Like the world's most ink-filled Advent calendar, Splatoon 2 just keeps giving and giving. We've seen regular new updates released for the game since its launch in July and this weekend is no different.
Resembling a bottle of champagne concealed within a plastic bag (a perfectly safe item, we imagine), The Squeezer is the latest weapon to be added to the game. It will come with the Splash Wall as its sub weapon, and the Sting Ray as its special, all of which you can see in this tweet below.
As always, the update will likely roll out at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern today (21st December), which means the early hours of the morning (2am UK / 3am CET) in Europe.
Are you going to be trying this one out over the coming days?

Haha! Nice! Now that's a unique little weapon! 8D
Been waiting to see what it would be called.
I think Arms has held up better than Splatoon 2 as far as replay value. I’m burnt out on Splatoon.
@Bengals76 Well the Arms demi didn't interest me but splatoon I have like, 200+ hours on.
OOO, Splash wall and the Sting Ray?? Hmmm, I might have found a new "main."
I wish the NoE tweets went a little more in depth! We've got 280 characters for a reason!
Apparently the range will decrease the longer you hold the trigger, like a bottle of champagne losing its initial burst, meaning it should function quite uniquely compared to most other weapons.
And I'm finding it hard to say that Splatoon isn't doing it's bit to 'stay fresh' what with the ongoing release of new weapons, modes, maps, clothes, hair, music, etc.
God I wish I had Splatoon 2 but I could only pick one game for my Switch as a Christmas present. Maybe as a birthday present.
@iLikeUrAttitude
What did you pick instead? I don't want to rub salt in the wound, but Splatoon 2 is simply fantastic. I love it more than the first one.
It's awesome Nintendo allowed something related to alcohol in this game !
Curious how it differentiates itself from other weapons. Looks like we don’t have long to wait.
@gurtifus Nah, it's sparkling ink juice.
Great timing for New Year's Eve, too.
Has anyone found a video of this new weapon in action?
Great timing. Needed to go back to Clam Blitz.
@Bengals76
I am in the other end too. I have spent 100 hours between both games and Arms only has 5 of those hours. But admittedly both games have had their fair share of updates.
Ooo nice!
I thoroughly enjoy both ARMS and Splatoon. Currently sitting at
ARMS- 105 hours
Splatoon- 160 hours
But that doesn’t compare to
The LoZBotW- 415 hours.
Nothing will dethrone that for a while.
Been waiting so long for the Squeezer. <3
Splatoon 2: 700+ hours
ARMS: 15ish hours
Probably my second favourite game this year. So much fun.
@MoonKnight7 Sorry for the late reply but for my Switch I picked Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I played the first one on the new 3ds xl and loved it all the way. The second game I'll get for the Switch will probably be Splatoon 2 or Mario Kart 8 deluxe.
ARMS: roughly 50+
Splatoon 2: roughly 200+
@Bengals76 Have you tried Clam Blitz in Splatoon 2, yet? It's kinda like football in that there's a "football" (the Super Clam, which looks like a football), goal posts, and you can pass the 'ball' ahead to your teammates if they're in a better position. Clam Blitz is also the first time in Splatoon that teams (League Teams mostly) should have definitive Offensive and Defensive strategies in place and/or roles.
Other than that, it's nothing like football But it's definitely different than anything I've seen before.
@abbyhitter Only seen it in the version 2(?) update trailer, not actual gameplay. But now that I think of it, it sounds sort of like how the Glooga Dualies have that stronger first shot after a roll, but instead, the Squeezer's damage just falls off over time.
@iLikeUrAttitude
Haha, it's cool no worries. Hey that's a good pick, I don't blame you! We'll keep the servers running until you can join later on.
@MoonKnight7 I will join the community as soon as I can!!
@masterLEON
Actually, I have never heard of Clam Blitz before. I have only played the online matches. What else might I be missing out on? 😳
@Bengals76 You have to be Level 10 or up to unlock the Ranked Mode which contains 4 types of games, namely Tower Control, Rainmaker, Splat Zones, and Clam Blitz (they're on rotation). So keep playing the online matches if your level's not there yet. And have you tried Salmon Run? Oddly enough I don't think I'd ever get burnt out by it. The squidbag (or squidbang) party after a successful final wave is so satisfying!
@Bengals76 Well, allow me to introduce you to Clam Blitz, then!
To summarize, teams gather clams that appear around the map. When someone gathers 10 clams, the clams turn into a Super Clam. Then they run it to the opposing team's uprights to throw the Super Clam at the floor-to-ceiling training ball to break it open for 20 points. Once open, other teammates can chuck clams in there for 3 points each until the barrier reforms about 20 seconds afterwards. First team to score 100 points (counting down) wins. Overtime happens when neither team scores 100 points and there are still Super Clams in play.
Yeah, a net behind the uprights seems like it would make more sense, but I guess they wanted something so you can toss clams in from any angle.
To add onto what @HADAA mentioned, ranked mode is great for when Turf War just ain't doing it for you anymore! If you're at level 10 or higher, press up when you're in the lobby to choose Ranked Battle.
-Splat Zones is like Turf War, but you have to keep a small area of the map covered in your team's ink for 100 ticks of the timer. Easier said than done.
-Rainmaker is like capture the flag, but the flag is a golden fish, that shoots exploding shots, that you have to run back to the opposing team's pedestal in their base. Shoot the shield surrounding the Rainmaker to free it. Move with your team to the other team's base. The player carrying the Rainmaker can't move fast, and they have to hold the trigger to charge it up so it can fire. If the Rainmaker is successfully brought to the pedestal, then that team wins. I think my fastest win was about 35 seconds!
-Tower Control is a payload style mode. Make your way to the tower and climb on top. Ride the tower along its path until you reach the goal in the other team's base. Also, easier said than done. This is my favorite mode. But Clam Blitz is starting to look good, so we'll see.
All these modes are super competitive. So if this sounds like it'd be right up your alley, then by all means, dive in! I can't even go back to Turf War unless it's Splat Fest!
And Salmon Run is my other favorite mode. It helps me hone my situational awareness, as well as helping me get used to using other weapons (because you can't choose what to use, you get an assigned weapon at the beginning of every wave). It can also help someone train to use motion controls without worrying about levels and ranks.
@HADAA Salmon Run is always fresh because every run plays out differently. And yeah, surviving the Salmonocalypse to wave 3 definitely deserves a squidbag party! Especially when your crew makes it through by the skin of their teeth!
.........What?
