Runbow has proven to be one of the top-tier 'Nindie' downloads that we saw on the system, and since it first landed in 2015 it had DLC additions and improvements. With Runbow Pocket also on the way it's been a successful debut 18 months for 13AM Games, which has also brought the title to Steam on PC. and moved into publishing with Pirate Pop Plus.
The 13AM team has now got in touch to share some updates with us on its recent progress. It's a mix of good and bad news, and it's all explained below.
Hello to all of our friends over in Europe! Thought we would reach out and answer a few of your questions about our activities of late.
First, the bad news. It looks like after months of trying to find distribution for Runbow: Deluxe Edition in the EU, we are going to officially say that it can no longer be done. We've met with a lot of distributors (a lot of distributors), and the fact of the matter is that the Wii U retail support is starting to wind down over in Europe. If you guys are as excited as we are about the Nintendo Switch, then you understand how retailers are looking forward to this new platform. We're sorry we couldn't make it work, and really appreciate everyone's positive attitude trying to make this dream come true.
Also, we recently had a DLC sale that, due to some clerical errors, didn't fully work in the EU and Australia / New Zealand region. To make up for that, we are launching the Runbow DLC sale only for Europe, starting on February 2nd and going right up until February 16th! Everything, from Satura's Space Adventure, through to each individual costume and music pack, is on sale for 50% off in all the NOE territories. Special thanks goes out to our community members who pointed out the issue on Twitter, and the press outlets that have helped us run this story!
As for all of your questions regarding Runbow Pocket, we've had some delays but we are working on a release date for you as we speak. We can confirm the game has entered certification, so get ready...

It's a pity that the Wii U Deluxe edition won't come to Europe, though it's not exactly surprising. On the plus side the New 3DS Pocket version is clearly getting close, now aiming to pass the final certification hurdles.
Let us know if you're planning to grab any discounted DLC - or whether you're awaiting Runbow Pocket - down in the comments.

I'm just speaking from North America, and I have never bought any of their stuff, but I believe it is a good quality to have when they admit they cannot do something and tell the fans. It is disappointing, but at least it's a definitive answer that doesn't cost people run around in circles just trying to find out.
Runner 2 was one my favourite Wii U games. I really hope they release it on eShop for Switch. It's the perfect on the go game
@LordGeovanni If you've got a Wii U, try Runner 2. It's a very addictive game.
@Monkeyofthefunk Played Runner 2 all the way through myself and loved it. Perhaps we may see Runner 3 on Switch.
Why would they even bother trying to release a retail Wii U game in Europe? If they had an ounce of common sense, then they would have devoted their resources to ensuring that this game would have made it in time for the launch of the Switch. =/
Sure hope a port or even a sequel will come to the Switch. Never played Runbow before but I think it's best enjoyed in local multiplayer and my WiiU has already hit the cellar so I'll just wait for a Switch release.
Saying that they can't release it to the fans now is better than just leaving them in the dark for what seems like eternity and pray that the game will release there. I'm sure other indie publishers are paying attention! coughnicalesCough
@Folkloner I hope so. I couldn't put Runner 2 down.
"Also, we recently had a DLC sale that, due to some clerical errors, didn't fully work in the EU and Australia / New Zealand region."
It did not "fully work", what does that mean?
So there was a previous sale in Europe? When? And how did it not work, did it only work for some customers?
Hope one coming for the switch too, I love runbow
Lol. I thought they were skipping the EU completely until I read that it's only about the retail version. Who cares for the retail version? Just download the game from the eshop and be happy.
@sillygostly Well not everyone is a traitor (like Playtonic, for example). I applaud 13AM games for continueing the Wii U support.
@Monkeyofthefunk If you don't mind me asking, what does Runner2 have to do with Runbow?
@LordGeovanni Well if you're thinking about getting Runbow, I can only recommend it. It's certainly one of the best indie games on the Wii U, for me it's right at the top together with Affordable Space Adventures (or maybe just behind ASA, can't decide).
@Monkeyofthefunk Well I got Runner2 on my Wii U, and while it's a nicely designed game, it wasn't even remotely as fun as other platformers. It just becomes really repetitive quickly (although some of my friends found Runner2 quite addictive as well and played it extensively on my Wii U ) and - of course this is personal preference - I don't like it that you can't move your character freely. Instead I would recommend Runbow anytime.
