The Pokémon Company has shared the tiniest of teases confirming that Generation 4 Pokémon are headed to the ever-popular Pokémon GO.
Fans have been asking for the next generation of monsters - which originally appeared in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl - for quite a while now, and the most observant players have also noticed that we should be receiving the new collection soon (if previous trends and generations gaps are anything to go buy). Sure enough, they were right.
On top of this, several tweaks to game balance will also be introduced. Here are all the changes you can expect to notice:
- Moving forward, the weather feature will have a reduced effect on the rate at which Pokémon appear.
- As you explore a given area, you will notice that a greater variety of Pokémon species will appear over time and at different rates.
- Certain areas, such as parks and nature reserves, will now contain more varied Pokémon species.
- CP values will be adjusted going forward to improve game balance.
- HP values will be adjusted to close the gap between Pokémon with high and low HP.
- Pokémon Defense and Stamina values will be rebalanced, allowing Pokémon with high defensive stats to be valuable by outlasting opponents in battle rather than these Pokémon merely taking too long to defeat.
- Defense values have also been slightly reduced for most Pokémon. Changes like these will help narrow the gap between Pokémon with the highest defensive stats and other Pokémon.
No extra details surrounding the exact release date for the next generation has been confirmed just yet, so make sure to keep checking back for more information. We'll make sure to update you when we know more.
Are you ready for a whole new adventure?

I read that as Pikmin 4 confirmed for Switch.
Oh thank goodness, this was taking far too long.
Can anyone recommend the Pokemon to stock up on for future Gen4 evolution?
Nice to know devs keep working hard to improve GO continuously. There's just one thing to do: let's keep playing it

@JackTako
Look up anything in Gens 1/2/3 that has an evolution in Gen 4.
This is quite late to be asking this though because many players have been preparing for over a year.
Off the top of my head, Swinub, Roselia, Eevee, Magnemite, Magmar, Electabuzz, Rhyhorn, Sneasel, Duskull, Ralts. There are more, some aren't worth mentioning for having very poor stats though.
@GrailUK same
@GrailUK @Rontanamo_Bay If Pikmin 4 ever arrives you'll definitely know about it.
I will personally slap an entire essay on the home page with celebratory klaxons and fireworks for all to see.
Maybe now game freak will actually realize that my favourite Pokémon actually exists and finally make merch of it.
@ryancraddock
Or you could make it as ambiguous as possible to fool the Let's Go players (it's only fair)
'Let's Go! The Fourth Generation of Pikmin, skipping past mobile phones and Switching to console.'
@AxeltheBuizel I agree, Toxicroak deserves more attention.
Oh, you mean Buizel. Nevermind. I'll sit in the corner wishing Toxicroak gets the attention he deserves in future. Even his pre-evolution is more popular.
But when will "soon" be now?
I just realized that the inevitable gen IV remake will probably be on Switch!! Imagine!!
Hopefully Linked to let's go
My favorite region! I wish you could transfer them to Pokemon let's go.
Me 3, or is it 4, or 5, on reading the headline as Pikmin 4. I'm blaming the pic. Surely there are other Pokemon that don't look like Pikmin. Nintendo Life should have Never Gonna Give You Up playing all the time as their background music we can't switch off. Well except for all the Amazon ads posing as articles, they can play the Amazon jingle, whatever that is.
@NinjaWaddleDee I might actually play Pokémon Go if I can use a Buizel in Let's Go
I for one cannot wait for Bidoof to replace Zigzagoon and Whismur as the ‘how many?’ Pokemon.
Finally, there have been so many hints & opportunities for Niantic to drop Gen 4 most of us will probably just explode from the relief rather than excitement. The Kanto event was obviously a thinly veiled way of newer players getting their Gen 1 before it becomes sidelined for the new 'mon.
@AxeltheBuizel I'm sure you could use a Buizel in Let's Go.. the question is should you use a Buizel.
@ryancraddock Should we be expecting a cheeky little article on which Pokémon's candy to emergency stockpile? Also wondering if you play yourself?
@RadioHedgeFund I'm already bored with Bidoof & it's not even released yet.
@DanteSolablood I do play myself, yes. 🙂
I believe an article of that description may well be in the works, but you'd have to ask our guides master about that one!
Woop woop! As a collector, this news pleases me
Meh. Stick to the 150 true Pokemon.
@ryancraddock Thanks for your reply!
I'm glad to hear that you play yourself, while it wouldn't necessary change the (excellent) quality of your reporting on Pokémon Go, I personally find it reassuring. I'm now tempted to have an "achievement off" with our badges... but I'm sure you have things to do.
@Euler Oh, the true 150 Pokémon? So that's Gen 3 then. Good to hear.
I got exited when I see the thumbnail and instantly thought of a new pikmin but then then slumped back down when I read the header about Pokemon.
@GrailUK exactly the same.
Just nerf Chansey and Blissey please. Really tired of every single gym having both.
Hopefully I'll be bothered to give a damn about GO again, but what with weather nearing wintertime, unless we find out post-release that Let's Go does in fact have all Pokémon in the game's code, I'll give this gen a pass.
Still working on my Gen 3 Pokedex, but I'm glad to see a fresh supply coming soon.
@JackTako I think rhiperior, don't know if that's how you spell it, but it's the one after rhydon. I think that should be a must have for gen 4 gyms.
