SteamWorld Dig is one of our favourite Wii U and 3DS eShop titles so the news that we'll get the chance to play it a third time on Switch is very welcome indeed.
Image & Form's Brjann Sigurgeirsson has stated that it's coming on February 1st and will cost $9.99 in North America.
Sigurgeirsson said that he hopes bringing the original game to Switch will help fans see things have evolved when compared to the sequel. While it's certainly true that SteamWorld Dig 2 is a more ambitious game, we have a real soft spot for the first title.
What about you? Will you be downloading this one on Switch?

Nice, about time.
It's a cute game, but it might seem somewhat simple next to HEIST and DIG2.
Good to have the family together though.
Dig 2 was my favourite game of 2017.
Dig 1 was my favourite game of 2013.
Funny that Dig was always launched close to a new Zelda release: Dig in 2013 with ALBW and Dig 2 with BotW. While technically Zelda is superior, I personally enjoyed Dig more. They should have won the best Indie games award.
Physical Dig collection when?
I’m actually happy about this, despite already owning it on Wii U and 3DS. I want to play the sequel, but I never finished the original, and I don’t want to reboot the Wii U to play it or play in sand art resolution on 3DS.
Already own it on Wii U. Great game, though very short.
I'll probably grab it again just to have it there in the collection, however I don't really feel any particular desire to play it again. The sequel was much better.
Fantastic move on their part, both the original and the sequel are worth playing and it's great to have them on the same system.
Personally I won't be getting this since I already have it on 3DS and Steam, but there'll still be people who didn't play it.
Unlike its successor, you need to be a lot more careful and deliberate about how and where you dig, otherwise you can get stuck and be forced to take a death.
Now time to announce what they're working on...
Bought SWD 1 for 3DS and barely played it... bought SWD 2 for Switch and never played it... well I guess I will buy SWD 1 again for Switch and will start "really" playing it on Switch then
I’ll certainly be picking up this fine forerunner to SteamWorld Dig 2. Highly recommended to anyone that is yet to play it, SteamWorld Dig is comfortably one of my favourite indies ever!
Might double dip. Would also like to sea a SteamWorld collection with a physical release.
This seems like a great set-up for "Buy Dig2, get Dig1 free, a savings of $9.99" in light of the article we just had about a possible Dig2 cart.
And 1 of these days, I say 1 of these days (Foghorn Leghorn voice) we're actually going to get Switch rewards on My Nintendo. This could very well be one.

Loved this one, just finished 2 the other day. it's better in a lot of ways than it's predecessor but it's not worth the praise it got and this is coming from a fan. heist was doe
WILL BUY!
Am I alone in enjoying the first slightly more than the second? Maybe it was the novelty.
Anyway, won’t be double dipping, but well worth picking up if you haven’t played it.
If the price is right I'll get this for a.. fourth time? Something like that. Think I preffered this one to the second purely for it being more simple. But I'm way too laid back these days.
I'm not going to quadruple dip for this. Not yet anyway...
Loved this on 3DS, Vita and pc. It was always waaaaaaaay too short - SD2 rectified this somewhat, but I could still play for a few (hundred) more hours.
Nice! I've been holding off on buying it for the Wii U just in case it came to the Switch. Just from watching videos of it, I know I'll love it and it's sequel.
UGH! I would have totally bought this instead of the wiiu version.
I won't be double dipping here... unless they offer a new SteamWorld collection for the Switch. With all three games now available, they're basically at full retail game status.
@holygeez03 Might be wrong, and probably am, but I thought Image & Form had already said they're working on Heist 2. I actually came in at Heist, so never played Dig, though I adored the sequel last year. Still think Heist is their best work so far, though.
Yaaaaassss. Quad dipping!
Sorry, not going to quadrupledip for $10. Great game and will end up getting on sale someday.
I recently played this on the 3DS. It's a very fun, addicting game, one that I would be happy to pick up on the Switch.
...I'm still all for a physical compilation, though.
Even though it's downloaded on my Wii U , I haven't immersed myself in it yet. I'll consider a Switch dual combo physical purchase however if I wind up liking it after I boot up my Wii U.
Hmmm...please give us a physical compilation!
Well, I liked this game, but far, far less than everybody else seems to be. It was okay, but nothing groundbreaking. No pun intended.
Damn I just beat it for the 2nd time on the 3DS after beating the 2nd game on the Switch.
@subpopz ditto. Happened on Wii U.
Pass. Great game, but I have it on 3DS. As long as I still have my 3DS and WiiU I’ve never understood the point of buying something again just to have it on my Switch as well. Now if we could get some Steamworld Amiibo or have Rusty or Dorothy in Smash...
I always wanted to get this but never got around to it. I really enjoyed Dig 2, so I'll make sure to get it this time around on the Switch.
I absolutely loved #2, but don't think I want to go backwards now after such a strong showing. I am all in for future releases though!
Oh wow, very unexpected but nice for those who missed out on it!
I already got the game on my Vita and PS4 so I will be passing on this, especially since I think the sequel is generally a better game.
Probably primarily meant for people who never played it. It was probably an easy port, and selling games on the eshop is almost pure profit for the company, so why not?
Just finished this on Xbone. This was wayyy high up there on the "eventual Switch ports" list and here it is
Even though Dig 2 is a much longer and mechanically superior to the first, I still really enjoy the first one and feel that it has more replay value as it's mines are procedurally generated. I played through Dig 2 once and have tried to play through a second time, but I just can't get into it again. I have around 250 hours logged on the original on 3DS and only about 20 on Dig 2.
I'll maybe get it when it's super cheap, but I already own this multiple times already...
