Following yesterday’s announcement The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would crossover with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Capcom has now confirmed its own Breath of the Wild DLC for Monster Hunter XX will be made available in the western version of the title - Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.
The upcoming Switch release is due out on August 28th and is an expansion to Monster Hunter Generations on the 3DS. If you’ve played the previous title, you’ll be able to transfer your save data to the new release and continue playing as the same hunters.
The DLC will allow your character to wear the Champion’s Tunic, and Felyne can also be dressed as Korok. This DLC is one of the many Breath of the Wild crossovers, with titles like Skyrim also receiving exclusive Zelda-themed content.
Tell us in the comments if you’ll be dressing up as Link when Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate arrives on the Switch next month.

Blimey!
I forgot about the Korok thing, I should go ahead and grab that.
Zelda Day confirmed!
i do like me some Monster Hunter announcements. august is gonna be the hardest to choose.. (this or Monster Hunter: World or WarioWare gold or WoW)
Are Monster Hunter games any good solo? I always hear people talk about playing with others
I think Link (BOTW version) has exploited too much.
Not a bad things, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Monster Hunter Generation Ultimate also have Link BOTW costumes.
Animal Crossing New Leaf Welcome Amiibo has Link BOTW costumes.
And what's Next ?
Link costumes for Pikachu / Eevee for Let's Go ?
Link BOTW as Hidden Challenger on Sushi Striker ?
Link BOTW as New character on Mario Tennis Aces ?
Link BOTW costumes for Captain Toad ?
And don't tell me Go Vacation, ARMS, and every single Nintendo games will have it too.
@Anti-Matter
I think it would be hilarious if he would make a guest appearance in every Nintendo game , optional free dlc of course.
I say bring it on. It would be like a running joke to incorporate him into the games.
@Anti-Matter I’m not overly fussed. It’s all just been light cosmetic stuff. Helps that it’s been free too and not DLC locked to preorders and the like.
Oh my gosh look at the Korok kitty!
@zonks
Monster Hunter is THE BEST solo! And it's the best with others! No really, it's an even split 50/50. Some people play the games all the way through completely solo, while others play the games only online with others, and others do both.
That's one of the best things about Monster Hunter- it doesn't matter if you want to play solo off-line or completely online or both back and forth, the game has you covered. Even if I never played a single hunt online, it would still be my favorite game ever.
But in my honest opinion I do think it is more fun with others. It's just so incredibly fun already as a single player experience that you don't really need to.
@Anti-Matter I don’t know I would say “too much” your two examples are still new , actually one hasn’t happened yet and one happened yesterday
@Fist_of_Belial Fixed!
Link is on a new adventure!
My body is ready!!!!!!
(Also dat Korok outfit is cuuuuute. Wish it made the tingling sound as well.)
blah blah blah Crapcom
An interesting bit of DLC. Appreciated, but unnecessary. Gamers who are interested in MHGU were already committed.
Man that is dating to look dated. I forgave the first trailer but man that really is.
@N8tiveT3ch that’s very interesting. I’ve never seen those words in that order before. Was it randomly generated?
@Trickbaby14 smaller keyboard and I've been drinking. Whoops.
@zonks I play solo most of the time on my 3DS, still love it.
Certainly more enjoyable if you can play with friends but the game is still pretty fun when soloing monsters by yourself.
@Anti-Matter If Link were a character in Aces, I’d play it even more! A Hylian shield racket with a Master Sword handle? Yes, please.
@HobbitGamer
And then Ganondorf Castle as the place, Bokoblins are the supporters, Princess Zelda as the guest star and...... Tingle as a referee.
@Anti-Matter To be fair, Monster Hunter has a history of having crossovers with other games and series. The original MH Generations had both Link and Samus outfits. The MH series has had obtainable costumes from games/anime like Animal Crossing, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, and One Piece, among many others.
@Anti-Matter He's coming to Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze next as 'Linky Kong'.
I joke but I do agree with you. I was thinking the same thing when reading this article. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Link costume appear in Fortnite next.
@OorWullie
Linky Kong ?!
Good heavens - just look at those textures. This is just embarrassing next to the Final Fantasy XIV's Behemoth crossover for MHW. At least that has actual new content - like a Boss and new enemies.
Capcom just needs to let this go and make an actual new MH for the Switch.
@Anti-Matter Don't forget the BotW Link costume available in Skyrim when you scan his amiibo, as well as being the new default version of Link in Smash Bros. Ultimate (though I can understand why). It's a great game, but I definitely had the same thought as you that all this Breath of the Wild cross-promotional stuff is getting a bit... excessive. That being said, if Nintendo wants to let me explore and collect Power Moons on the Great Plateau and possess Bokoblins in Super Mario Odyssey, I would throw all the money in the world at that DLC!
I miss when exclusive Nintendo themed DLC was all Mario hats.
@Spectra They are both important for me (and we finally have a handheld that can make it happen). So is not having to sit for 4 loading screens to get to your kill.
Yes it would. And I really think it is coming. Capcom first need to pretend they were not completely wrong about the Switch and a year behind 😏
@zonks Yeah they are still very satisfying to play solo (I play most of my MH on my commute to/from work), pretty much the only time I play online now is when I jump on to help out newer players with tough quests
@Spectra That is when you pretend you taking the long way to admire the scenery 😅
Yeah, an announcement by year end what I think also. In some big Nintendo Direct to set up 2019 with a new MH, Metroid, FE and Pokemon - Good times.
This is just HORRIBLE !
I have PS2 games that looks better than that thingy. It's an insult in 2018 to have "the guts" to show a trailer like that !
And there is another stuff to point.
By letting Capcom doing THAT with BOTW, it's the entire image of the last Zelda game that goes down.
It's really sad even to see how Nintendo literally wring its licences to make more and more money.
It was already disgusting in Skyrim and now in MH.
Anybody with a small knowledge in artstyle knows that there is something wrong, something that doesn't fit at all.
Can't wait, now can some one tell me how you get it? Rock hard Arena quest maybe?
Tho I'd rather have native chat as DLC capcom!
Are people honestly criticizing graphics in MHGU (a 3DS port with upped resolution and maybe framerate)? Is this the audience that shallow and barebones MHW was targeted at?
@Preposterous I second this
@Preposterous
Did you ever play Resident Evil Revelations ? A 3DS port on lastgen systems ?
Let me tell you that it was well made. Not like that atrocious thingy MHGU is...
@Cobalt I played in on 3DS. MHGU wasn't made with Switch in mind, it's just a side project that even Capcom themselves didn't really expect to do very well (they were satisfied even with pretty small sales in Japan).
Yeah, it's not the most visually stunning experience on Switch, but it's still an amazing game, probably one of the best on the market when it comes to content-price ratio and most likely a reason why a lot of people in the west got Switch in the first place.
Dedicated MH for Switch will most likely utilise 100% of the console's potential, just like it was the case with MH games on 3DS.
@Preposterous
Ok but god, is it to much to ask a game with AT LEAST a Wii U visual like MH3U ?
What Capcom does, it's simply what they already started from the start with the Switch : THEY DON'T CARE !
I keep thinking about this game, can please someone tell me what these monsters did that deserved to be killed?
@Cobalt But MH3U had pretty much the same visuals, if not worse, since that was an upscaled 3DS game as well. Your memory is playing tricks on you.
@Preposterous
Hummm, if you wanna say that MH3U wasn't incredible visually speaking OK but I'm sorry, for a game of 2011(2013 on WiiU) it's better than MHGU in 2018.
7 years in between the 2 titles, 7 YEARS !
An another point, the Switch has better SPECS than the Wii U too... sooooo.
Insane !
@Cobalt It's essentially a 2015 game (MHX, but with more content) released on the same console as that 2011 game. You were already told it wasn't developed with Switch specs in mind. Please, learn to read, because at this point you're making a fool out of yourself.
@Preposterous
If I have to learn to read, learn to think then, buddy.
Switch in mind or not, that doesn't change anything.
I take again the exemple of Resident Evil Revelations, a 3DS game with no WiiU/PS360 in mind BUT they worked on the port to make it looks good on HD systems.
Now, the way MHGU looks it's simply atrocious BECAUSE the don't really worked the original assets.
Easy money on the fan's back, that's only what they want ! PERIOD !
@Cobalt Nope, they all look great to me
I like all this DLC, playing as my favorite character from my favorite game in other great games is perfect!
Do Zelda characters/costumes have to appear in everything now or something? I mean, in the last few years: Super Smash Bros, Super Mario Maker, Bayonetta, Mario Kart 8, Monster Hunter Stories, Miitopia, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Skyrim, Monster Hunter 4, Monster Hunter X, Yoshi's Woolly World, Nintendo Land, Fatal Frame 5, Phantasy Star. It's kind of losing its novelty now... It's like "Link, you don't have to keep showing up everywhere..."
It blows my mind that people are so excited about an old port of a 3DS game more than a year after the release of the Switch.
Specially when there is a newer game released.
Capcom should be developing a new game only for the Switch if it truly cannot handle the MH World game not keeping shoving old games every time.
Why are so many comparing this to the new Monster Hunter World? This is the classic original Monster Hunter gameplay that still has millions of fans.
And on that case, isn't this the best looking classic Monster Hunter game or are the graphics not as good as the Wii U version? Because from what I remember, on Wii it was one of the best-looking games, and on Wii U it looked gorgeous in HD with enhancements, so what's the problem with the graphics in the Switch version?
From what I know, this is the ultimate classic Monster Hunter game, just like Smash for Switch proceeding to be the ultimate (classic) Smash game.
@tourjeff it's a port of a game that was never previously released in English and that adds a ton of content that we couldn't play before without learning Japanese.
I certainly hope Capcom is making a new MH game for switch but I'm glad to be able to play this in the meantime.
@SKTTR people complained about MH being on the 3ds too and how horrible it looked, blah blah blah
And I enjoyed the hell out of those games because the gameplay is so good and meeting up with friends to play together is awesome. That's why I'm excited about mhgu
@Cobalt
“By letting Capcom doing THAT with BOTW, it's the entire image of the last Zelda game that goes down.”
That’s dramatic. I suppose Mario Odyssey’s image will be ruined too cause Mario’s on a box of crappy cereal.
“It's really sad even to see how Nintendo literally wring its licences to make more and more money.
It was already disgusting in Skyrim and now in MH.”
There was nothing wrong with Skyrim adding BotW content. Pretty soon you find better equipment anyway, so you can just display the gear in one of your houses. I don’t see what’s so disgusting about that.
@Francema well there is usually a barebones story about monsters attacking a village, but for the most part you're killing them to make weapons and armor out of them.
I thought the same as you the first time I played MH. Why am I killing these poor creatures. Then you get into the game, they attack you and you respond.
I wouldn't analyze it too much, as the game never takes itself very seriously. If you're looking for a deep story with complex motivations and moral questions, you won't find that in MH. What you will find is an amazing action game with deep combat mechanics.
You might just as well ask, what did all those poor Goombas do to get squashed by that nasty, vicious Mario?
...somedays I wish I liked this series. The Sailor Moon DLC is pushing me to buy a game I don't even like.
@MoonKnight7
The VISUALS ! God that fakeness which killed my eyes, the 2 univers don't fit together at all !
One use a "cartonish" artsyle, the other one tries to be realistic.
"The Zelda touch" looks dirty as hell with the Skyrim style, it's the opposite of the original creation. Ridiculous !
@Cobalt
You certainly grasp on bizarre things to cause a major fuss about. For what it was, it looked absolutely fine in Skyrim.
It’s just a “huh, neat” moment then you store it away or display it. Bethesda got the idea to bring Skyrim to the switch because of BotW’s open world ambition, so consider it a form of flattery if nothing else.
@Preposterous very true. MHXX Switch Ver. was just a quick upgrade to act as a stopgap, and especially since they were gearing up to promote MHW.
I suppose the main reason why people are griping about MHGU looking dated is because it's 2018. Had it come out in mid-2017, there would have been far fewer complaints. (And this is my main issue with Capcom delaying MHGU this long. It just attracts more negative comments.)
Ultimately (no pun intended) though, fans of the series have been waiting for this and will most likely play it (I know myself and all my friends will! I pre-downloaded it, already.) The people complaining are likely not going to be buying it, anyway.
To everyone complaining: As long as there is no other MH game on the Switch, this is the best we have. Hopefully there will be a more modern MH coming soon, but for now us hungry fans will have to make do with this. (And I'm completely fine with that. Looking forward to hunting "Jet Magala" soon.)
@Spectra That is up to each - I play them all and done more thn "look at scenery"in MHW... super looking forward to fight Behemoth on August 1st 🙂
Yeah, E3 was a one trick pony show. I really hope so, I don't really play fighting games.
@tedko I know it was only available in Japan which is really weird as Capcom should have released it worldwide last year, before the MH World to avoid comparisons.
Now, they will charge it full price for a game that, in my opinion, is not worth anymore.
As I said before, they should stop to treat the Switch as a port machine and invest in new content/games.
That applies to all Devs.
@tourjeff I agree with all that. I would have preferred that they release gen u last year, and I don't think it should be sold at full price, but I'm not going to complain. I'm still happy it is being released here and am happy to have a MH on switch to play local multi-player.
My only fear is that poor sales of generations u will stop Capcom from making a new one for switch. But I actually think that there is already a new switch MH in development. I have nothing to back that up with, but it seems crazy to me that they wouldn't. Japan loves portable MH.
Nice to see Capcom still support the Wii by releasing games on it !
...oh wait...
@tedko Thanks for the advice and LOL. Still undivided about this but it is one of the few AAA titles that I am not fully aware of the premise. As regards evil Mario, I guess that goon as are paying the price for following direct order of their boss, Bowser.
@tourjeff
1 it's more than a port- it has the G Rank expansion which for most people into the series is what the game is all about
2 that expansion has never been localized in the west so nobody has played it yet, and those that did had to play it in another language, like me
3 The other game that came out is already old news and most people have already played it- I was done with that game by February, because it didn't have any good end-game content
4 we all hope for a new game on Switch, but until that day comes anyone who loves the series is going to be all over this game.
Not only is it the expansion we've never played and has never been released in the west, but it's the first time we can play portable Monster Hunter in HD. I don't know about you but I don't think I could take another entry on 3DS in 240p. This game looks absolutely gorgeous on the Switch screen in comparison. And this is the first time you can take a portable system with you and prop it up in table top mode and detach controllers and get a console style experience of Monster Hunter anywhere you go.
So ya. That's why people are excited. It's portable Monster Hunter, in HD, with new G Rank expansion, on a comfortable portable system with full Button set and rumble, with the ability to play on a television without buying a second copy of the game for a second console and using a convoluted save transfer app.
Why wouldn't people will be excited for that. That's a major step forward for those who love the series, and it's 600 hours of awesome hunting in the biggest game ever released in the series to date. If you love Monster Hunter, this is one of the most hype games releasing all year. My brother got into the series with World, but like me he finished the game in less than a month and needed something else to play. So he started MH4U on 3DS. When they announced this game was coming to Switch he was beside himself with excitement. We are going to be hunting together every day after work via local wireless. It's a game he's never played and I've never fully played the G rank, and I can just import my saved data and pick up where I left off, so I don't even have to start over. I can just equip some low rank armor to hunt with him until he catches up to where I'm at.
@tedko Well it is Capcom. And I also think MH works better on portable and with the Switch having the convenience of both tv/portable,I think it'd sell really well. The sales numbers on the 3ds games were great overall
Not sure I have the time to put into a Monster Hunter game which is a shame, it looks fun.
@Cobalt You're comparing two completely different games with completely different goals. One is a game playing out mostly in tight corridors and ultimately, with not many assets, the other is a game with the most content in the entire series. One was ported to multiple system with a sequel in mind, the other would be brought over only to Switch. At this point you might as well get your panties in a twist over something like Romancing SaGa 2 or Metal Slug not getting a total makeover on Switch just because it could handle it.
It's the ignorant who are the loudest and you're a perfect example of that.
The only upgrade that should happen with MHGU is bringing it up to solid 60 fps, since it's not going to feature co-op play with western versions of MHGU on 3DS anyway.
@Preposterous
That's true I'm an ignorant ! Developers are known to be dumb compare to "expert players" in term of game technical points...
I leave you peacefully inside your bubble of beliefs, I still have a lot of work to do.
@PlayedNSlayed yeah, I guess you never know with Capcom, but it just seems like a no-brainer to me. Make it and it will sell
Thumbs up.
@Cobalt
You don't have any ps2 games that look better than that since nothing on ps2 did.
@SetupDisk
Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, Final Fantasy XII, God of War 2, Jak3 etc...
They all look better from my perspective.
@Haywired I actually kinda expect more to come from Zelda DLC especially if that means Switch would get ports of Fallout 76, Injustice 2, Soul Calibur 6, and Tekken 7.
@Preposterous Thank you. I watched the video and thought...ya graphics are dated but acceptable....as long as the game is fun. It sounds like it is fun.
@Not_Soos I'd buy that... but only if Link could fight Bowser on the moon as well.
Can't let the Italian have all the fun, now...
Anyone know if this game is confirmed to be 60 fps. There an article by gameinformer whereby the journalist claimed it to be.
The japanese version is 30fps only no?
People were super mad that it wasn't easier to get Link's green tunic. Personally I went and bought the Wind Waker amiibo. I wish they did a better job with the DLC all this one hit death was not fun Nintendo!
