No doubt many Nintendo fans were greatly disappointed by the puzzling omission of anything Nintendo with the recently released Mega Man Legacy Collection 2. Considering that some of the games included originally came out for Nintendo platforms and that the first Mega Man Legacy Collection came out on 3DS, it seems logical that the new collection would be sure to see a release on Switch or 3DS, but apparently Capcom doesn’t want too much money from the Nintendo fanbase. Nonetheless, some interesting references to the 3DS have been found in the game’s code.
A dataminer named Greigamaster recently found some code that indicates a multiplayer battle mode for a supposed 3DS version. Additionally, code was found referring to saves and replays for an SD card, and the 3DS has its own directory file, too. As the source article points out, this either means that the game is coming to 3DS, was initially coming to 3DS before getting canned, or it's completely unrelated to the collection at all and is just simply code belonging to another project by the same team. Though the last one is unlikely, it makes one wonder which of the first two outcomes would explain this.
What do you think? Is Capcom planning a late release of the game for 3DS? Would you buy it for the platform? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Wait, what? So they may have had plans and just...canceled them for no reason?
Bring it to Wii U Capcom and we'll talk. If not that, then Switch.
Capcom seems to be allergic to decent ideas when it comes to megaman.
Could the game(s) be using assets from previous games? Maybe they just copied the files across wholesale.
That's Capcom for ya!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Lol let the Wiii U rest in piece, buddy...
Something really weird is going on between Capcom and Nintendo.
But it could well be that the first legacy collection just sold bad, since a lot of the old Mega Man games are available via Virtual Console and as such Capcom is just trying it on other platforms instead.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Finally got a Nintendo Switch huh?
↑ @BAN You were saying? ↑
Er, Capcom, you do know that the Switch has no virtual console yet, right? So there's nothing eating into your potential sales there. So why haven't you ported MMLC2 to Switch?
I'm a simple man: I see a megaman game, I want it. Please, give it to me, Capcom.
@Fandabidozi the Switch "d-pad" has worked well enough for Sonic Mania, Mighty Gunvolt, and Puyo Puyo for me, though that might be because I don't roll my thumb around the d-pad like some people do.
Normally I hate when dataminers find spoilers etc within games, but this is interesting. I don't see any logical reason why this wasn't released on 3DS and/or Switch.
Just play Mighty Gunvolt Burst. It's basically an unofficial Megaman 11.
At this point it's obvious Nintendo and Capcom had some sort of falling out. It's the only thing that would explain some of the company's decision in face of the Switch's success. Let's hope this is sorted out soon.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE ... I think the Wii U already had its time in the sun
Really strange why Capcom hasn't said anything about this
I enjoy Mighty Gunvolt Burst a lot, but a true Mega Man game is so long overdue already that it nearly physically hurts me.
Mega Man is definitely in my Top-3 IP's (the only amiibo I got is Mega Man), so this makes me even sadder.
Imagine a brand new Mega Man game, either in 8-bit, 16-bit (X is still my favourite; in case you disagree with this sentiment, check out 'Sequelitis Mega Man X' on YouTube, the video does an excellent job of explaining why this game is so darn fine - beware of mature language though) or even a complete overhaul of the game if it's well done (imagine something in the way of what Mario 64 or Metroid Prime did, just for Mega Man - keep the core elements intact - JUMP'N'SHOOT! - and mix up the formula in a significant way to make it fresh again).
9 and 10 were great, I'm ready for 11 (in whatever form they choose to design it) - would be a day 1 purchase.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Wii U is literally dead.
Move on to Switch.
Btw, have you bought one ?
I would definitely get it for the 3DS. 8 is the only one of the main series that I haven't played, and nothing beats having Mega Man 9 on the go - the best Mega Man game in my opinion.
@Jeronan I mean, the Legacy Collection sold 250,000 units worldwide on 3DS and 100,000 units on PS4...
Where's the petition for this?
Switch or 3DS or Wii-U. I don't care which Capcom, just gimme some Mega Man on a Nintendo device.
I'm not convinced Nintendo will see any more Capcom 3DS support going forwards beyond maybe this collection - does seem an odd one to pass up on though as 3DS collection did OK, right? Surely the low budget requirements must be a draw there.
I can't see them passing on future Switch support though, Monster Hunter or otherwise, come 2018 they'll be plenty of support unless, by some weird twist, Nintendo botch the last quarter. The success is too much for anyone to ignore at this point, surely.
He's trolling about the Wii U guys, I don't believe for a second anybody is that out of touch
Capcom is full of lies. I highly doubt we'll get anything except for a port this year for Switch.
@BAN Last time, just to emphasise the point.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/08/dataminers_have_found_3ds_code_in_mega_man_legacy_collection_2#comment4083829
I'd like to think that it's because we'll get all the games 'free' as part of the library when the paid online service comes.
But that is niaevely optimistic!
I was looking forward to getting this for 3DS, but it doesn't seem very likely at this point. For the past decade or so, Capcom has been fairly content with shooting themselves in the foot. Over and over and over.
These data mining stories are completely bogus!
Remember when SNES games were addd to the 3DS VC? There was a story about data miners discovering code for the following games:
-Sim City
-Secret of Mana
-Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
-R Type III
-Gradius III
-Populous
-Actraiser
-Super Bomberman 3
-Super Mario Collection
-Kirby Super Stacker
-Final Fantasy VI
(A ton of other Japanese only releases)
Of course, none of those games were ever released, or even hinted at being released, and the SNES VC is completely dead on the 3DS. These stories are only created to raise false hope.
It's apparent that Crapcom thought Nintendo was going to discontinued the 3DS once the Switch is the focus but even so they still refuse to release the collection for both. This crappy company seems like it doesn't know what to do or how to support. Every one of their decision are either we'll think about it or never and it's ruining the fanbase. Sega did the right thing with Sonic Mania, Activision did good with Crash N-Sanity, Konami did well with Super Bomberman R, DotEmu did an excellent job with Wonder Boy: Dragon's Trap, WayForward did a fantastic job with Shantae: Half Genie, and UbiSoft returns with Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition but this fking company can't even give their fans the games they want. Dear Crapcom, you had Mega Man fans on all platforms, release all your crap on all platforms. If you want your company name to be praise like the rest ya better bring the goods otherwise you're just another gaming joke of this gen.
I guess Capcom is taking a page out of the Nintendo rule book. Why would we want more money??
That's why my game got a tiny update the other day. Looks like they removed the code now. But they didn't fix the sound issues in MM 9/10. Priorities I guess
I have my issues with Capcom, but before everyone flies off the handle and damns Capcom to the pits of hell, keep something in mind. 3DS code only means that at one point, the game may have been planned for that platform. It could also mean it was copied from the first Legacy Collection and means nothing for the second one. Many games(even Nintendo ones) will often copy code and data between games, especially if two games share a common engine.
One other thing to consider is that maybe Capcom ran into emulation issues with one or more of the games. Maybe Mega Man 7 or 8 run like crap on the basic 3DS models, and Capcom did not want to put out a game a sizable audience of 3DS owners could not enjoy properly? After all, we don't have SNES VC games on the basic 3DS models, and Mega Man 7 has seen emulation issues in previous collections.
As for no Switch version, maybe the game was too far into production for a Switch Version to be ready. This game could have been pretty far in development before the Switch Development kits arrived.
I'm not a fan of Capcom by any stretch of the imagination, but a small bit of 3DS code does not mean Capcom wanted to screw over Nintendo and their fans. They know how popular Mega Man is on Nintendo, I doubt they would have skipped putting out a collection that would print money unless they ran into issues with the Nintendo ports.
I'm hoping the game eventually gets released on Switch, but as a compilation of the first Legacy Collection and this one. Otherwise, it looks like we will just have to wait until we can buy the games piecemeal on the Virtual Console, if and when it ever arrives...
Eh...3DS would be something, but I'd rather have it on Switch. I've been wanting MM9 and 10 on a handheld for years, and being able to put it on the TV whenever I want would be nice too.
I can see why some recent AAA games are skipping Nintendo's under-powered consoles but the fact that retro games like this are available for Windows, Xbox and PS but not for Nintendo is a little worrying to say the least.
It might just be that the thing shares some code from the original game
Capcom doesn't surprise me in the slightest, and neither did this. I was wondering if Capcom was going to mess something up with megaman in it, and behold, more info that may or may-not be true. Plus imma kinda mobile, so having the game on the 3ds, like i had before, would've been better for me...
@Kalmaro: Wouldn't be the first time Capcom's done this if that's the case. The cancellation of Legends 3 still confuses me.
@Kalmaro Probably wanted to, but couldn't get games from across 3 systems to run on 3DS in a single package.
Whats this? Capcom being Crapcom.
"but apparently Capcom doesn’t want too much money from the Nintendo fanbase"
If it wasn't so true I wouldn't be dying laughing so hard
@SLIGEACH_EIRE lol people are clearly messing with you now.
@Jeronan I don't think it was bad sales since from what I hear the 3DS version of Legacy Collection actually sold the highest
Calling it now. Next Nintendo Direct is where they announce the new ARMS character and a Complete Legacy Collection for the Switch.
@Jeronan Have you been living under a rock? The 3DS version of LC1 sold double the PS4 and XB1 versions COMBINED. Get your facts straight.
@Pupito
You, sir, are mentally Ill if you think Mega Man 9 doesn't deserve a portable port.
@Caryslan
No dev kits in time? COUGHLego City UndercoverCOUGH. Crapcom has no excuse for this collection that can run on a potato to not be on the Switch.
@Reyn-the-Insane Or for the Disney Afternoon Collection to not be on Switch.
Not good.
Megaman in 3D is great. What a shame.
owo
Saw the subheader and couldn't resist.
Sony does what Nintendon't
@ricklongo What exactly makes you say that?
Ultra Street Fighter II
Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2
Monster Hunter XX
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/07/capcom_reportedly_gearing_up_for_multiple_nintendo_switch_titles
@CTMike
It's only a port, but still: They just announced a 3DS release of Apollo Justice, coming later this year.
Capcom hasn't changed a bit, very anti-Nintendo...
@Grumblevolcano Capcom still have lots of exclusive games coming to 3DS/Switch though...
@Grumblevolcano Capcom supported Wii and 3DS with great AAA games. They are releasing more games for Switch than any other developer, as far as I know. The thing is that they can't just port Xbox One/PS4 games to Switch because of the architecture and power of Switch. If very simple games like Snake Pass have performance issues on Switch there's no way Monster Hunter World could ever run on Switch. Porting Resident Evil Revelations 2 to Switch is already a big effort, I can't wait to see its performance on it. About Mega Man Legacy Collection, it's weird that isn't launching for 3DS nor Switch, agreed, but it's also weird that Ultra Street Fighter II is a Switch exclusive game this far.
@8itmap_k1d It's very likely to be this. When I start a new programming project that has many similarities to a previous one I'll use that code base as a placeholder and then just replace the bits that aren't relevant to the new project.
Likewise I'll often leave unused assets or parts of the code in the project in case the functionality becomes needed later. The developers of Collection 2 likely left the 3DS code in there either in case Capcom changed their minds or because it wasn't worth the time removing it.
@BlueOcean ...
This is a Mega Man collection, though. Which I am sure the Switch can run.
Where have I seen this before...?
... oh, right. The Xbox 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken with its disc-locked content. Look it up, and keep a bucket for throwing up around.
@Nico87Mega Man Legacy 2 inexplicably skipping Nintendo hardware for one, or Disney Afternoon Collection, or their refusal to commit to a western release for Monster Hunter Switch. The Switch is super hot right now, especially in their native Japan, and yet their titles, which look like a slam dunk in Nintendo's platform, often miss out on it.
Considering how much later the 3DS version of the first legacy collection came out compared to the console versions, I wouldn't be surprised if a 3DS version of Legacy Collection 2 is set to release sometime soon.
Somehow this just makes me even more bummed out. I really wanted the second Legacy Collection.
@Pupito
I don't think Nintendo should buy Inti-creates. I've a feeling that they'll come into their own in a big way someday.
@Pupito
No, I really don't think it would.
@RyanSilberman Of course, that's what I said at the end of my comment, it is weird that this retro collection is not available for 3DS and/or Switch. At the same time, it's weird that Ultra Street Fighter II is a Switch exclusive (this far).
If Switch can't have all Xbox One/PS4 games because it lacks power then at least it should have the less demanding games and a Virtual Console.
