We've just recently seen the release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice in the West, and as the Tokyo Game Show heads towards its conclusion we now have an official video focused the broader franchise. Notably, Capcom is celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the series.
The video below is, naturally, in Japanese, and provides a sore reminder to Western gamers that The Great Ace Attorney never made it out of Capcom's homeland. Nevertheless, it's a nice reminder of the IP's impressive history.
There's also a rather flashy website for the anniversary, which you can check out here.
What are your most treasured memories of this franchise? Let us know in the comments.

Congrats to Ace Attorney. One of the main reasons I picked up a DS.
Don't forget the announcement of DGS2 for Japan, as well NintendoLife.
I didn't start playing until the first game was released on WiiWare and was hooked from day one. Never used the motion controls, a Wii remote's buttons was good enough. Still don't know how such an amazing timeless game only got a crappy 5/10 score on NintendoLife.
i've been watching the anime since it started airing, and i've really enjoy it too.
Wonderful over-the-top animey detective and logic-puzzle game.
Thank you very much for (almost) 15 years of fun.
Here hoping for many more to come. (and Great Ace Attorney localisation?)
I really enjoy this franchise. Too bad ace investigations 2 and the great ace attorney never made it outside japan
I recently started playing the fan translation of Investigations 2 known as Prosecutor's Path. Really enjoying it so far, it's intriguing. On case 2 right now.
@Bass_X0 5/10?? I looked at all of them and they've either been 8, 9 or N/A.
I played the WiiWare games back in '11, been hooked ever since.
I gotta say the Edgeworth games are of the same caliber (if not better?!)
They aren't including Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright? I know it's only half Ace Attorney, but it's still a brilliant game made by the series creator.
Also, the music in the trailer comes from the orchestral soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9a66JXmvYU&list=PLVrrd4lP9YrtRYj4WikEC9XgAbpPueksV . The orchestral and jazz remixes of the series' music is so good.
OBJECTION!!!
Anyone else think that the gleam on 15 looks like Pokemon Sun's logo?
I really wish Capcom would go back to releasing physical copies of the AA games here in NA.
Eventually the Great Ace attorney will be fan translated. Eventually ):
@buildz cant wait to see it not coming outside of japan
Speaking of which, Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 was announced at TGS. Another game that probably won't ever release in the US.
The Ace Attorney Games are one of the best series i´ve ever played.
Heh, never say never. I'm still holding hope for The Great Ace Attorney. Here's to hoping spirit of justice does well enough that they see they have a solid user base in the West. Heck, I'd gladly take Retail releases of the digital only games. Even if it means buying them again. A trilogy of AJ, DD and SOJ would be nice physically! Here's to an amazing series and to a bright future!
Will The Great Ace Attorney ever be released outside of Japan?
@Tasuki
Europe and UK doesn't get physical copies either.
What??? I remember when Capcom was 15 years old! Hhahaha what the hell, Ace Attorney is a young series, how could it be 15 already???
Have all the soundtracks....such great music! Igiari!
@Tasuki Agreed. I'm double dipping just to have a physical copy.
@ach Investigations 2 at least got a fan translation.
@Frosty_09 judging from your description, you probably mean case 3. Case 2 is the one taking place in prison. "Inherited Turnabout" MAY feel long, I suppose, but that's likely because there are effectively two cases in one.
Still one of my favourite video game series. Shu Takumi pulled off QUITE an achievement - proving that text adventures based on detective and court tales can be no less vibrant and exciting than many action games.
@Frosty_09 Just finished it, and I agree to the max that the new opposition is extremely annoying.
(SPOILERS FOR ANYONE ELSE WHO HASN'T PLAYED YET!)
Sebastian Debeste has a really terrible pun in his name and his ego was just downright annoying. I also noticed how incredibly stupid and air-headed he was. Justine Courtney was also very annoying in that she kept wanting to take Edgeworth's badge off him. I hope she gets her comeuppance by the end of the game.
When you say 'bad guy', you're referring to Dogen right? I'm assuming he doesn't come back.
I actually enjoyed Ray Shields. I like his theme and his personality, very smooth.
I have seen at least one person say it's a masterpiece while also saying that he thought the first Investigations was 'meh'. I'm enjoying it though and I loved Investigations too.
The case overall though? I enjoyed it very much. Loved how the suspect just changed from one to the other to the next. I loved the plot twists too and how the case unravelled itself slowly. It was a very enjoyable case overall.
Though I do tend to be a positive person, but I do get annoyed by certain things like the 2 characters I mentioned above.
@Aurumonado DIY
What will they celebrate this series' anniversary with? Fanart?
@Gauchorino No, a new game. The sequel to The Great Ace Attorney, which still hasn't released outside Japan.
The Ace Attorney series is easily one of my favourite video game series ever. My favourite memory without spoiling anything, would be just the entire Case 5 of Trials & Tribulations, simply of how it was a perfect culmination of one of the best trilogies ever, and had everything wrapped up perfectly (and especially the final moments of the case were some of my favourite moments in gaming ever). If I had to rank the games, this is how it would go (I'm still playing through Spirit of Justice, so I'll exclude it from here):
1. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations
2. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
3. Gyakuten Kenji 2/Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Miles Edgeworth: Prosecutor's Path
4. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies
5. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice for All
6. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
7. Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
@shonenjump86 First game I bought for (with) the DS together with 42 All Time Classics (Clubhouse Games)
@Peace-Boy Oh, I had no idea. Haven't been following the series, lately. I'm surprised that Capcom is celebrating any of their series' anniversaries with a new game, frankly.
@Frosty_09 I also thoroughly enjoyed Rise from the Ashes and Farewell, My Turnabout. With regards to Apollo Justice, there are certain aspects I truly love about it and by no means do I think that it's a bad game. As a matter of fact, I generally prefer Shu Takumi's work compared to the newer team.
I really enjoyed the dark, grittier, theme Apollo Justice had (but I'm not going to delve into details for the purpose of spoilers for people who haven't played it yet). AJ truly executed 'The Dark Age of the Law' much better than Dual Destinies did (one of my gripes with Dual Destinies was how it treated its audience like children—everything had to be explained completely to you, and 'Dark Age of Law' and 'yay friendship' would always just be shoved in your face).
With AJ, it really would've been much higher, but I feel Capcom just messed up. There was so much potential with it, and I feel like Capcom forcing Wright into the story and not letting Takumi have free reign really hurt the game, and you can tell Takumi had to do many things last minute.
