One-man indie developer Oddly Shaped Pixels has announced that Super Rocket Shootout is headed to Nintendo Switch, releasing just next week.
The game is a frantic pixel art brawler which mixes lightning-fast platforming actions with fighting game mechanics for up to four players. Players will be able to master jetpacks to slip right behind opponents for melee-range attacks, or use shotguns, homing missiles, boomerangs and more to fight from a distance. Defence is just as important - players have to use their shield wisely, performing perfect blocks to deflect incoming attacks - and the fighting goes deeper with combos, 'Super Moves', 'Super Attacks', and counters.
Super Rocket Shootout features a story mode and local multiplayer mode (for up-to-four players), has eight playable characters with unique abilities, eight destructible stages, and various in-game achievements and unlockables. The game has been receiving positive reviews on Steam, so this could be one to watch out for.
The game is scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 5th April for $9.99 / €9.99.

I don't understand why companies use cartoon like pictures for their 8-bit art games. Sure it made sense in the 80's when all games were 8 bit and all advertising was a better quality, but it's 2018, cartoon like graphics actually appear in games. Even small indie games like Guacamelee, Shank, Castle Crashers and Awesomnauts. If a company wants to make a retro looking 8 bit game that's fine, people really seem to enjoy them, but why advertise with other graphics? Makes no sense.
Game looks like fun, kids may want to get it, I'll let them know.
I really want a fun and frantic four-player Smash-fighter on the Switch, but I'm not really flipped by the trailer for this one (and I'm not revved up by Brawlout, either). Looking forward to the duck-themed one for now but wouldn't mind a few more options. The Switch is so good for limited-button four-player quick games.
This game looks like it'll be fun and I like some of the art styles they used like the pixel fights but not a fan of the cartoon style they used or they way they made the characters look when you're selecting them. That still won't stop me from getting it though if it turns out to be worth the price and at such a low price it's pretty hard to argue.
@rjejr Shank and Guac are pretty bad examples as their art matches the graphics in game.
@PhilKenSebben My point wasn't about the graphics in the ads matching the game, it was that games, even small indie games, are capable of doing games with cartoon like graphics, but they choose to make games with 8 bit graphics, but rather than do the ads with 8 bit graphics they do the ads with cartoon like graphics. Why not make the ads match the game graphics?
@rjejr forgive me. Thought you were lumping those two in there. I need coffee.
@PhilKenSebben No problem, I'm very verbose but rarely clear in my intentions.
What happened to Pocket Rumble?!?!
