The Mini NES isn't far away, and could be a popular gift in the Holiday season. Pre-orders have been limited and relatively tough to come by in Europe, while in North America it seems the strategy for most stores will be to have them in-store only, which could prompt a bit of a rush on 11th November.
For those that are lucky enough to nab one it's sure to be a fun addition to their gaming library, and Nintendo Minute's latest video takes a look at the system. It's one of the most fun episodes in a while, we reckon, as both hosts struggle with the Mario Bros. controls before Kit shows off some skills in Super C.
Here's hoping that Nintendo makes enough of these to satisfy demand - are you planning to pick up a Mini NES?

I refuse to watch this or any episode of Nintendo Minute ever again.
Only Nintendo could make naming this device such a farce!
Can't wait to get it though, have had it and an extra joypad preordered since they were up.
@GravyThief You're lucky, no pre-orders here which makes no sense at all. So it's first come first serve, and I have to work that day. My only saving grace is that I'm already in a mall, making a delivery across the hall from a Gamestop.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE What's wrong?
@luigifan624 I do find it perculiar how the UK has an excellent official Nintendo Store (where I've got my preorder from) yet the UK is probably Nintendo's weakest market in the west, by some distance.
i watch these for the girl.
@GravyThief quality, not quantity!
@GravyThief I would say there is a correlation and maybe even a causation involved. You can do so much more when the numbers of customers you are managing is so much less.
@Jamotello Haha. You said it with far fewer words than I did.
@GravyThief your totally right.
I'm preferential to the MiNES myself.
lol. What a surprise! (O.O )
The baby-nes looks a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. It's bigger than Krysta's hand!
Nintendo Minute is still going on??? I thought they finish that video series a while back. I don't really see the point of this video series now. It's very Nintendo America, but it is also very old Nintendo. NES mini looks cool but I'll wait until GameCube mini as that was when I first played Nintendo games.
I would love an Nintendo 64 mini. That console is the most aesthetically pleasing of all their consoles to date.
@Galactus_33 does the 64 even have 30 games worth playing?
That short controller cord cancelled my purchase.
@SuperDjayIsHere that is rather tragic there are countless gems. It is of course debatable but you are certainly missing out on most of the greatest games ever made (even if you utilize the virtual console).
@Utens-mobile if you don't know this already than the above comment applies to you as well.
@DiscoGentleman "kingdom hearts rererelease"
I think you need another "re". Funny - and even related - story. Saw that PS4 news and thought I would get it, but then remembered my library has Remix 1.5 and 2.5 on PS3, so I'm going to start now and re-play those on PS3 and then I'll pick up the 2.8 and 3 on PS4 where they belong.
On topic - I just realized the NES Mini and PS4 Pro release on back to back days. Kind of shows the difference between Sony - going forward - and Nintendo - going back, this holiday.
I bet the NES Mini could have outsold the Pro this holiday - some people will still get Slim, it's $100 cheaper and not everyone has a 4k TV - but I have a feeling Nintendo won't make enough. Would nice to be pleasantly surprised for a change though. Walk into every store and see 5 or 6 of these available on the shelf at all times.
I imagine this could sell all holiday long - from everybody picking them up day 1 to people picking them up Christmas Eve thinking "oh, it's only $60, why not". Probably not so much after the holiday, but every day between Nov 11 and Christmas Eve. If they keep the stock on shelves where people can make an impulse purchase. Some people won't buy what they can't find.
And they better get enough stock on Amazon, which currently only has the email alert. So much shopping in the US tkaes place on Amazon.
https://www.statista.com/topics/846/amazon/
If it isn't on there, people will just buy something else on Amazon, can't let those 63 million Prime accounts go to waste. If it isn't Prime eligible Nintnedo isn't doing it right.

More bearable than usual, but still too bland.
Two things I was hoping for:
1. Nintendo releases an official plug/ lead for this.
2. Official released controller extension cables.
Sadly neither have been announced, yet.
I live in the UK and I have pre-ordered two consoles*, 1 from Game with an extra controller and the other= Amazon. Really strange that pre-orders haven't been taken in America. Also I was hoping to buy a famicom mini from Playasia but on the website it kept saying 'pre-orders taken soon' then I went on there the other day and it says that they have been sold out....
not good.
*I only two I'm hoping to use one of the consoles and keep the other one sealed for a collection, also I've ordered three separate controllers....
@SLIGEACH_EIRE lol, based on your user icon it seemed like you were going to say "never speak to me or my tiny orange lower case i children ever again"
I'm with you though; I've never watched one of these (which I'm good with and I'm not buying a Mini anyway!) — even too cringey for me!
Can they marry each other already...
Eh, it's harmless guys, just a bit of craic, don't take it personal!
Annoying presenters but was good to see footage of the system in action. so glad i pre-ordered this! this is actually my first home console bought since the wii!
Is he cute or nah?
Like the save states but still not getting it good 🎁 Though ... especially for buddies of mine to relive their nes days... but that short controller!
gr8 bantz in this video. hope my pre-order shows up!
What an awkward couple. Makes it hard to watch! :-/
Damn, Kit was killing it!
@hieveryone I have bad news for you.
It'll obviously sell but many of us are waiting for a SNES edition which offers a little more meat and potatoes gaming than the nes
@samuelvictor Sucking at Mario Bros just seems normal to me, especially considering the key differences in controls and game rules (I can't jump on a koopa troopa? That's bull*qbertlanguage*!). It's just plain harder than Super Mario Bros, at least until you get a handle on the handling.
As for Super C? Well it had to stand in for its predecessor Contra, which was (in the US) one of those games that was symbolic with the era.
I want one but not enough to camp outside of Gamestop.
Yea, I grew up with the NES so this is a pretty awesome release! I don't understand all the ppl complaining saying they want a Snes mini and gamecube mini, chances are the snes mini will happen, gamecube mini probably won't happen, but maybe gamecube virtual console on switch might!
Also, I'm great at all genres of video games and been playing for years, and I too also suck at the original Mario bros game lol I always liked Donkey Kong and Galaga more
@samuelvictor they might intentionally suck so any kids watching feel awesome because they do it so much better than adults.
Looks great but they really didn't think cord length through. Perfect for plugging the controller into a Wiimote, sure, but you'll need to be about three feet from your set with this thing.
My Birthday is the week after launch, so... I think I'll have to push this to the front of my list. Sorry, Paper Mario, you'll have to wait for Christmas.
I'm very tempted to try to get one of these at launch. It looks awesome, the games are awesome, and it's just a cool device. That said, I doubt I'd play it very much (due to a combination of limited time, and a massive backlog of games), and I already own many of the games on the Wii/Wii U. I think it would fairly quickly be relegated to a shelf or closet. Add to that limited money so close to the holidays, and you have a very conflicted consumer. But it's just such a cool item...
@Jamotello: "i watch these for the girl." - I think a lot of us do. I do, when I actually watch, but this time, I also watched for a look at the system.
@Ryu_Niiyama: I don't doubt this will be an item/console people camp out for, especially if people don't pre-order. Simultaneously, I'm also sure that If, as @rjejr: said, Nintendo does not manufacture enough of these for store shelves, they will sell fewer during their store shelf lifespan, due to a lot of their sales for this being impulse purchases.
@TrueWiiMaster: I think this will be a hot ticket item/console, especially for those who are not so into the gaming hobby, as say, you, myself, or anyone else commenting here. I mean, I've seen my friends post on fb about this, earlier this year; the type of people you wouldn't expect to post video game related stuff. However, as I just said in my comment to @Ryu_Niiyama:, I think a lot of these purchases will be impulse buys(, provided Nintendo manufactures enough to keep shelves stocked). Gamers like you, & I already have most, if not all, of these titles. & for gamers, who aren't as into the (gaming) hobby, or have little connection to the Nes, I see this much more quickly, & easily going into a closet, box, basement, or attic. Because gamers like us already do have a lot of these games, I also see people like you, or I putting it away quickly. But then again, I'm really not too interested in this, nor have I been, since I knew about it. I already have an Nes(toploader), w/ most of the games I wanted for it.
Edit: @EveryoneElse: Maybe it's just me, but I noticed they chose Mario Bros., an arcade port, to show off, while they were using crt filtering. Maybe they didn't want to show off that particular filter, & the games they chose to show off, the filter is not too pronounced in.
@DiscoGentleman "the whole series is so convoluted that I'm not sure if I'm giving up on it or not."
I played 1 all the way thru, one of my favorite games. Then I played 2 about halfway and wasn't impressed. I never played any of the other ones but I have read the handheld games explain the home games so I'm hoping if I play the 6 straight thru it will make sense. I need something to play the next 6 weeks until Christmas, it's either Kingdom Hearts or Metroid: Other M, and I'm not sure I want to go back to a Wii game, I'm a graphics snob. Oh, Lego City Undercover is in the mix as well. Gotta play something, I'm a gamer in a family of gamers.
I dont mean to put anyone down that is excited about this. But nintendo has really messed up with this. They couldve made a really nice stand alone new NES but they limited it to just 30 pre-installed games, which makes the only real value in this the new NES controllers for use with a Wii which has no limit other than whats on the eshop store.
unrelated note: the nintendo minute girl bugs me for some reason lol. She has a sort of absent minded approach to everything they do without putting her heart into anything in the reviews. I guess she just appears fake to me
@samuelvictor Its almost like nintendo minute has a sorta improvisational tone to it....
@Capt_N No preorders in the US so this is going to be a pure first come first serve deal. Personally I am hoping the low stock is just a preliminary run even though I know better. They usually make holiday runs limited to their release season unless you are lucky to find a place that didn't sell through their stock. I remember when the zelda ds light and original 3ds came out I had to use contacts I had at Gamestop to secure one. However at this point I can't be bothered to take off work for a nostalgia item.
Krista totally sabotaged Kit in mario bros.
Ugh! I'm predicting this to get ugly just like the Amiibo launch. Similarly to the Amiibo launch where both my sons had rare amiibos on their Christmas list as #1 items, the NES Classic is #1 on both their list this holiday season and I'm worried that they won't make enough for the demand. They're already showing up on Ebay for around $140! The worst part about it is that Nintendo will flaunt it in commercials and put it into a Nintendo Minute Video but they won't make enough....hopefully I'm wrong.
@NX64: When he snatched the mini out of her hand, things got really awkward, lol!
@bluedogrulez Haha exactly! She honestly looks like she's "to cool" to be dealing in such matters. Compare that to the awesome chemistry with the Outside Xbox folks or that brilliant Alex chap on here... Truly painful to watch!! 🙄😅
