New information has surfaced from the Squid Research Lab giving another report on the ongoing story between Squid Sisters Callie and Marie. Previously Chapter 1 findings noted their new found fame and how the duo were both adjusting to spending so much time away from one another after years of being inseparable. Chapter 2 writes about Marie and her doubting thoughts for her sister, because of the final results in the last Splatfest.
The full chapter reads:
Marie was home alone. She'd gotten a day off, but with theatre rehearsals starting up next month, she knew life would be returning quickly to its frantic pace. Chances to relax at home like this would soon become few and far between. Knowing work would keep Callie out late, Marie busied herself with the chores that always seemed to pile up and waited for her friend to return home.
At times like this, Marie's thoughts always seemed to drift…
"How had Callie truly felt when the results of the final Splatfest had been announced? She seemed disappointed, of course, but that was just because she'd lost...right? Or was she actually jealous of my rising popularity? Could she still be holding it against me after all this time?"
"Just listen to yourself, Marie—you're overthinking this. You know Callie would never feel that way. Maybe all this worrying has actually given you some sort of superiority complex. Maybe winning that final Splatfest has made you full of yourself." The very idea stung Marie with a twinge of self-loathing…
Evidence from the Squid Research lab does point to more of a divide between the pair than originally expected. Has the final Splatfest torn the pair apart for good? Until new information surfaces it's impossible to tell.

There's such a stark contrast between the months leading to launch for the original splatoon and splatoon 2. The original one "You're a Kid Now! You're a Squid Now!" and "Lol, look at these weird pop star squid sisters!" In Splatoon 2 "Omg, we broke a bond", "We split Callie and Marie", "What have we done!" XD
This entire concept of the Splatfest dictating the plot of the sequel had made me love the Splatoon series even more. I really, REALLY hope they push the franchise in the future and not let it fizzle out like Metroid or F-zero.
It does read a bit like an overwrought fan fiction, but... I guess there's a place for overwrought fan fiction in the world.
I might start writing a chilling series about the Life and Times of Spyke after he disappeared from his Inkopolis alley.
If one of them turns evil and the Splatfest was her Anakin to Darth Vader moment, that would be sort of fantastic.
Wonder will Callie and Marie be playable characters in some way this time... even for just a stage or two
It really sounds like fan-fiction, only without the countless fetishes, spelling and grammatical errors.
Nintendo should have known better that to place our beloved Squid Sisters against each other. We all knew it could only ever end in heartbreak!
This is why I love Splatoon. No other shooter has this level of teen drama.
Sisterly intrigues? I wonder how that will tie in with the actual game!
What makes something sound like a fan-fiction?
I sense the making of a villain in all of this...
I love how the results of a Splatfest have changed the course of the series.
I'm hoping that we get a much longer single player story mode this time with more Boss battles the first game had a great single player story mode it was unfortunately way way to short.
Still more realistic dialogue than the Only Way Is Essex....
@Romeo-75 This and Arms need to have REAL single player campaigns. Splatoon 1's was mostly a short tutorial to keep you busy while the servers were down, recycling multiplayer maps and acting as tutorials for the different game modes and concepts. I'd love to see a REAL campaign this time.
Is this game going to have an enjoyable single player mode?

I like how they seem totally cool with an octarian just strolling right behind them.
@-Green- I think the 'fan-fiction-feel' mainly comes for taking previously straightforward characters and filling their thoughts with a pervasive sense of angst and selve-doubt/loathing. And everything @Xaessya said.
I saw an ad on Miiverse once that contained the classic line "Oh, I didn't know you liked being touched there". I don't think it was advertising fan fiction (I don't know if you can advertise fan fiction), but a more fanficky line I have never seen. The genre is usually defined by a potent mix of sex, angst, and poor punctuation. Not quite rock 'n' roll, but close enough.
@PeterAndCompany They're probably working on a new Metroid, it just the fanbase is practically at war with Nintendo about a new Metroid.
This sounds like the campaign might be more narrative driven than the last one? I wouldn't mind some depth to my calamari whenever I buy a Switch in the future.
(Also to whoever made the image, u aint slick, I know that's Kong King from the signs >w>)
Callie always struck me as being slightly more emotionally unstable...
I wonder where this will go. (O.O )
@NEStalgia Are you sure you played the single player campaign until the end?
Most levels looked less like the multiplayer maps and more like something out of Mario Galaxy.
Plus, it felt more like a puzzle game than a shooter. But I agree that it was too short and I would love to see more of a story in Splatoon 2.
Once again, I f****** detest that I missed the last one.
How did that happen...
@countzero Haha, I sure did....gotta' unlock that dynamo!
Yeah a lot of them were the weird galaxy levels with the puzzle mechanics, but then each world had the retrofitted multiplayer map (it's still a fun way to see the original Urchin Underpass before they altered it in the early patches) as a sort of training match.
The concept was fine, but it still felt too much like a "Here we learn how inkstrike works, now we learn how inkzooka works" kind of multiplayer tutorial. Not uncommon for online games, but it's a game that, if Splatoon 2 doesn't get a proper campaign, the series needs a proper spinoff that's single player only.
I'm happy that I stopped playing Splatoon long before the final splatfest,so I have nothing to do with this.
Callie!!!! Nooooooo XD
@NintendoFan4Lyf no it's sfm art from long ago that they looked up on google
@Kalmaro the art isn't even official, some fan made it ages ago using sfm
