The Monster Hunter games on Nintendo hardware have always been generous with regular and tempting free DLC, often in the form of outfits and weapons that can be unlocked. Monster Hunter Stories is no different, and when it was released in Japan its Legend of Zelda crossover content was particularly eye-catching.
Pleasingly the DLC is also making its way to the West following the title's recent localisation. The Monster Hunter Stories x The Legend of Zelda content will go live this week on 28th September, and as expected will be free. A localised trailer below shows the outfits and fun attack moves that'll be possible when teamed up with Epona.
Monster Hunter Stories is a rather delightful game, though early indications are that sales have been relatively modest. Let us know if you've taken the plunge with this one in the comments.

Awesome!
It actually looks pretty good, if the 3ds weren't so old now I'd say I wouldn't mind seeing a Zelda game that looked like that on there.
Wow! I have followed this game since before it's japanese release and am really enjoying the gameplay now that it's out. It looks really nice I'm definitely getting the DLC later.
Suspicious timing. Yes, Capcom, you still have an audience among Nintendo fans if you bother to care.
Also, the closing shot mirroring the opening to the Capcom-made Oracle games is not lost on me.
Wow, Zelda characters/costumes in a non-Zelda game for the one billionth time in the last few years...
I was on the fence with MH Stories but finally got myself to order it. Will get it at the end of October together with Samus Returns Superstar Saga and Mario Odyssey. Like to buy games in 'bulk' to cut down on shipping costs.
Been anticipating this,
Link looked good on Monster Hunter Stories.
I wonder the next DLC will be Chibi Maruko chan and Kumamoto, like Japanese version DLC.
@AlexSora89 Gotta love that pixel art.
@Haywired name 3.
@Haywired I know right? I don't need to play as Link in every non-zelda game released on a Nintendo system...
@kbshadow From the top of my head:
Animal Crossing New Leaf
Skyrim Switch
Monster Hunter Generations / Ultimate 4 / Stories
Mario Kart 8
Miitopia
That's adorable.
So when does BotW get free MH DLC? Wouldn't mind fighting a few of those boss beasts as Link. I really did like Link taking on all comers in HW.
@kbshadow
Super Smash Bros, Super Mario Maker, Bayonetta, Mario Kart 8, Monster Hunter Stories, Miitopia, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Skyrim, Monster Hunter 4, Yoshi's Woolly World, Nintendo Land, Fatal Frame 5
@Haywired @Sir_Anthony It's optional. If you don't want to use the content, don't. There's no reason to complain about optional content.
@Tarvaax
I'm not really upset about it. I'd just say Link's in danger of becoming a bit ubiquitous/over-exposed when he turns up to every party. What was once an exciting novelty and a huge deal (Soulcalibur 2) has become a tired, worn-out cliché now.
This is some great looking DLC. I'm just curious how they got the game to run higher than 4 FPS for the trailer. 😂
I think it’s great. Many people know of Legend of Zelda, yes, but having stuff from the franchise incorporated in other games that are still not entirely mainstream does bring some attention to said franchise. I can’t wait to download this to the game. My kids and I are having a blast with MHS and I’ve practically put my Switch to the side for now even though I just got Xenoverse 2 on Friday (though with the release of FE Warriors in Japan this week, I’ll likely pick up my Switch again very soon)
Hopefully an Okami DLC too in the future.
@janfritz Sadly not. All DLC has been released in JP already, here the list (in japanese): http://www.mh-stories.jp/dlc/
@ShikabaneHime13
Heehee, I was the same way honestly. Couldn't detach myself from my Switch, but I always knew I would get MHS regardless, and now it's the only game I've touched these last few weeks besides picking up Xenoverse and a few eshop titles.
It. Is. Sooo. Good. Highly recommended.
Hmm. I've given this game a pass until now, but the idea of Epona handing out beatdowns to Rathalos et al amuses me far more than it reasonably should. Intriguing.
I want this. I wonder when it will get to the states?
This game is amazing. Buy it now.
@NickOfTime90
Gotta love the games we played
back when third-party games were made
and Capcom, all the [expletive]s they gave...
those were the daaaaaaaaaaaaays!
(All In The Nintendo Family is recorded in front of a live audience.)
@AlexSora89 I wonder how many will get that reference? Stifle it Edith!
Loved the demo, I should get this game asap
@SyFyTy
Attention to detail, from Capcom no less, on a Nintendo platform, referencing a Zelda they made back in the day... yep, quite the accomplishment, I'll say.
@SyFyTy
Oh, you meant the All In The Family one!
Im boycotting Capcom until I see Monster Hunter XX release for Switch. Then I will start buying again. It makes no sense not to want free money cause thats what they would get. Millions of dollars in free money and the Switch would get another game that sells systems.
