The Switch eShop has played host to several quality rhythm games over the months since launch, with the likes of Voez, Thumper, and Runner3 bringing plenty of musically infused action to the hybrid. Indeed, it still feels like the genre is a little underutilized on the Switch, but that issue will soon be helped by Just Shapes & Beats, a game which got a spotlight in the Nindies Direct. The game has just been given a release date, and we fortunately won’t have to wait to much longer to take a crack at it.
Just Shapes & Beats fuses shmup elements in with the musical action, tasking you with maneuvering your shape around dangerous waves of red that pulse and rise with the soundtrack. Featuring 35 tracks, both local and online multiplayer, and a challenge mode that features randomized layouts, and it sounds like an experience that’ll be just as content rich as it is intensely difficult. Berzerk Studio just announced today that the game launches on 31st May, so be sure to keep an eye out for this one.

Online multiplayer? Didn't expect that, now if only this had a level creator, and the ability to add in your own music. TwT
There are some other games I'm interested in coming out at the end of the month like Yoku's Island Express and Ikaruga so I'm not sure what I end up getting in the end but I'm certainly getting it eventually.
This game is ripping off PS4/Vita's Sound Shapes in a good way. Together with Lumines, Switch will have the best of Sony's music games.
I'm not really into rhythm games, but I am intrigued by "mild blood". I guess your little shape getting crushed and releasing a bunch of pixels counts?
I appreciate the article namedropping Thumper, but let me just namedrop it again. It's one of the best games I've played on Switch (I've played like 20). The feeling I got when I beat that, not even Celeste could touch.
This game looks like tons of fun.
This game is AWESOME! I have played it at the last 3 PAX Easts. This will be a day one buy!
Hope it's not too expensive
Looks rad. The comments comparing it to Thumper and Sound Shapes have me stoked.
