad that they're taking the time to make the game more enjoyable for all. It would be a shame for this game to essentially become as unpleasant as Super Ghosts 'n' Goblins all for the sake of such "retro challenge".
Better to delay and have it work than to '76 it!
Good. I want this when it’s as good as it can be. Sick of devs releasing unfinished crap, selling it at full retail price and then taking the next few months to patch it to decency. Darksiders 3, I’m looking at you
I’m a bit perplexed....are the changes they need to make already evident in the released versions or will those versions be patched at a later date.
No other release date given either.
My best guess is it has something to do with being able to save progress at any point because that is the only real difference between the switch and the other platforms.
Please understand.
I will say this. With delays come higher expectations-- It's just natural consumer reaction. Hopefully for their sake it delivers. On a related, but off-topic note, the same applies to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Kinda busy with 5mash, so I'm okay with this, specially if it's to improve the game.
Faith in this project ebbs away by the second with each new delay...
Better late than the devs pulling a Fallout 76 on us
If it means that the game will be better at launch I'm all for this delay
@BensonUii 7,7,8,7.
Thanks for all the kind words guys. Chris has been pulling incredibly long days trying to rectify all of the performance and errors that have been found post original submission for release. Believe me when I say that it wasn’t an easy decision to make, but we want the game to be the very best it can be for Maddi and our fans.
@Rodan2000 You have to understand that patches on Steam are pretty much instantly approved. Xbox and PlayStation there’s an approval system, but on Switch it takes the longest. I obviously can’t go into full details here, but all of what’s been addressed in the other versions have been sorted for Switch, too.
@BensonUii no plans on a physical outside of Asia right now I’m afraid, sorry.
Still playing the indie hit monster boy and the cursed kingdom and I am hoping to play that to completion, if i don't get stuck on puzzles which has happened in this game. But nothing obscure like the dragon's trap end game puzzle lol.
@eripmav thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated. Is there another release date confirmed?
@Rodan2000 no worries. I’m always happy to pop in when it’s a game we’re doing PR on or helping publish. Transparency is very important to us.
Right now we have a date, but until it’s confirmed it’s not something we can publicly share.
@eripmav kudos for taking your time to reply on a forum, thank you. I’ll wait with baited breath ready to purchase it when it’s ready.
@Rodan2000 you got it. I genuinely hope you guys love the game as much as I do!
@eripmav Is the delay going to effect the physical release dates? I’d rather have the full, completed game on the cartridge than a day one patch.
@Joekun hello. As far as we know, the Japanese publisher is still on track.
I wish more developers were kind enough to do this. Nothing but respect for people who take pride in quality.
This looks like a cool game, and I can see how they were inspired by Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts! Looks like it could be a fun time!
I'm ok with the delay. Got a few games I'm working on still
