Super Mario Run has been out for a little while now, on both Android and iOS, and while it hasn't perhaps been the home run that may have been expected from the famed plumber's debut on smart devices, it's still seen pretty decent success. Nintendo may have stated that major content updates won't be coming for the game, but new events and supplementary changes have been made every now and then, and now a new update has added a little bit more.
Version 2.1.0 is now live, notably adding in support for Game Center / Google Play achievements, increased compatibility with Miitomo, and some new buildings to decorate the kingdom. Here are the full patch notes:
– The maximum number of Toads that can live in your kingdom has increased to 99,999.
– New buildings have been added, including the 8-bit Bowser Statue, Bullet Bill Statue, Bob-omb Statue, and more. Getting them all will be a challenge for players of every skill level! Note: An in-game purchase is required to get certain color Toads required to unlock all buildings.
– Player icon improvements. You can now display your customized Mii character from Miitomo to really show off your fashion sense! (Note: Miitomo is required to use this feature. Miitomo is not available in all countries / regions.)
– You can now find friends from your Nintendo Account.
– Game Center / Google Play achievements have been implemented.
– Other changes and improvements.

More Toads..... again ? XD
Let's see...
Angry Toad (Red)
Hungry Toad (Orange)
Hippie Toad (Yellow)
Zen Toad (Green)
Crybaby Toad (Aqua)
Bold Toad (Indigo)
Regal Toad (Purple)
Wonder if that Miitomo integration will find its way to Switch avatar selection. Always thought that might be a big point of the plan for Miitomo.
@Julien Or they could be talking about the in-game purchase to unlock the rest of the game.
@switchvogel
Note: An in-game purchase is required to get certain color Toads required to unlock all buildings.
Is the business model about to be changed?
IMO £9.99 is too high for the casual gamers and Nintendo would make more money if it cost £4.99 with micro-transactions.
@ThePoochyKid Good point!
@aaronsullivan completely agree, would have loved to have my switch avatar dress up all funny!
I don't get the appeal of the town building segment. It seems entirely pointless, the meat of the game is the 6 short worlds you get and just trying to play them well?
@RupeeClock I would argue the meat is in Toad Rally, I play that way more. It's endlessly replayable, and I usually just play for a couple minutes at a time.
@Julien I'm assuming they're referencing the ten dollar paywall. I think the purple toads don't show up till the second world.
@Julien
I think it's too high for most gamers (on a mobile phone) not just the casual crowd
As you say it if was priced at 4.99 they would probably make a lot more money because more people would be likely to buy it on impulse.
At 9.99 they're simply being greedy
I think its well worth the ££! A very well made fun game..its a top brand.
You wouldnt get Gucci for free or pay per wear..so why should Nintendo.
@Toadsfriend For hardcore gamers that frequent this site maybe, but not the casual crowd. I'm talking from a business perspective to maximise Nintendo's ROI (return on investment).
Be interested to know how many people that post in these comments also wear Gucci! (Closest I get to high-end fashion is a t-shirt from Nintendo World NY.)
And still no Daisy...
No extra stability?
I played this for a while after purchasing, but quickly lost interest. While the Toad Rally is amusing for a few minutes, it lost it's appeal quickly. These days it is back to youtube for quick amusements when bored.
It's a pretty good game but no way I'm gonna spend £9.99 on it.
I tried the game yesterday but could not figure out how to simply close the app. Is there an option to exit the game in a menu? I had to go to my phones home screen and clear the cache to close the game instead.
I like achievements, but don't like that game..
Glad Nintendo continues to update the game and add content/achievements.
This game is far deeper than credited ...the levels reconfigure for each color coin and getting them all is NOT easy. Toad Rally continues to be a feed my competitive soul. And I like fitting out my Kingdom.
I've been having a lot of fun with this game since it finally debuted on Android last month. I like almost all aspects of the game, I enjoy the Toad Rallies, the Kingdom Builder (even if it could use some more flexibility), and the main game. I like how the levels change somewhat with each different colored coin objective.
Is it worth $9.99? It could be a little high for mass market appeal, but for a game without any microtransactions and of very high quality in terms of graphics and sound, my ten dollars was worth it and continues to be.
I hope we get an achievement system on Switch at some point. Always feel like something's missing when playing on a Nintendo system these days!
Once more with feeling:
"Where's the Switch release?"
@RupeeClock I didn't either, until I played it. There's just something satisfying about it, kinda like animal crossing. Not that one would spend hours on it, but it's a nice to have distraction for messing around. I've seen people for example building blue & red segregated villages, all-special-block islands, all-goomba-statues islands, and so on. I just wish the game allowed you to take a screenshot of your whole kingdom to share easily
@bluedogrulez Totally agree on the deepness of the game, it's definitely well worth it. However, they chose the lamest achievements possible, at least on iOS. They should have added an achievement to beat each special coin level, that way one would have a reason to beat the black pipe level other than bragging rights.
Does it work offline or on rooted phones? yawn...
@NL: "Note: An in-game purchase is required to get certain color Toads required to unlock all buildings." Is that accurate? I'm seeing (iOS, North America) the toads required for the new buildings as being of the standard colors.
It appears that they added in Google Play Games/achievement support into the apk, but the achievements aren't yet live on Google Play Games.
Load up the Google Play Games app and search for Mario Run. There should be a "My Achievements" tab, but there is not. Well that explains why it is not working in-game yet. Someone was a bit too quick in releasing this patch.
I'm happy that they continue to update the game with new contents and features. Makes the $9.99 more worth it for me.
I still play miitomo regularly with friends, so seeing that work with Mario Run makes me hopeful that the Nintendo switch could also work with it.
@Julien If they are going to add micro transactions like that they better make it free.
Need friends on Mario run mobile
