Samba de Amigo
Released with a pair of motion-sensing maracas, Samba de Amigo came at a time when the Dreamcast was practically on life support and could have been viewed as the ultimate peripheral-based folly – but, if like us, you bought it anyway, you'll know it was a total riot. The Dreamcast original is perhaps the best way to experience this game, but the Joy-Con could easily stand in for those maracas. If this wish doesn't come true, we've always got the Wii version.
Rez
Tetsuya Mizuguchi's on-rails masterpiece came right at the end of the Dreamcast's criminally-short lifespan, but what a send-off it was. Imagine After Burner and Panzer Dragoon fused with Tron and you're not far off. Rez has been ported to other systems since then, including the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and – more recently – PlayStation VR and even smartphones. Despite the vast array of conversions, we'd love to see the Dreamcast original as part of the Sega AGES lineup; what a swansong this was for the console.
Fighting Vipers 2
It's odd that Sega never did more with the Fighting Vipers series; outside of the arcade releases and the Saturn and Dreamcast ports (not to mention its role in the all-star Saturn release Fighters Megamix), the franchise has been largely forgotten; that's a shame, because the game's unique armour-destruction mechanic was fun, as was the ability to smash opponents through the walls of the arena. A Sega AGES port of the excellent second game would just about make amends for this oversight.
Virtua Tennis 2
Here at Nintendo Life, there's one universal truth that has stood the test of time, and that is that Super Tennis on the SNES is the best tennis game ever made. In second place is the superb Virtua Tennis 2, which, while arguably offering less nuanced mechanics, looks and sounds a lot better. One of best multiplayer options on the console, we'd love to get back on the court with a Sega AGES conversion.
Dynamite Cop
By the time the Dreamcast launched, the side-scrolling fighter was very much out of favour, which made the arrival of the astoundingly good Dynamite Cop (Dynamite Deka 2 in Japan) all the more remarkable. The original Dynamite Deka had been released in the west as Die Hard Arcade, but Sega couldn't obtain the movie licence for this sequel, hence the name change. Don't allow that to put you off, however; this is one of the most enjoyable belt-scrollers ever made and is bursting with fresh ideas, fun moments and multiplayer mirth.
Metropolis Street Racer
Coded by the sadly defunct Bizarre Creations in the UK, MSR was billed as Sega's answer to Sony's all-conquering Gran Turismo. It certainly didn't disappoint, despite lengthy development delays; the game's unique 'Kudos' system encouraged skilful driving and the visuals were, for the time, nothing short of incredible. It perhaps hasn't aged as well as it could have done, but it's still fun to play even by modern standards.
Soul Calibur
Namco made a big song and dance out of the fact that it was supporting the Dreamcast with this amazing fighter – the sequel to Soul Blade, which of course appeared on the Sony PlayStation a few years beforehand – but outside of an almost obligatory port of Mr Driller, the famous Japanese firm didn't release any other games for the console. It's easy to be bitter even after all these years (we were at the time), but Namco arguably did more for the Dreamcast's fortunes with the release of Soul Calibur than almost all of the other third-parties combined. A stunning showcase for the platform's powers, and a pretty solid fighter even by 2018 standards.
Outtrigger
Sega has, at times, been accused of playing it safe, but this unique team-based shooter was anything but a safe bet. Released in arcades with a multiplayer focus in mind, the subsequent Dreamcast port took the premise to new heights by adding in online support for up to six players. While the controls were a little rough at the time, this is one of Sega's true underrated classics which deserves a new lease of life.
Sega Rally 2
An early release in the Dreamcast's life, Sega Rally 2 was an incredibly close port of an arcade game that, lest we forget, was still pulling in the coins all over the world at the time. Being able to actually experience such a close conversion in the comfort of your living room was a revelation, and while it's undoubtedly showing its age, we'd love to get reacquainted with this seminal racer on Switch.
Cosmic Smash
Released around the same time as Rez, Cosmic Smash has remained in the shadow of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's classic for years – and unfairly so, if you ask us. While it's a very basic setup – this is like a game of Squash but the objective is to smash blocks, like in Atari's Breakout – there's a surprising amount of depth on offer. The single-player focus certainly harmed the game's chances of mainstream success, but perhaps M2 could work its magic and solve this issue with a Switch port that allows for a second player?
So there you have it; 20 games to celebrate 20 years of the Dreamcast. This was a hard list to compile and we left out many titles – such as Zero Gunner 2, Street Fighter III, Gunbird 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999 and Ikaruga – because they're already on Switch in some form or another.
Notable mentions must also go to the likes of Airforce Delta, Sword of the Berserk, Quake III Arena, Marvel vs. Capcom 1 & 2, Phantasy Star Online, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Mars Matrix, Dead or Alive 2, Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein, Cannon Spike, TrickStyle, Zombie Revenge, Tech Romancer, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Virtua Striker 2, Grandia II, Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate, NBA 2K2, NFL 2K2, Seaman, 18 Wheeler, Border Down, Giga Wing 2, ChuChu Rocket!, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram, Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes, Headhunter... the list goes on.

What? Just 20?
Seaman or bust
Just wanted to say thanks so much for including Dynamite Cop and Metropolis Street Racer in the top 20 here. I played an ungodly amount of both back in the day. :]
My wife bought me a Dreamcast at a yard sale for $20, it ended up being in near mint with like 10 games and is a model 1 so it plays burnt games, 4 games of which are worth like $80-$120 lmao. I think they should bring the whole library over time, most were great.
Crazy Taxi 2 and Space Channel 5 are the only ones I'm super familiar with, didn't get much time in with the Dreamcast before it became irrelevant and my one friend who had it sold it. I really loved those games though, so here's hoping they come to the Switch.
Love cosmic smash great game needs an update for the latest consoles I have owned my DC since day 1 so I have a massive Dreamcast collection but would love to play them on the switch
TOY COMMANDER!
@NintendoFan4Lyf There are a bunch of hidden gems on DreamCast, many people never got to play most of them. It is a shame they lost consumer faith with the Saturn.
No one would have want Dreamcast's Street Fighter Zero 3 as it was inferior to the Saturn port
I wanna take you for a ride
@Tyranexx
I triple dog dare you. 😈
No Sonic Adventure 1/2?
Nobody mentioned HEADHUNTER ? o_O
@Cobalt It's in the honourable mentions section at the bottom.
@Buizel No, because they suck.
Just want them to stop toying with my emotions, and bring me GBA version of Shining Force, Shining Force 2....and 3 in English finally. DreamCast stuff can wait.
House of the Dead 2, Gundam Sidestory 0079, Powerstone, Toy Commander, and Resident Evil Code Veronica are my wishlist for Switch gaming.
"the machine wasn't short of exclusive games, either, with Skies of Arcadia, Power Stone and Shenmue being three notable examples."
Probably just a brain fart, but Power Stone was a NAOMI port.
Lists like this have a way of inducing anxiety, particularly when they include the sequels rather than the originals (even if the sequel is technically better). Seeing a "2" after a title makes me feel that I'm missing out on something.
@Damo
My bad !
But Headhunter and Code Veronica in the honourable section seems strange to me. I think these two deserve a better treatment !
Whatever, I personally don't want ports anymore, I already have all these games on the original system....
Most of these have been re-released already on other consoles.
Also, Sega Rally 2 was a rubbish port with constant frame rate issues (due to using Windows CE), it's a real black sheep amongst Sega's arcade conversions.
@Damo It sounds like somebody didn't have a Dreamcast back when it released lol. I always enjoyed the Sonic Adventure, but then again I imagine that is largely down to nostalgia.
Playing Daytona USA with the Dreamcast steering wheel it is my favourite racing game ever. Playing Daytona USA with the Dreamcast controller it is just dreadful. I found it to be unplayable.
@JayJ this site was built using Dreamcasts
@JayJ I got a Japanese one the month it launched, along with Power Stone. Sonic Adventure was a buggy mess and the second game was massively dull - but, of course, that's just my opinion.
So many great games on the Dreamcast.
The list could easily figure 50 quality games.
Grandia II, anyone?
MSR minus the "cars welded to the track" physics I'd be up for. The final race of Chapter 25 in that game was something else, still have vivid memories of having to pause it half way through to calm myself down.
@Damo Hey to each their own, I liked it.
@Cobalt I just remembered that game the other day! Was great at the time, though the city was weirdly empty. I recall there was an Xbox sequel that wasn't as good...
Macros M3 and Starlancer were my jam. I had one of my first legit jobs when I got a Dreamcast and was in heaven. Had to import M3 for like $110
@Aneira we'll save that for the 50th birthday
I just can’t wait to play Sonic Adventure 1&2 again, especially with portable Chao. Surely 1 will be part of the initial line-up whenever the day comes.
MSR (prelude to PGR/Forza) and Seaman.. But someone/anyone really needs to make those Dreamcast Joycon's.. https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/59pxnv/dreamcast_joycon_mockup_the_dreamswitch/
@bombjack this may be true, but how many gamers have a NAOMI in their homes?
Considering we already have light gun games on Switch, Ive really been hoping for a HotD collection, and some Time Crisis.
@bombjack You're right, my bad. I just so closely associate it with the DC launch that I overlooked the arcade version there.
Toy Commander
So many great games on the Dreamcast hard to argue with the picks as they are all great titles
I'm sorry, but what about Seaman? For Nimoy!!!
Fur Fighters was my favorite as a kid
I have half of the games on this list. I don't want to say that there are quite a few games that don't deserve to be on a top 20 but I will say that there are better games that deserve a spot on the list.
Crazy Taxi is way better than Crazy Taxi 2. All that extra [removed] that they put in the sequel did not make for a better game. The first one is a polished arcade game, while the sequel felt rushed just to make $$$.
Mind your language - Octane
Great list. I’d also love to see Soul Reaver, Confidential Mission, Marvel vs Capcom 2 and maybe something quirky like Red Dog.
Bangai-O at least deserves honorable mention. Daytona USA is a great game, but never really cared for the DC version, they really messed up the physics and handling.
I have Canon Spike on Dreamcast, and would gladly pay $20 for that port. I can't believe Capcom never made a sequel. I specifically came here to say that and saw it got honourable mention. Favourite game on the Dreamcast.
How can I take this list seriously when Fighting Vipers 2 is on it, while Marvel Vs Capcom 1 and 2 are listed as honorable mentions and you completely forgot about Street Fighter Alpha 3!?
This makes me feel old... was i really 20 when the dreamcast came out 😭
Soul Calibur is actually what sold me on the system. I saw that in a game store, running in demo mode, back in the day, and I was literally completely awestruck how arcade-like that looked. I was a regular arcade visitor back then, and I never thought we could get a machine in that decade that could replicate that feeling, but the Dreamcast did, and not just with Soul Calibur. It had me glued to my place for well over an hour, until some store clerk pulled me back into the real world again by saying: "looks great, doesn't it?"
And it did, and it still does, to this day. And so many titles still hold importance for the entire industry. I think it is exactly that, which some people fail to understand, instead only commenting on how dated it looks or how dated the controls are.
None of that matters: they are landmark titles, and that's a forever title. There is no "it's already been done better". Once you're knighted, that's a title for life, period. And the Dreamcast was, is and will for always stay the console with the most pixel-perfect arcade conversions, and I'm very proud to still own a Dreamcast which is still in mint condition, and which I still boot up every now and then, to let Soul Calibur run in demo mode. That animation is still incredibly fluent, and considering how old that game is, it still looks fantastic.
@Jokerwolf I think it's pretty safe to say that loss of consumer faith already started WAY before the Saturn was even a thing. People were still busy trying to process all the Megadrive/Genesis add-ons that arrived in (too) short succession to one another...
ARCADIA AND SHENMUE! Can't wait for the Grandia games to get a Switch release date. All we have heard is Winter 2018.
@Damo I’d be chuffed with Skies of Arcadia 20 times tbh!
TOY COMMANDER
@SethNintendo I just did, up there.
@NEStalgia: I... feel like I'm missing something. I'm very confused by your comment. XD I've never played or owned a Dreamcast, though I've heard decent things about the system.
It's been one of those days....
what? no TimeStalkers? Madness!
The Gamecube version of Skies of Arcadia would be much preferable. The encounter rate is an absolute affront to sanity in the Dreamcast version. They fixed it perfectly on Gamecube.
I'm really surprised there isn't sonic shuffle here. What gives!?
Crazy Tax — Ridesharing before it was a thing.
Skies of Arcadia — I had this SoAL for Gamecube, in my hand, borrowed from a friend..... And I played it, but did not beat it before handing it back because I was too busy playing so many other games. This is one of the bigger gamer regrets I've had and have not been able to play this RPG since. Whether it's Sega AGES or Nintendo pulling it's thumb from its rear regarding Gamecube classics, I NEED another shot at this game, someway. somehow. I continue to hope in anticipation...
I played most of these games. The only ones I’d play again are Crazy Taxi 2, Power Stone, and maybe Dynamite Cop. I’m not sure how the Virtua Tennis games have held up but for the time those were a ton of fun.
I'm going to cheat and hope Midway Arcade treasures 3 comes out. Featuring Dreamcast versions of Hydro Thunder and San Francisco Rush 2049 (2 of my favourite games ever.)
Seriously, who do we have to ask to get classic Midway games on the Switch?
@SethNintendo True, we all know that the REAL men were playing Sonic Adventure 2 as this:
I didn't have a Dreamcast but a friend did. The first Resident Evil game that I played was Code Veronica, a masterpiece that should be remade. Jet Set Radio was a lot of fun. With Dreamcast Sega corrected the 32X and Saturn mistakes but competition was fierce.
I'm hoping Sonic Adventure 2 makes it to the Switch. It's still my favorite Sonic game.
@GrailUK Was waiting for someone to mention Hydro Thunder. Now that's a port. I'm not sure if they ported Arctic Thunder but that was a fantastic racer as well.
Selling my Dreamcast to my older brother was the biggest mistake I ever made. What I loved about it more than anything, besides its amazing library, was how you could connect it to a PC monitor and get visuals that beat anything on a TV at the time.
I really loved that console. Before Switch, Dreamcast held my personal record of most games possessed at one time for a console. I just couldn't stop buying them.
Isn't Grandia 2 already confirmed for switch?
Also skies of Arcadia would be the dream. Definitely the GC version though.
I would have loved Shenmue but I already supported the ps4 version
Not a bad list but Grandia 2, Sword of the Berserk, and Record of Lodoss War were some favorites of mine. Grandia 2 is coming to Switch so I can see the omission.
TOY COMMANDER
(aka the best "Toy Story" videogame adaptation ever)
There's 1 dreamcast game that stood above all the rest in my opinion: Jedi Power Battles!
Although I was always curious to try it version of Ecco the Dolphin
My favourite ever system alongside the Super Famicom. It would be great to get some more DC games on the Switch, although I’m happy just playing on original hardware still.
The VGA Box means it’s still pretty easy to connect up to screens today and get a great image.
Would rather have the Sega Model 3 version of SEGA Rally 2, the Dreamcast port was awful
Powerstone 1 & 2 (Maybe even make them online)
Tech Romancer (Without a doubt, one of the better Capcom Fighters
Gunbird 1 & 2
@TheIronChimp Whoops, I was referring to Head Hunter, I should have specified. Yep PGR was a great improvement over MSR, plus gave us geometry wars!
@Kriandis Dude, those are literally my 3 fav dreamcast games . Powerstone 1 and 2 and Tech Romancer. I spent hundreds of hours playing that Tech Romancer, still to this day.
Id pay for all of those again in a heartbeat on the Switch
Street Fighter Alpha 3 should be released as well. Dreamcast, IMO, is the best version
@Alexface Yep. Grandia 1 and 2 are both confirmed for Switch. I noticed that too.
I’ll take all the houses of the dead, skies of Arcadia, and power stone.
House of the Dead 2: how to solve the light gun issue: release the US version. No light gun because Predatory Mainstream News. Solved.
Oh wait... this is Sega we're speaking of and not Nintendo. If M2 did it, they'd want to give a proper rerelease and not the cheapest.
Toy commander and rush 2049 for me
Good list, but really need SC5-2 rather than SC5, and CT rather than CT-2. CT has been ported, but without the Offspring. What we need is Crazy Taxi with original music.
A few others we need: Ikaruga, Grandia 2 and a personal favorite - Toy Commander
The only games I would be interested in are Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2. Preferably the GameCube versions.
One thing needs to happen before we get DreamCast games on the NIntendo Switch...
Analogue triggers!
METROPOLIS STREET RACER would be brilliant but I can’t see it. Still waiting for MS to make either of the 360 games work through XB1 BC.
CHU CHU ROCKET would be welcome as long as it included all the single player levels from the GBA game.
VIRTUA TENNIS 2 I would take but an updated port of World Tour from the Vita would be better.
SKIES OF ARCADIA Yes please
REZ would also be nice. I’ve got it on PS4 Pro (3rd copy I’ve owned) and not sure I’d buy again but it would be great if more people get to experience such a hidden gem. HD Rumble could help too.
Samba would be a blast with them joycons and it won't cost 100 pounds this time also no love for resident evil code veronica?.
@embison
Ikaruga is already out and Grandia 2 is on its way 😃
Rival Schools!
@bones
Oh yeah. Samba with the Joy Cons. Good shout. The Wii version didn’t work very well but a Switch version would make up for that.
I still have my Dreamcast, but it’s very hit & miss for System to read the game discs, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t - most annoying
Still my favourite Console, although I have a PAL version. Shame the PS DVD player killed it.
Would love for all of these games to be part of the Ages lineup.
Loved Ferrari F355, MSR, Shenmue, ChuChu Rocket. Never was able to play Propella Arena, but I liked the look of it.
Not being sexist, and I know it sounds picky, but i couldn’t get used to the sound of “Ladies and Gentlemen, Start your Engines” in the DC version of Daytona - to used to playing the Saturn version I guess
@GrailUK I have Midway volume 1, 2 & 3 on my PS2, would love for all of that to be released on the Switch
@Gerald yesyesyesyesyes. I have them for my Gamecube
@Tibob my friends and I used to have the most intense battles in that game. Loved the variety of vehicles.
@ReaderRagfish Powerstone is awesome on Vita via the psp downloadable game. It would be way better if it similarly runs at 60 fps on Switch. The multiplayer would be so fun! Same goes for Chu Chu Rocket, which should've already been released for Switch with online or couch competition multiplayer. There's many great Dreamcast games that should come to Switch. Oh, Soul Calibur should absolutely happen!
I don't play Dreamcast, but i want to see Dream Para Para (Dreamcast version of Para Para Paradise that also on PS2 with different song list) on Nintendo Switch.
Swing the Joy Cons like you play Para Para Paradise Arcade version.
@Gerald How come you were never able to play Propeller Arena?
It's freeware now, and the unreleased game can be downloaded for free, as well as a couple of others that never released. Provided of course that you have a Dreamcast that can read burnt discs...
Save for with maybe two games at most, I also almost never experienced the disc reading problems you mentioned, so perhaps somethings up with the drive?
Top 10 for me would be:
Soul Calibur
Dead or Alive 2
Jet Set Radio
Skies of Arcadia
Grandia 2
Virtual On
Crazy Taxi
Headhunter
MvC2
Hotd2
@ThanosReXXX i remember at the time seeing a preview for it, but I think it was never released in PAL region (or at least I never saw it here in the uk).
I never followed up on it over the years (blimey, <looks at watch> it’s nearly 20 years ago)
I have my original Dreamcast (not modded). I assume it won’t read a burned disc.
My issue with the system is strange, when I boot up the system, after the Dreamcast logo finishes (at this point I am holding my breath) if the screen turns white with the Sega sign I Breath I sigh of relief, but sometimes it just goes to the 4 option screen, after that it is the usual blow the dust / clean disc etc, and it still won’t work. Then I try it 30mins later, and it works fine - it’s a strange one - no pattern or repeatability to the issue
@Gerald My Dreamcast isn't modded either, but it's a series one, which can read burnt discs as a standard option, so no need to fiddle with the console or its innards.
Just Google "Propeller Arena" and/or the word download, and you ought to get plenty of results. Find an empty cd to burn the iso to, and try and see if it boots up. It's actually quite the entertaining game, and it's completely finished.
The "fun fact" aka the sole reason for it not ever being released, in case you didn't know yet, is that in some levels, planes fly amongst sky scrapers, and at the time, that reminded too many people of 9/11, so they decided not to release the game.
Normally, developers might opt to change some levels and just release a game at a later date, but this was already during the Dreamcast's final year, so they probably didn't want to put in that effort anymore, which, from their perspective, is pretty logical.
@Gerald As for the disc reading issue: I'd say try and clean the lens eye with pure alcohol, or open the console up and clean it completely.
After all these years, there might be quite the dirt build up...
And if all else fails, believe it or not, there's still original replacement drives available online, so you could always keep that in mind as well. They don't cost that much either.
Sega Bass Fishing is worth mentioning too
@WaveBoy Yeah... I never really understood that weird wire/cord placement either.
Oh, and while we're listing improvements: how about better optimized VMU's, that don't eat two batteries per week...
(slight over-exaggeration, but you know what I mean)
@Hyrule Yeah, those were great games. Even the Tech Romancer VMU game was fun to play. I still have them for Dreamcast and me and my son play them from time to time. I also have two Agetec Arcade Sticks to play them with. Such amazing games!
@ThanosReXXX thanks for the info fella, much appreciated
Omg I’d die if these games showed up on Switch!!! Or even PS4 or Xbox for that matter!!!
@Gerald You're welcome man. Always happy to assist a fellow Dreamcast fan.
By the way: if you do end up having to install a replacement drive, needless to say you will have to take care that it is a PAL drive, otherwise you won't be able to use any of your original games anymore. Perhaps stating the obvious, but better safe than sorry, right?
Crazy Taxi, Crazy Taxi!!!!
Dreamcast: The late 90's Wii U. Much ❤️ to both.
@JayJ
Dreamcast was the last system I bought before the Nintendo Switch (true story). I dunno, mang, Sonic Adventure felt unplayable and whack to me back then. However, I was the kid with the PC-Engine and Saturn and import dealers on speed dial back then. So, you can imagine that anything 3D was already above my pay grade. Strokes and folks.
Why so Dreamcast got failed and so long this years?
Great List.
I had many hours of fun with Gauntlet Legends
So many good games.
ChuChu Rocket is still a blast.
DC Sonic Adventure is probably the worst version, no 60fps, no GBA support, no mission mode, no Metal Sonic.
It was the first GameCube game I played, with Spyro 2 being the only 3d platforming experience I had, Sonic changed everything...
Long live Chao in Space!
@robr A lot of the 3D platformers back then had issues, I just remember the game having a great soundtrack and looking amazing for 1999.
No Ready 2 Rumble? Was that game not big in the UK or something because that's always the first one I think of.
Phantasy Star Online please, SEGA. It’s still the gold standard for online console RPGs that done need a huge open world for compelling co-op gameplay. I’m looking at you, Fallout 76.
Crazy Taxi 2 is rubbish. The first game is far superior.
@ThanosReXXX thanks for the tip
@NobodyImportant this, we need the saturn version of daytona.
@JayJ
Sho nuff.
I'd also like to see Dead or Alive 2, Ready 2 Rumble, & Sword of the Berserk.
Capcom vs SNK FTW!!!!!
Tokyo Highway Battle - Gauntlet Legends
My list:
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure 2
And...
REZ.
TOY COMMANDER
Another personal favorite of mine, and a definite hidden gem for all you RPG fans, is a Dreamcast game called Silver:
If you can still find it somewhere, it's well worth it, if you're looking for a retro style RPG with a good story and interesting gameplay.
(and of course, it will be uploaded somewhere as well, so if your Dreamcast accepts burnt discs, you could also download it)
The general scores are rather average and/or variable (Gamespot 5,8/10, IGN 7,9/10), but it's in the all-time top 25 Dreamcast games on Den of Geek, one of the better retro gaming/retro media sites, and they too consider it to be one of the Dreamcast's hidden gems, and I personally really enjoyed it as well, so I can easily recommend this game to any RPG fan.
@Gerald You're welcome again.
If you ever have any other questions concerning the Dreamcast or what we discussed, just give me a sign. Either put this article in your favorites or look up or make a Dreamcast related thread in the forums.
Im jus gonna say it; TOY COMMANDER I mean I agree with the titles suggested in the article too but I can’t forget this little gem and yea why not Power Stone 1 n 2 it would fit perfectly on the Switch, better than Bandai Namco’s rushed Arena brawler MyHero(GreatAnime👌🏽PoorGame) tho if neither it’s gotta be Jet Set Radio...shame tho as I never played the future version... don’t think that was released on Dreamcast
Dont forget about SEAMAN one of the weirdest games ever. AVGN did an episode about it a long time ago
No need to mention Skies of Arcadia as its been mentioned, but where is the love for Record of Lodos War??
Lack of Blue Stinger makes Dogs Bower angry.
Dreamcast, a favorite system of mine.
@WaveBoy
True. But any amount of archaic gameplay is overshadowed by the majesty of Dogs Bower.
@ThanosReXXX
AFAIR it was a PC game, and only later was ported to DC
https://www.gog.com/game/silver
Never played DC so bring all of them! But focus on the he RPGs though (for start just gives a release date for the grandias)
RIVAL SCHOOLS
I also would like to see Resident Evil Code Veronica Dreamcast version. This version has the best intro. The later ones aren't as strong imo. I want to hear ... i'm Alexia Ashford. lol.. was all gone.
@tc-senzei yes that's good too
@Kang81 indeed man. I love that game! Still playing it once a while
@Bermanator you forgot Sonic Adventure 1 as well though . Was my very first Dreamcast game. I was blown away . Though i hated the little bugs lol. But the Gamecube version was just horrible... i hated the new floor and the speed was just all over the place and it didn't feel right. Dreamcast is still the master version. Sonic Adventure 2 I had as well. Would love to replay that one
The Dreamcast never had that appeal to me. I'd rather have great new games, anyway.
Gyeeeeaghh, so many fantastic games (Even though I own them on other non-Dreamcast consoles, I would pay premium price to have either Skies of Arcadia or Rez on my Switch). Also a lot of games I never played but really wish I had. Still, you're forgetting the greatest launch game of any console ever: Pen Pen TriIcelon! Everyone loved that game, right??? Right?? Someone besides me loved that game, right?
Where is Armada? Or Ikaruga?
Shenmue 1&2 i would love that! One of the greatest games ever, next to zelda.
SF Rush 2049 and Headhunter...
@silencestones True, but that doesn't take anything away from what I said about it. And it's still in the Dreamcast top 25 on Den of Geek...
I still play with my Dreamcast, great system with great games. I hope to see a lot of them on the switch and sequels on a new Sega console maybe...
@Alucard83
Yeah, it was a great Diablo-like experience, and a plus for the Lodoss source material.
Where is Hydro Thunder and Ready to Rumble? I’d also like Sega to bring Bug, Clockwork Knight and Panzer Dragoon from the Saturn days!
Smash Tennis on the SNES is the best tennis game ever (4 player mode helps), then Mario Tennis on 3DS, then Super Tennis. That aside, the list tails off on the second page. A mini classic would still be great. Much better than the PS.
Skies of Arcadia & Power Stone anyday !
Would well my soul for skies of arcadia.
Don't why the switch hasn't gotten the remastered Shemnue games.
My faves were... in no particular order are
Soul Calibur
Project Justice
Shenmue
Capcom vs SNK 2000
Tech Romancer
Sword of the Bersek: Guts Rage
Skies of Arcadia.
Ready to Rumble Boxing.
Power Stone 2
Only noticed one typo!
"Oh, and let's not forget the appearance of Space Michael, a character based on the late Michael Jackson, who was himself a massive Sega fan, and also a massively homosexual paedophile"
Thank you, good night!
Three words: Sonic. Adventure. REMAKE.
Glad there is love for capcom vs snk 1. That is way better than the second game. The only improvement were more characters, but that's it. Too much options for the fighting style. 3 style in first game was more than enough. It kinda annoyed me. And graphics on Dreamcast are much better. Love capcom vs snk millenium fight 2000. Very good 2d graphics. Wish they used more graphics like that. Haven't seen much good 2D RPG with that graphic style. It should be the base in all 2D games this high quality. Now we got indie studio... sure they have fun games.. but lets be honest... the SNES 2D are more charming and better looking. period
Tokyo Extreme Racer, Phantasy Star Online, MvC 1&2, and Sonic Adventure would be awesome.
@Discipledoctor How there hasn't been a "Chao GO" app game already, I couldn't tell ya. Yeah, the guy retired - and? Just use the existing underlying mechanics and go from there. Ya know, like what they've been doing with current Sonic games.
I still cant believe I'll have Shenmue 1, 2 & 3 in my PC collection in a few months. So those I do not really need.
Would love a new Skies of Arcadia or JetSet radio on Switch... JetSet art style is perfect for the Switch.
REZ would need to be VR. One of the Few games I played on PSVR, and it just blew me away. Only way I would pay money for it again.
....Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 say hi?
Although I'd rather see ports of the DX and 2 Battle remasters (the GameCube versions specifically instead of the worse 7th gen ports) as opposed to standard SEGA AGES ports
Shenmue is a must.
But my joke inclusion has to be Yukawa's Treasure Hunt. I'm proud to say I own it but I haven't got the foggest what it's about.
@Agramonte I was planning on getting Shenmue III on PC but then they made it Epic Games Store exclusive at the very last minute after promising a Steam release for years on end
@Damo What glitches? Sonic Adventure has no glitches, you must be thinking about one of Dr. Robotnik's nefarious traps! If you fall into the wrong trap you might have to reset the game.
I recall Daytona controlling pretty well after some tweaking in the options. I really like the way that game plays on the DC, though the CPU seems a lot tougher than on the Saturn.
I see it as an honorable mention, but Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram is an excellent game for DC. And it is gorgeous in 480p, even today. I remember reading that, at least for Japan, the Virtual On games were being released for PS4, so at least the series has been offered again to those interested in playing the games today.
Sega Bass Fishing- could use the Labo fishing rod or I'd buy a new peripheral, or 8bitdo could make an adapter to hook up my Dreamcast fishing rod to Switch. Also since Wave Race has been a dormant franchise, Hydro Thunder would be a nice consolation prize.
@BlueBlur101 Gotcha. I'm a backer and did PC - for me It does not really matter on what launcher it is on in the end. I just want a "PC key".
Ubisoft don't want us to buy their games on Steam either. I go wherever the publishers go. I have Metro Exodus, Control and now Borderlands 3 in a few days on EPIC. Not had a problem with it.
Also mostly using GreenManGaming to buy my PC games, that way no need to keep track if on Steam, Uplay or Epic. Or use different checkouts.
@tillyboo I was looking for this. That was such a great game with friends.
Skies of Arcadia would be a day one purchase for me.
I remember having this on release day I was blown away! The games I loved most was shadowman, powerstone, soul caliber, killer instinct, skies of Arcadia and sonic but there were so many. Man I’d be happy to get the back catalogue or even if they wanted a subscription to play all their games, I would!
Happy birthday to the system that Sega doesn't want anything to do with anymore otherwise they would had release a Dreamcast Collection for the Switch. The only four Dreamcast related games we got on Switch atm are Street Fighter III which were on the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Garou: Mark of the Wolves which is part of HAMSTER NeoGeo release, Ikaruga which is a great shooter but was more faithful to the GameCube version, and the recent released Grandia II HD remastered which is bundle with Grandia 1 HD. C'mon Sega give me my Jet Grind Radio and Skies of Arcadia HD Remastered.
@gloom @stuie1234 Fur Fighters was my favorite, too!
In a fit of nostalgia, I recently got it for the PC and play it on my Win7 machine. What a classic...sadly overlooked, in my opinion.
Here is the full list of dreamcast games I want on the Switch:
I'm always down for more retro/classic support! Dreamcast was that weird console I didn't know about at the time that I saw at my cousin's house and was shocked by. I don't know how but I never heard of it until after it was out. I don't remember anyone at school talking about it. We were all still arguing over N64 and PS1.
Best version of Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Where's San Francisco Rush 2049?!
Seaman was a wonderful game
-1 for not saying Sword of the Berserk or Sonic Adventure but still a good list 😉
GREAT LIST!!! I would've added Capcome vs SNK 2 and Vampire Chronicle for Matching Service as other fighting games (i THINK they were Japan only), and also I'd add Alone in the Dark the New Nightmare and Carrier for survival horror!!! Also... Psychic Force was pretty sick!!!
@Agramonte it's not that I don't like the epic Games store but I feel like they promote unhealthy competition by snatching up games that were premptively announced for steam and making them permanently exclusive to their storefront to further glorify their store as having variety
That and the EGS still lacks features that have become standards on other PC game storefronts like cloud saves (they only just added preloading as a reactionary move to the protests around Borderlands 3)
Awful list really.
@kepsux You forgot the Switch doesn't have a microphone
“Rez has been ported to other systems since then, including the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and – more recently – PlayStation VR and even smartphones.”
Smartphones? When?!
@Agramonte The first 2 Shenmue games were really a revelation to me when I played them as a kid. Among my favorite games for many years, even though I don’t think they’ve aged that well.
I’m going to hold off on getting 3 until I read some reviews. One thing I still like about the first 2 games, is the sleuthing and finding your way around, as opposed to the modern open world cliche of putting all places of interest as dots on a minimap. I hope they keep that aspect the same.
San Fransisco Rush 2049 has incredible 60fps graphics and is fun!
Ooga Booga is incredibly fun and would be perfect on Switch! It targets 60fps but has a fair amount of drops, which could hopefully be fixed on Switch. But Ooga Booga is just a super fun multiplayer battle game that needs rereleased!
The Legacy of Kain game that was released on PS1 and Dreamcast should also be released on Switch. If they could complete it and add all the stuff back in that would be sweet. Digital Foundry retro has a great video about the game. It targeted 60fps on Dreamcast. I remember how blown away I was when I saw it running on my TV!
This sites garbage... no PSO?!
I want to see an updated version of Armada!
D2 and Carrier! And let's not forget Quake!
Just give me Skies of Arcadia again. I will keep eating that re-release slop with a smile every time they do it.
@NotTelevision Yeah, some are still on the fence. I can understand that. For me it is like HomeWorld 3. There is no way I am not jumping in on day 1... they like defining moments of my gaming life 😃
I think the "Guided Mode" and "Exploration Mode" in Assassin Creed Odyssey is the way to go when it comes to Waypoints
Every player can choose if they want them or not.
I played the Ghost Recon BreakPoint Demo this weekend. And they doing the same thing.
@bombjack Agreed. Why would you bloody port the dreamcast version when the arcade version is just sitting there waiting for M2.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, please.
JEDI POWER BATTLES!!! — remake please!!!
This is a good list, but no Zombie Revenge? It can be shoved then. Also lacking MDK and its fantastic sequel.
@Agramonte Good to hear that aspect of game design is being phased out. I might give Odyssey a shot when it gets around 20 bucks. Wasn’t super impressed with Origins, but I like Greek history a lot and I like that it includes a hands off option.
Honestly, I am amazed Dynamite Cop made this list. It's one of my favorite Dreamcast games, but it's just so weird I wouldn't expect it to make a list like this.
Could use more shmups. We've already gotten several of the Dreamcast's best--Ikaruga, Gunbird 2, Zero Gunner 2 (despite the issues in the Switch version), etc--but I'd love to see Giga Wing, Giga Wing 2, and Mars Matrix get re-released. Though I have no idea who even owns the rights to Takumi's catalogue these days. Border Down would also be incredible to see a re-release.
The first Capcom vs. SNK has way better music and stages than the second game. That car wreck stage for crying out loud! This and MVC2 were so freaking solid.
TOY COMMANDER, people!!!!
Shenmue 1&2 HD, just port them already!!!
@Bermanator I'm not a huge Sonic fan but the Dreamcast had the best Sonic games. Why they weren't on here is beyond me. Skies, Soul Calibur and Power Stone were awesome. And Shenmue was life changing....but to play Shenmue 1&2 again and not have resolution would be heartbreaking all over again.
@RasandeRose yah but I want closure!
Sonic Adventure 1 was brilliant and should be here.
I don't understand peoples obsession with 2, it was an awful mess with the goodies vs the baddies, someone shoot me
What a great time it was!
Very sad that it happened this way to Dreamcast
It really was a window to the future gaming for me. More than 3do, PsOne or N64
Sega Dreamcast is just not a console for me. No RPGs, just action games. But I would love to play Skies of Arcadia for the first time.
Oy oy! Where's Seaman and the Sonic Adventure games???
Yes to all of these!
@tillyboo YES! Oh man what a phenomenal game that was! You never see it in these lists which is a travesty haha Bring back Toy Commander!
Worth mentioning that any port of Crazy Taxi almost definitely wouldn't have Offspring or Bad Religion on the soundtrack, entirely changing the experience of playing those games
@bombjack It had a code that made it run at 60FPS Worked amazingly well.
Change frame rate to 60fps
Press Up, A, Down (x2), Left, Right, B (x2), Down at the title screen. (A tone confirms correct entry.)
Man, a Dreamcast Collection would be awesome.
No love for these Dreamcast games?
Ecco the Dolphin
Record of Lodoss War (Diablo style ARPG)
How about some Naomi games like the arcade version of Jambo Safari
Jet Set Radio is wonderfully unique and inventive, but actually playing it in 2019 is a bit of an ordeal.
Also, the soundtrack is ear torture.
Phantasy Star Online Phantasy Star Online Phantasy Star Online Phantasy Star Online Phantasy Star Online Phantasy Star Online !!!
Zombie Revenge for me - Great hidden gem!
Canon Spike (sells for ridiculous amounts of money now), Last Bronx, Fighting Vipers 1 + 2, Powerstone 1+2, Crazy Taxi 1 + 2 (with the original soundtracks, ie sort out the licensing issues). Most of the Capcom games, DoA collection, Soul Calibur 1 + 2, most of the JRPG's, Sonic Adventure 1 + 2 (find a way to replicate raising Chaos on the VMU!), Jet Set Radio (but Future), Sega Rally 2 (M2 to handle ALL first party Sega emulation), Daytona USA... Hell just release everything and let people cherry pick.
It was/still is an amazing console. I still have my DC (and Saturn) hooked up to the TV (and still have all the lids for my VMUs!!)
JET SET RADIO SEGA PLEAS!!! I So F*cking love this game!
@Dr_Corndog Really ear torture? I didn't expect you to say that.
In my opinion the soundtrack was one of the best parts of the game.
The Dreamcast has such a great library considering its short console lifespan. For mine I built up my collection to nearly 50 games, there was at least another 10 to 15 which were of interest also....
Unfortunately I sold the lot, wish I hadn't now. Strangely I didn't sell the console, so I have the console but no games.... In time I might have to start to build up a collection again.
Pen Pen TriIcelon was so good, the game disc eventually broke from over-use. One game I would really like to play again
Am I the only one who wants an Armada remake? An Asteroids RPG?
MSR was one of my favourite games - I was living in London at the time, so driving around familiar streets was awesome. Strangely, I’d always assumed I’d played it on my PS2, so was surprised it was a Dreamcast exclusive - memory is a funny thing
I think omitting Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 because in your opinion "they suck" when the title of your article isn't "20 games I'd like to see on the Switch" it's "20 games we'd like to see on the Switch". We. Plural.
I don't believe for one minute that everyone at Nintendo's life shares Damien's opinion that these games were garbage. There's no "I" in "we".
There's a reason that so many Sonic fans want a SA3. They may have aged fairly poorly, but in all honesty, a lot of early 3d games have. I see people all the time saying how amazing Banjo Tooie was on the n64 but go back without those rose tinted glasses and you'll see a stuttering slideshow mess of a game at times. Is it still incredible now? No. Was it in 2000? Yeah. My point is this doesn't take away or detract from how enjoyable they were at the time.
Yes please to Dreamcast and Saturn ports.
The best game on iOS is/was Tony Hawk pro skater 2 port, some of the other best ever, Chu Chu rocket, Jet Set radio, Crazy Taxi original, all ports, all pulled/ not updated. And all better, so so so much better than any "NEW" games on iOS and these are all 10-15+? year old games. I gave up on iOS games after they where all pulled/not updated. And yes I already bought them on ps3 and iOS. and would again for switch. CHU CHU ROCKET !!!!!!!!!!
@mrmememan the dreamcast didn't have a microphone either. this is just opportunity to sell us more plastic stuffs!
@kepsux I ment to say it would probably be hard to get a microphone on the Switch
BLUE STINGER!!! The game was great fir its time. Very mysterious and not so easy.
I would love to see Power Stone 1 & 2 come to the Switch. I clocked a lot of time with the second entry just trying to complete all the item synthesis recipes(note: don't use the Light Stone you get from as a gift until you have multiples from the Adventure mode)and the first Power Stone the VMU games were nice.
I'd like to see aerowings
