It's been three months since Samus Aran blasted her way back onto 3DS with the nostalgic romp that is Metroid: Samus Returns, so of course Nintendo has released a new trailer to, you know, remind you it exists.
Entitled 'SR388 Data File', the video shows off some of the armoured bounty hunter's new moves, including the secret (but extremely useful) Spider Boost ability. It'll help you boost to previously unreachable areas, making it rather useful in a game that helped coin the term 'Metroidvania'.
Just beware of a couple of spoilers for some of the game's latter bosses (just in case you haven't played /finished it yet).
Metroid: Samus Returns is available now on 3DS. Metroid Prime 4 in in the works for Nintendo Switch, too, which is worth remembering when you need a pick-me-up.

Oooh...kay ?
My underdog GOTY, although it still does lose out to Mario but not Zelda. If it was on the Switch or a year earlier it might've actually had a chance.
This might be the final big holiday season for the 3DS, so they need to make sure poeople are aware of the great titles they have available.
@ieatdragonz Same for me except i would swap Mario and Zelda. This was easily my favorite 3DS game this year. I also agree that had it come out last year when the 3DS was basically the only console Nintendo supported it would have been more successful sales wise.
Great game and deserves more attention! You're not a Metroid fan if you haven't played or at least plan on playing this game at some point.
Instant buy if this is ever ported to switch.
3 months...time for the Switch version.
@Spoony_Tech I feel no reason to go back to my 3ds,thats why i haven't bought it as I'd rather spend the same money on Switch games. My 3ds was solely a MH machine for the last few years too. I like Metroid but it should have also come to the Switch as an appetizer to Prime 4 imo
I hope they rerelease it on Switch eventually. I never bought it on 3DS but definitely would day 1 on Switch.
Day 1 purchase, after 3 days of playing I went back to my switch and forgot about this game until just now. They need to release it on switch if I’m going to beat it.
@BravelyDavid To be fair we don't know the sales yet outside of Japan/UK. When Nintendo gives official numbers in their fiscal year in March we can see how successful it was in America. I've seen many people playing it over here so who knows.
It really is a fantastic game, immediately after I had trouble determining it as my favorite Metroid game. Super Metroid is so close but I think it might beat it. That's an achievement in of itself.
It was a good game, but on the Metroid totem pole it's one of the weaker ones definitely.
Holiday push I suppose.
That spoiler is rough, though. I’m so glad I was legitimately surprised when playing the game nearly three months ago but if I hadn’t yet I’d be furious to see the secret final boss in a trailer.
I keep forgetting I have this game. Really need to play it since I begged Nintendo to make a 2D game since the release of Other M.
Top game, so glad I got my legacy edition. Just as others have already mentioned my 3rd fave game of the year behind the obvious 2.
Honestly, it's my game of the year right now (still haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Splatoon 2 yet though). Mario and Zelda are fantastic, but classic Metroid is always the top thing for me! I played through this game like 5 times already including at least once on all difficulty settings.
Still want an all new, original, 2D Metroid. Since Metroid Fusion, we've had remastered Metroid 1 (Zero Mission) and remastered Metroid 2 (Samus Returns), so I'm guessing that a logical remaster of Super Metroid is next, which of course, will sell like the best stack of hotcakes you've ever dreamed of. Sooner or later Nintendo... can't dodge it (or us fans) forever.
This is one of a bunch of games that has gone on the backburner. After a couple of hours I can say it hasn't really grabbed me. Also, the graphics aren't that good in my opinion, with all those cheap colors. People compare the 3D to Mirror of fates, but Mirror of fates has much better 3D and overall looks much better. The next really great Metroid, I think we have to wait till Prime 4 (hopefully Nintendo doesn't mess up).
Zero mission and Fusion are much better, but I admit to prefer pixels over polygons. AM2R is probably also better. Liked it a lot, but stopped at some point because of the difficulty. One day I continue.
"Metroid Prime 4 is in the works for Nintendo Switch, too, which is worth remembering when you need a pick-me-up."
as soon as I read this it picked me up... ^_^
I still need to play this, but the good news is that it's the next Metroid game up on my list!
"Summoning all heroes"...Smash??!! Well, a man can dream.
This is my game of the year. It’s rare that I restart a game immediately after finishing it.... twice.
Everybody that’s begging for it on Switch, I understand and feel your pain. However, it’s perfect on 3DS and makes great use of the bottom touch screen. I’m not sure how it would translate over, without some interface changes.
Amazing game.
I have the special edition Samus 3DS and the game sitting on my shelf unopen. Switch is eating my time.
I bought this on Day 1 after waiting to play it, ever since the E3 Announcement, and I wasn't disappointed. I Loved playing this remake of Metroid II as it was one of my Fave Gameboy Games.
Although after completion, I found myself playing Super Metroid again, particularly Rom hacks like the Item Randomizer.
@MeloMan To be fair, as someone who's played both the original Metroid II and Samus Returns, it's only really a remake at the surface level. Story-wise, yes it's the same. Gameplay-wise, however, it's a brand new metroid game through and through. New maps, new power ups, new enemies, new combat abilities - it feels much more like an "A Link Between Worlds"-esque game
I will continue waiting for a Switch HD port.
If you have a 3DS and like METROID , then get this game you wont be disappointed its great .
I beat this game, 100% on every area. I just started FUSION MODE and I'm loving it. Good thing I bought those Amiibo. Nintendo really needs to just make that mode FREE.
Release a trailer that indicates a patch to unlock amiibo exclusive modes and gear. Shame on you Nintendo for the paywall
I hope I someday get around to playing hard and/or fusion mode... I absolutely loved this game and would love to have the free time and/or not-owning-a-billion-other-games-thing to keep loving it.
