The world keeps on spinning, and today brings the Media Create chart results out of Japan. It's a slightly strange week from a Nintendo perspective, as it has positives to consider despite the absence of meaningful new releases.
Number one this week is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on PS4, one of four new titles in the software top 10. In fact, the entire top 10 is on PS4 and PS Vita, with Monster Hunter Stories leading for 3DS in 11th place; also of note is the fact that Capcom's spin-off crept past a quarter of a million physical retail sales. A number of evergreen titles on 3DS and Wii U are in the bottom-half of the top 20, but the overall results make good reading for Sony.
- [PS4] Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (SIE, 11/04/16) – 105,764 (New)
- [PS4] Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (Bandai Namco, 11/02/16) – 66,035 (New)

- [PSV] Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization (Bandai Namco, 10/27/16) – 15,732 (85,381)
- [PSV] World of Final Fantasy (Square Enix, 10/27/16) – 14,757 (61,917)

- [PS4] Berserk and the Band of the Hawk (Koei Tecmo, 10/27/16) – 4,582 (32,751)

- [3DS] Kirby: Planet Robobot (Nintendo, 04/28/16) – 3,618 (463,747)
- [PSV] My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO! Game (5pb., 10/27/16) – 3,287 (22,556)
Moving on to hardware, however, and with a certain dual release around the corner the 3DS is still doing just fine. The New 3DS LL (XL) is still comfortably in second place and recorded a solid gain, with increases on all models of the portable apart from the original (and now barely relevant) 3DS LL. The Wii U is still struggling despite a small increase.
- PlayStation 4 – 32,041 (30,375)
- New 3DS LL – 19,798 (15,151)
- PlayStation Vita – 9,816 (10,392)
- 2DS – 7,122 (7,103)
- New 3DS – 3,807 (3,090)
- Wii U – 2,071 (1,898)
- PlayStation 3 – 735 (610)
- 3DS – 408 (244)
- Xbox One – 181 (335)
- 3DS LL – 47 (72)
There are bigger weeks to come for Nintendo in the Japanese charts, but all told it'll likely be pleased to see solid hardware momentum even in the absence of new game releases.

Wii U saw the slightest of increases. And 3DS had a decent week. There's a chance Minecraft on Wii U could eventually pass 200,000 copies.
OK, the Wii U IS dead, but the final nail in its coffin will only be when the system sells less than the Xbox One in Japan. That day hasn't come yet!!!
it's odd how 3DS games are selling so badly but the hardware keeps selling very well ahah
That Japanese ad is weird.
I guess people are still buying the so called limited edition 3ds
I'm sure people are preparing themselves for Sun & Moon.
I wonder how this will change when Pokémon Sun & Moon are out. ^_^ It will be a good time for Nintendo to put it lightly.
We even have Bus advertising in the UK for Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon!
There are not many places selling new PS3 consoles in Ireland and the UK. I was considering getting a spare.
The sales make some sense with Pokémon Sun and Moon next week. You might even have some people pre-loading the digital versions.
Seeing Mario with the belt in mario maker and in this picture, makes me want a costume change with a tool belt. It could hold different powerups. Yes.
Mario's bare legs should never be seen by the human eye. It looks just wrong!
@MadameSpuki
Let's the hype of Sun / Moon begin.
And the sales will boost like a rocket.
Yay! Let's inadvertantly celebrate a lacklustre release schedule for the 3DS! Yippee?
Haha, just joking, really glad to see things are still holding up. With Sun & Moon coming soon we should see a good boost to hardware & software sales.
2017 has to be better.....right......RIGHT! Sorry.......I'm a little on edge today and I haven't had enough alcohol today
Color Splash is doing so modest!
Plaid with stripes and polka-dotted shorts?
Ugh. Japanese Mario is a fashion disaster. With games like Style Savvy on the same platform, you'd think he'd know better. Luigi would never try to pull off something so ridiculous.
@plug313
well, this chart is only for physical copies, right?
I mean, I get all my games digitally on 3DS. it's waaaay more convenient to have a digital library for a handheld mobile console. I hate when I run into people who play smash, but say " oh, I don't have the game with me right now, sorry".
home console, yeah, I can understand physical's pluses and digital pluses, but for mobile gaming, digital is just better... especially because if the game ejects itself, your game freezes and you lose unsaved progress! My girl regrets it every few days not getting animal crossing digitally.
@khaosklub To be fair it's A LOT cheaper to play retail copies. I remember I managed to play a lot of games in early years of 3DS while being on tight budget, just because I would sell the game I finished for 80% of the original price or I would trade them.
My motto is just look at the Xbox sales, then Nintendo sales aren;t that bad.
@ErnisDy
well, for budget gamers, price matters most to them, but that being the case, they likely buy used copies of the games anyway, not adding to this chart.
The ones who really add to these sales are people with the disposable income and really want a physical copy.
Games like Mario Party Star rush is better digitally, because it's multiplayer, and not meant to be played continuously. You never know when you will want to play it, and it's not all that practical to carry the game with you all the time. It's also not likely to be a game to be traded in by many, since it's one of those spur of the moment games.
RPG games, and other such that have no replay value, people will probably get physically so they can trade it in later. I have no idea what kind of game monster hunter stories is, but I think monster hunter is better as a physical copy, since new versions come out often and you can trade in to upgrade. it's also a long game that people likely play continuously, and thus will just keep in their console until they finish it. stories a spin-off though, right? so I'm not sure which way it'd go, but there are plenty of digital only gamers who'll get it digitally regardless.
@cfgk24 I saw that myself! It made me so happy to see Pokémon Sun/Moon get the attention it should have. :')
@MadameSpuki We are expecting record Sales the month!
