Update: Natsume has confirmed that the game is coming to the west as River City: Knights of Justice, and that it will be a 3DS eShop exclusive. It would seem that the Japanese setting will be switched for a European setting.
Original story: Natsume appears to be teasing a western release for the 3DS title Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki, a spin-off from the series known as "River City" in this part of the world.
The company posted the following tweet which references the "Barf" comment from River City Ransom - the old-fashioned phrasing highlights the fact that Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki is set in the past:

It looks like we could have another game to add to the 3DS library in 2017. Will you support this release with a purchase? Let us know by barfing in the comments section below - just make sure you clean up after yourself afterwards.

Blergh.
Hopefully the distribution is not limited to North America.
bwahahaha, already own it but I could double dip to show support.
Kunio ?
Awesome, always up for more river city ransom. This is a route I hope more companies take. There's a ton of games in Japan they haven't released over here. Bring em over
I have no idea what's going on! Crazy Japanese!!!!!!!!!!
@King_Johobo
Welcome to Japan !
The country of Unique and Extraordinary things.
This looks fun! I'm very interested in getting this game!
This looks great, especially the weapons usage! I'm definitely down...town Nekketsu for this one!
BARF
I don't have a 3ds since I went all in on the Switch, but I loves me some river city ransom! This I will keep an eye on.
More importantly, does Natsume have any hold in the Lufia series any more? A proper Lufia 2 sequel is what we REALLY need.
Natsume has confirmed River City: Knights of Justice for 3DS eShop
@Ryu_Niiyama I really enjoyed the NES one, and was planning to buy the 3DS game but now that this one i coming out I'm not sure since the combat system seems to be more deep on this one. Could you tell me if this game has online co-op or pvp or it's only local as the Tokyo Rumble version? Which one do you think it's better?
@roy130390 The NES game got a remake called Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP which was released in Japan for the 3DS last year. DNM SP is the latest Downtown release except the Famicom Collection (with all the Famicom/NES Kunio games on one cart). All these other games are spin-offs.
They're all basically the same.
@Nico87 Yeah, I know that, but thanks. I was asking if this game was better than Tokyo Rumble since both are really similar and I just want to get one.
Anyway, it seems this game isn't the one that is being localized, instead we are getting Nekketsu Mahou Monogatari.
Yep, I'm hopeful that they'll localize RCR SP at some point. Tokyo Rumble obviously did well enough, just a shame that this will be eShop-only.
I'd get both to be honest, but seeing as you liked the original RCR then I suggest Tokyo Rumble because of the similarities, despite the rather sluggish controls.
I don't know this series beyond the NES stuff but I'm struggling with this article - the link to a westernised version of said game seems a bit tenuous based on the tweet - sorry I don't follow.
@amishpyrate Just trying to figure out whether your profile pic is Axl Rose or Keith Lemon......
@Iggy-Koopa lol, it's Axl Rose. Guess he's skimmed down again but this was from a couple of years ago when he went through a fat faze.
This is great news (for me!). However someone really (I do mean REALLY!) needs to make a push to bring "River City Ransom: Underground" to the Switch ASAP.
If this plays like or reviews like River City Ransom then I'm definitely picking this one up.
Oh man, eshop..... I wanted another physical release with a cool key chain.
@Shiryu
agreed
@ALinkttPresent Thanks for the detailed info! How disappointing that the assumption made by this article isn't true, though. It was quite a longshot to expect them to localise a remake of a spin-off that almost no one in the West has ever heard of...
Welp back to Nintendo Everything for more accurate info.
Hoping a switch release...
Would buy if it is a physical release for sure, I hope Natsume changes their mind about eshop only. Otherwise, may wait for a sale down the road as I have plenty to play in the meantime.
Double Barf! Love it! Give me more River City Goodness!
