Auroch Digital has released a brand new trailer for Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics, the turn-based strategy game headed to Switch later this year.
The trailer has been shared to coincide with the game's Steam release date announcement, where the title will be available on 4th October; console versions are still set to arrive "later in 2018", however. The game is a World War II-themed strategic role-playing game which sees players take control of an army of Allied heroes trapped behind enemy lines. Drawing from the Achtung! Cthulhu roleplaying universe developed by Modiphius, the game tasks you with trying to uncover and foil a Nazi plot of "terrifying evil".

If you were hoping for a handy feature list and a bunch of lovely screenshots, you've come to the right place.
Features:
- Tactical Combat: direct a squad of allied heroes in innovative turn-based ground battles.
- Momentum System: perform well in combat by racking up kills and executing critical hits to earn Momentum and turn the tide of battle in your favour.
- Light vs Dark: harness the power of the light to expose and suppress the spawn of Cthulhu hiding in wait in the oppressive darkness.
- AP System: every decision is important and the Action Point System gives you the flexibility to put as much emphasis into heavy combat or nimble movement as you like.
- Psychological System: witness too many horrors of war and watch as your unit's sanity begins to unravel mid-fight.
- Build Your Team: characters have unique skills that can be unlocked and levelled up in different ways, and weapons can be modified to give a variety of benefits. This lets you customise your squad to better vanquish Nazi scum.
- Weird World War: explore the Lovecraft-meets-WW2 universe of Achtung! Cthulhu like never before with Mythos-inspired enemies and a story-driven campaign handcrafted by John Houlihan which ties directly into the pen and paper roleplaying game narrative.
What do you think? Will you be keeping an eye out for this one when it arrives in the coming months? Tell us below.

This looks really cool!
Looks great!
Does this have anything to do with Cthulhu?
Otherwise I am bored by the theme.
Tell history or tell an exaggerated story. But both don't go to well together, for me.
@Tiefseemiez It does. The board game is amazing and blends WW2 with the occult rather well. The story campaign of an American battalion suddenly finding themselves between occult Nazi's and the deep ones was really fun to play.
@Mrrabbitpuncher
Alright, thanks! If the plot is similarly stupid to the one in Codename: Steam, it might be right up my alley regarding that!
@Tiefseemiez I was wondering if it (or it's predecessor) has any relation to H.P. Lovecraft myself, or just a codename of some Nazi thing, wouldn't be a big deal either way, just curious
Would be nice to have some good tactic game on Switch aside of Rabbids. This is perfect genre for this type of console
I am so ready for more games like this to start showing up on switch. I love turn based action like this. I'm still holding out hope Firaxis will port XCOM one of these days.
The more I watched the trailer, the more I'm liking, those hints of tentacles and the mysterious shadow in the background at the end, will there be an involvement with the dark lord of fear or is it just a metaphor for Nazi control? can't wait to see
@cherryghost41 (the original) Final Fantasy Tactics on PSX was a great one also if you've never heard or played it.
I loved Mega Man 2, one of my favorite of the MM franchise, but damn, the artist who came up with the box art should have been shot, LOL
@jhewitt3476 Yeah the boxart is not great, but reminds me of playing the game as a kid. Mega Man 2 was one of my first video games. Brings back good memories.
This looks really cool. I hope we get more SRPGs in the future!
was expecting it to look more fantasy like
This seems like something I could really dive into. I love (in)sanity influencing my games, replayed Eternal Darkness recently, and I'm really hoping Call of Cthulhu gets an updated Switch version. And I love turn-based strategy set around a small squad, as long as it doesn't make the characters feel too... distant, I guess. I want close-ups, overall good camera work, some direct control,... Codename STEAM was a good example actually.
Something between that, Eternal Darkness, Xcom, Valkyria Chronicles, Rainbow Six, and Sniper Elite.
