Kirby's had a bit of a hard time historically on home consoles. Kirby's Return to Dream Land went through so much developmental complications we assumed we'd never get it, and the only outing he received on Wii U was the spin-off Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.
But that's all about to change with Kirby Star Allies, so we've rifled through footage galore to bring you 26 new lovely chunks of information in the video above that might otherwise have slipped you by, including an estimated 1536x864 resolution thanks primarily to Digital Foundry's pixel counting technique.

I can't wait for this game. Being the only new first party Switch game with a concrete release date, it's got a lot riding on it for me.
still, day 1!
I don't know about the buddy system...Personally I like the single player stuff on the 3ds. I know why they did it but I find cpu AI to be annoying.
Kirby is a round pink blob, resolution could be 640x480 and he would still be a round pink blob.
Framerate does matter a bit, but I've always favored "stable & consistent" over the actual framerate. Stutter and slideshow are no goes, but anything smooth is fine.
5 more weeks? I've put off buying most games Day 1 these days due to DLC but 3DS games, besides FE, tend to come out complete, and this looks similar to those. Though I suppose if there is a season pass Nintendo will wait another 2 or 3 weeks before telling us.
But it's a new non-indie game so I'm excited.
Odd that a game like this is sub-1080p / 60fps, yet Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon manage 900p / 60fps. What am I missing?
Waiting for reviews. I’ll likely just get one of the 3DS Kirbys instead if I have an itch to play Kirby unless this ends up great.
You could be forgiven for thinking this was Return to Dreamland.
Star Allies seems to not perform well for what it is, looks significantly less creative than Planet Robobot, and appears to be designed with a focus on local multiplayer. So I'll be passing on this.
30 fps in a game like this is just stupid seeing that odyssey runs at 60 fps.. Yoshi better not be 30 fps or I'm going to lose my S***! :-/
@Emperor-Palpsy What are you talking about?
This game is SUB-900p. 900p is 1600 x 900 pixels, while 1080p is 1920 x 1080 pixels.
I haven't played a standard kirby game in a good while. Now is the time.
Kirby Epic Yarn really burned me. Never had I ever returned a game that fast before (or after)!
@Olmectron Sub-900p is obviously sub-1080p as well, so he isn't lying.
What he's saying is that Kirby should be 1080p/60fps since games like Splatoon and Mario can hit 900p/60fps without much issue.
The more i see the more i like it tho i wish you could play as just kirby
Doesn't look very appealing to me. I'll wait to find out more about Mario Tennis instead.
I've never had any interests in Kirby games (except Epic Yarn), but this looks good. A nice title to play with my girlfriend, gimme more of those.
@Geeks4Life Calm down, nothing to get all fuzzed about.
I hope this is a hardcore Kirby where he flays his enemies alive and their hides become wearable achievements. Just kidding. Eating them, stealing their essence, creating a mock simulacrum of all that they were about, and discarding their husks is cool enough as it is. I love this little pink psycopath.
Sounds line standard kirby to me
