The latest Pokémon GO update is rolling out at the moment and - as ever - dataminers have been digging into the code to find out exactly what goodies it has in store.
It would appear that this update is laying down foundations for quite a few significant changes to the game, including genders for monsters, Pokémon costumes and shiny variants. It also contains sound files for the next 100 monsters - which should be coming soon.
Tweaks have been made to the "nearby" tracking feature, and there's a new "buddy" position: baby. This adds weight to recent rumours that you'll be able to breed Pokémon in the game soon.
Finally, it would seem that we'll be able to customise our avatars a little more in the near future, which will come as a relief to those tired of the fact that there's not much scope for individuality in the game at present.

Ugh, of course the game is starting to get good now that my phone can no longer run it. At least my level 23 account is still available if I ever get a better phone.
Heard about this yesterday & was really happy that Niantic is finally starting to make improvements to the game rather than minor tweaks... though of course "minor text fixes" is still listed for the update!
From what I have heard about things found, the code has been tightened up a bit too so there is less drop/lag when you access Pokéstops as well.
I'm not sure the "baby" buddy position means breeding, it could just be a new position for the prevolutions from Gen2.

This is what you get from ignoring the updates and keep focusing on nerfs. Hope they learn.
I would be excited if they have more customization for your trainer, I dislike having the same/similar style as everyone else.
@Crimzonlogic yeah I had a 4s that was technically supported but on the App Store it never said it was supported lol. Now I have a SE so it's great now
Looks like they are taking gen 2 slowly... as they should... they need to be really careful with how they add it or it could completely ruin the game.
This isn't the first evidence of shiny Pokémon we've seen... it'll be a fun novelty, but I doubt it'll have the same appeal as in the main games, due to the inability to shiny hunt.
Breeding (the hint for which is more in the genders than the baby buddy position... which I'm thinking will just allow you to hold small buddy Pokémon) could be handy for getting rare Pokémon with good stats, but they'd need to improve eggs first... discarding unwanted ones and differentiation between found and bred ones will be essential.
More trainer customisation was kind of expected... but extending that to Pokémon costumes is a little unexpected... as long as they keep the cost reasonable, it should be a fun addition.
Baby just refers to the pre-basic evolution pokemon such as pichu, magby, electabuzz, smoochum, etc.
