Polish studio / publisher Crunching Koalas, which recently brought us the rather lovely Lichtspeer: Double Speer Edition, is back this week with another fun looking game for the Switch eShop.
According to the European eShop 'coming soon' list, BUTCHER will be available on Thursday 28th September for £8.99. Developed by Transhuman Design this is a fast-paced 2D shooter, and a quite a violent one too!
As a cyborg programmed to eradicate the last remains of humanity, your sole purpose is to annihilate anything that moves. Grab your weapon of choice (such as a chainsaw, shotgun or grenade launcher) and kill your way through underground hideouts, post-apocalyptic cities, jungles and more.
If you are feeling creative, there are plenty of other ways of ending your enemies' misery too. The game practically encourages you to use hooks, lava pits, saws and more to your advantage.
Let us know if you plan to take a punt on BUTCHER when it comes to cause havoc on the Switch this Thursday with a comment below.

Looks cool but Golf Story will be getting all my attention and money this week.
Pretty cool!
I have a PS4 (netflix machine), but I will buy it on Switch since it has become my main console.
@JHDK Same here.
I think the game looks great but not keen on the premise at all. A real turn off for me.
The recent DOOM announcement has me anxious for some good ol' ultraviolence. This will do nicely.
I'll be buying the butcher , golf story and conga master on the 28th
Yes please.
😂 The trailer has an 80's horror action vibe that I absolutely love! Almost Quentin tarintino-ish. Will be downloading this.
A game for me. Im waiting the game Rive too.
Wow, a twin-stick platform shooter, looks great! It looks kind of Broforce-esque. I usually prefer a colorful aesthetic but this looks very well executed.
I looked up the info and this game indeed has MANUALLY DESIGNED LEVELS, not randomly generated.
There is a free demo available on Steam (Mac/Win): https://butcher.thd.vg/
Keep em coming, Crunchy Koalas!!!
10/10, would butch again.
No thanks @ ultra-violence.
It looks like it could be fun, but.....
Am I the only one getting bored with the trend of games that are super zoomed out, with characters that look like a blob of pixels? To me, it looks ugly and distracting. I love retro-themed games, but something about this style is a put off.
@Spoony_Tech: I feel ya, Spoony.
Sort of looks like Terminator meets Cybernator . . .
@Spoony_Tech That's how I feel as well. I do like some mindless tongue-in-cheek violence every now and then, but this seems to really overdo it with that storyline.
HATRED: the video game needs to take notes.
As long as it’s not ridiculously difficult I’m in.
I’ll play it!
How did the game get its name? Is it because the graphics are BUTCHERed? Another 8 bit 2D sidescroller from an indie.
@Spoony_Tech Same issue here. Looks like fun but the premise would make me feel uncomfortable whilst playing even though its all mindless make believe.
@audiobrainiac It is super difficult. I have it on Steam. It's great... but brutal.
It is quite literally a hyper hard side scrolling Doom that feels like an actual DOS game. It's quite good but some levels are stupidly hard.
Looks like another purchase for me.
Have to try this lol
This looks impossible to play in handheld mode.
This looks really good...very gratuitous, even if it is just pixels. The only problem I have is the "super hard" part. When they're stupid hard, it's also hard to have fun. I know there are lots of folks that enjoy super hard games, but I'm unsure.
...ok...this week and October is going to break me...
This seems like a nice distraction for a slow weekend... will save for a rainy day
@BanjoPickles I'm with you. I feel like a lot of indie devs nowadays don't care about making good pixel art. The game looks fun enough but the blurry pixel art makes it look like a hot mess. In addition it's really hard to see your character with the camera zoomed out that far.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE ha... haha... hahaha. That's so clever =/
Also, what's wrong with a game that uses pixel graphics or is indie for that matter? Does either of those things automatically make the game low effort or something?
Looks fun, but I'll wait for the review of this one.
I bit on the similar GunSlugs, but was so disappointed in the floaty controls and the fact that there were so many bullets everywhere and you could take so much damage without dying... just bad design. I often find games with one-hit deaths a much more refined gaming experience.
@G_M because it looks like trash
Didn't this game have a different title?? I could be wrong but....
@BanjoPickles @Oat
Agreed. There's been a floodgate of these 8 bit/16 bit pixel art games in recent years. There's some out there you can tell are actually in it for the aesthetic value as it shines through with the level of detail and clarity. But many are just starting to come off lazy with these blurry messes.
I'm pretty interested in the premise of this game but the "artistic" choice here is a turn off. I'll wait for a review.
@SharkAttackU It's hard to know what is going on when playing on my 15" macbook pro... so yeah... that is a very valid point.
Yeah this game is really violent to my eyes, torturing them with these ugly pixelated graphics.
if i live a life like this in real life, would this game still be fun or would it be like me playing my life in a video game?
@shakim1972
How is he a troll? I've turned on my ps4 three times since I got my switch and have let my plus sub run out.
So you are a Terminator? Give me a Cameron skin and I'm in.
I couldn't tell what was going on, a bunch of ants and explosions lol
So it's Terminator, but you're playing as the mass murdering robot instead of fighting them? My inner child is pleased.
@WinkSugoi
There's nothing wrong with the style of games, per se, but I do think that they are a bit misleading. They may have the same play mechanics of games from the 8-16 bit generations, but they are not nearly as visually appealing. I mean, with the exception of games like Shovel Knight (brilliant game, all around), Mighty Switch Force, and Blaster Master Zero (obviously), the games don't look anything like the style that they're allegedly influenced by.
A great game is a great game, yes, but is it so difficult to make sprites that are larger than ants?
@shakim1972
I never checked your post history before I commented sorry, you don't start a troll account like yours without making some posts that make sense first, way too obvious. Try harder next time or least be creative, otherwise you are just wasting everyones time.
