Game of the Year awards keep on coming and the D.I.C.E. Awards are the latest to be announced, the lucrative ceremony also serving as the conclusion to this year's D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit. Nintendo has managed to scoop some awards from this event in the past, and despite a relatively quiet 2016 has managed to pick up a couple more wins (in collaboration with major partners, of course).
It's all about Pokémon, in the end - Pokémon GO won Mobile Game of the Year, which is unsurprising as it was a smash hit that went viral during last summer. Pokémon Sun and Moon won Handheld Game of the Year; of course!
If you want to know the other winners, they're below.

Booo...
Disappointed...
Nintendo should kick those ass on this year.
Role-Playing/Massively Multiplayer Game of the Year as a category feels rather strange. MMGs have evolved and not just RPGs these days.
While i can understand Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year as a category i feel it would also be better to split it up.
What version of SF did win this time? I am losing track. Beside that all very good games and deservingw inners.
@Anti-Matter Stop treating Nintendo like the greatest of all time. They're not going to win at everything and that's okay.
@Sinister I know. They also lump all the handheld games in one category. It's weird. No puzzle category either..
Were there any other major handeld retail games released on 3DS in 2016 besides pokemon?
Good results overall. I think the winners deserved their respective awards, although I would argue DOOM technically had better game design than Overwatch. Both games were great though!
@KTT Kirby, Fire Emblem and Monster Hunter come to mind. Rhythm Heaven wasn't a major release but still extremely fun.
@Anti-Matter I'm curious, what games do you think should have won instead? Just asking.
@Octane Yet they have a category for VR which really isn't an actual gameplay "genre." Their categories seem to be all over the place.
Hm...the Uncharted nomination I can agree with providing they didn't screw up near the end writing-wise (like the previous 3 games). Anyone know if that's the case with 4?
To tell you the truth it's a popularity contest. Pretty much every title that won an award is a AAA game or a huge brand. Unless they have a separate section for indie games it's very hard to take these awards seriously.
@PotatoTheG
Well... at least (for year 2016 games) Pokemon Sun / Moon and Paper Mario Color Splash should be on that award. I don't expect much or should have won on all categories. To see at least one of my favorite games wins the category just make me happy.
@PotatoTheG Kibry is a platformer, one of the easier platformers, but FE and MH sounds competitive enough. Thanks for the reminder.
congrats to all of them! btw superhot is awesome and can probably run on a pocket calculator. that should be a switch game.
Glad Ratchet and Clank was recognized, I love that series and the reboot was great.
@Ernest_The_Crab What do you mean by that? Uncharted 4 is my personal favourite out of the 4, so.. that's something I guess? The writing is definitely less cheesy than the previous three games, you can definitely see the influence of TLOU. It's also the most distinct game I think, not just visually.
@Anti-Matter Color Splash might've had a chance if they had a 'total disaster' award, it would've ended up there right after No Man's Sky and Star Fox Zero
@Octane
Well... at least one of "Grammy" award for Nintendo games, not the "Razzie" award.
Breath of the Wild should hoover up a few awards ceremonies next year. Glad to see Uncharted 4 got a lot of love, that game was amazing.
@Octane Yeah I meant the cheese from the first 3 games. Haven't played the 4th
No Man Sky really would take Total Disaster award, probably by a landslide too considering how broken it was.
How the heck did Overwatch win 'action game?' They should really have a shooter category, because Monster Hunter Cross is the clear 2016 action game winner.
Overwatch dominates and I'm glad it's a good game
These kind of awards are nonsense, worse than Academy Awards and Grammy awards.
They just give the biggest selling and most hyped all the applicable awards.
Fighting Game of the year: Street Fighter V
Why? Because it's the biggest name franchise.
I wouldn't be surprised if these awards were simply sold and paid for.
@Mr_Zurkon Loved Ratchet & Clank too, but was very disappointed about the 30fps framerate. ): Loved the arcadey smoothness of the previous games and actually skipped Nexus due to the same thing.
@Ernest_The_Crab Uncharted 4's story is fantastic and gets better as the game progresses. I never wanted it to end.
@JohnnyC Agreed. U4 was my GOTY for 2016.
