You've gotta give the developers of Pokkén Tournament credit, they've kept the game going for quite some time post-release with new characters. Though the Wii U version hasn't really gotten the benefit of receiving these new fighters, their existence in the arcade version mean that there's always a chance that an update might go out patching some of them in. Earlier this week, it was announced that a new fighter would be revealed later on, and the day has finally come.
Empoleon is the new fighter, which likely doesn't come as a surprise to many. Data-miners found information in an earlier update of the game which indicated that Empoleon would be coming at some point in the future, so now they've obviously decided to follow through.There's no footage of Empoleon in action at the time, but it's likely there'll be a trailer in the next few days.
What do you think? Will the Wii U version ever get the new fighters? Who else do you think would be a good candidate? Share your thoughts in the comments below

Bleh, not a fan of this particular Pokemon, but what can you do.
Still wishing for that Switch port though.
Gosh...!
Look at that detailed feather.
Well, wanna see again on Switch.
Sawk would be great for next candidate.
He is a Fighting Pokemon anyway.
Oh man, the Pokkén characters just look so beautiful!
I would love to see something like Tapu Koko or Hakommo-o in this art-style.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll just be watering my Pikmin.
Lol I never really realized how ridiculous Empoleon's design is. Sword hands!
@Expa0 Here Here!
Best Pokemon. Sold.
One of my favorite Pokémon. Weird texture though, I always imagined he'd be pretty smooth.
Wii U isn't getting jack anymore; get used to it. I also bet Zelda will be Switch exclusive.
@Zach777 No way, there'd be riots in the streets if that happened. Nintendo would never live it down. Still, I'm sure the Switch port will be far superior to the Wii U version.
@MitchVogel
Riots in the streets!!! That's rich... from the mega install base of Wii U owners? I see it now... fifty people who still use their Wii Us angrily protesting around the world.
I'm only kidding don't worry. I preordered Breath of the Wild just yesterday for Wii U. Just saying I wouldn't be surprised at this point if they scrap the Wii U version. Otherwise they need to make another Zelda game that will be exclusively for the Switch in five years...
@Zach777 There are dozens of us!
If they priced these bonus characters like Smash dlc then I would buy it!
Pretty good
They'll probably hold them back for Switch like the rumored Cloud and Bayonetta amiibo and hopefully Wii U will get them at the same time.
And even though it's just a rumour, the fact that Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta amiibo still have officially been shown yet makes it seem very likely they are waiting for the Switch port of SSB. Heck, Zelda amiibo release tomorrow and they don't even have a game, Nintendo is getting all Zen on its toys to life toys which don't release beside a game, they're just toys, no life. Should have released Cloud and Bayonetta now, Zelda after the game alongside the other 3.
But good to see the continued arcade support, it should make its way to Switch eventually since Nintendo is switching it's all its Wii U games to it, the real meaning behind "switch". "Nintendo Port" sounded too much like a harbor for boats.
there are 4 spots free in the wiiu roster. a dlc with those 4 fighters would be nice. christmas dlc...
@MitchVogel you think they'll add more characters for the switch? There are so many pokemon missing.
Great! Now if this can just come to Wii U I'll be playing this game again!
I hope the new fighters will be released on amiibo cards (like Black Mewtwo) that can be used on both Wii U and Switch. That way you could sell or bring your "DLC" with you when you upgrade your system.
@polivar4 If a Switch version actually happens, then yes. I don't know if they'll do it, though.
