As expected The Pokémon Company has revealed a bunch of new details for Pokémon Sun and Moon, with a new trailer and website updates showing new Pokémon, a feisty team of rivals and more Alolan varieties of existing 'mon.
If this is giving you a sense of déjà vu, that's because the equivalent Japanese details were revealed earlier today; the localised trailer has the same core content, but features slightly different footage and all of those Western names and details we like so much.
Check it out below.

Let us know what you think of the new Pokémon, variations on old 'mon and those pesky Team Skull Trainers. As always we'll comb through the official website to bring you a gallery of the details and artwork very soon.

😴 not better than team rocket. Gen 1 or gtfoh
Team Skull looks awesome! I hope they came up with a really good plot for them in the game.
Now I want a Wishiwashi and want to name it 'Pizza Topping'.
"Team Skull has a BONE to pick with you!"

Lol, I didn't expect Team Skull to be so gangster. I'm hoping for them to be more carefree and just go round causing trouble to the establishment instead of the usual serious plot involving awakening legendaries and taking over or destroying the world.
The new pokemon and Alola forms look great, but wasn't much of a surprise since I already had some of it spoilt elsewhere.
Plot Twist: Guzma turns out to actually be DJ Master Seal in disguise.
Pokemon news is everywhere 😩 if it's not Sun/moon it's go... If only Nintendo at least put out the last of the smash amiibo and talked more about things not pokemon...
Different team, same generic plot I bet.
I'm digging the punk/gangster vibes that I'm getting from Team Skull. They already look more promising than the disappointment that was Team Flare in Kalos.
The new Pokemon are okay. Probably my favorite new face from the trailer is Pyukumuku, mainly for the appearance and punny name. XD
I like all the Alolan forms in this trailer, but my favorite is by far Marowak and its wicked new appearance. Fire/Ghost is one of my favorite type combinations. Also, that Alolan Raichu better learn Surf. XD
I'm really digging that surfing Raichu. Remember the Pikachu with the surfing minigame in Yellow? If you could ave evolved that Pikachu this could have been its evolved form.
no aloha form for Pikachu, (he is the mascot for pokemon, after all... )
@Yorumi Alolan Sandshrew and Sandslash are said to be slower than their ground type versions so there very well may be a stat change for Raichu and other Alolan variant Pokemon.
Is this the trailer that was supposed to come out later today/tomorrow or is there another one with the other Pokemon from CoroCoro?
@NintendoFan64 That could almost pass as a Sans pun
@Lady_rosalina Nintendo's not the one talking about Pokémon... It's The Pokémon Company International and Niantic.
@Yorumi Schooling doesn't work like evolution. I don't know why they skipped the part from the Japanese trailer where Wishiwashi returns back to the solo form after being attacked.
@Megas i remember in black and white the battle would speed up a bit after each turn. i reeeally wish they'd bring that feature back.
It would have been nice to make Raichu's Alohan form more Pikachu-like (cough more "marketable" cough), so that anime Pikachu can finally have an excuse to evolve (and perhaps introduce an Alohan Raichu-exclusive Mega form that could appear periodically in the anime as well). It's pretty pathetic that almost nothing has changed in the 20 years since the anime began, and there's almost no reason for long-time fans to continue watching. Soap operas are less formulaic/repetitive.
I'm disappointed that there are no Alohan forms for Pikachu and Cubone though. =( It seems nonsensical for a pure Ground-type to suddenly evolve into a Ghost/Fire type. I believe this marks the first time in the series that a Pokémon changes one type and gains another in the process of evolution. Azurill, who was a pure Normal-type prior to Gen VI, changed into a Water type upon evolving into Marill, but as of Gen VI, Azurill is now a Normal/Fairy type, so it still keeps at least one of its types (i.e. Fairy) upon evolution. Cubone has neither type in common with Alohan Marowak, which I believe is a first for the franchise.
Seems like a missed opportunity for Gen VII to introduce a tertiary typing (perhaps one that provides STAB, but is not factored in battle as far as weaknesses are concerned, but will be considered where immunities are concerned, negating the need for some existing Pokémon to have abilities such as "Levitate", such as Hydreigon, a Dragon/Dark Pokémon that can clearly fly and learn flying-type moves).
@sillygostly Eevee says hi. Speaking of which I wonder if alolan eevee will be a thinking considering it's whole shtick is adapting to environmental changes.

They need to make a pokemon based on this.
I want a Pyukumuku plush...
Also "IT'S CHA BOI! GUZMA IN DA HOUSE!" rap air-horn
@crimsontadpoles I kinda had the same thought, lol. They seem more like an urban gang than any other Team in the past has. I would have thought Unova would have had that type of gang, considering it's based on New York
@sillygostly I am too curious about Raichu and Marowak in relation to Pikachu and Cubone respectfully. Have they said the two don't have variant counterparts? Maybe there's an in game explanation as to why they change types after evolving. Maybe their's something in the Alola atmosphere or maybe something genetically with the Alola native versions of the two?
@Wolfgabe I bet they worked hard to come up with that one. They must have...worked to the bone.

@UmbreonsPapa the Japanese trailer shows them evolve from a normal Cubone and Pikachu. Also the websites information says that Marowak's connection to its partner has something to do with its change, and apparently no one on Alola knows or cares why Raichu changes that way.
Man wish Raichu would get a Mega Evo instead of a variant T_T
@sillygostly With sandshrew and vulpix they have Alolan forms. I think they just want Alolan pikachu to have a big reveal.
@Dryden Got a question for you. Which would you really prefer?
A Mega Raichu - Uses it's Item Slot on a stone, only once per battle assuming your team hasn't already used Mega Evolution in that battle. It gets +90 or 100 to it's base stat total, possibly a type or ability change. It keeps the same moveset as Raichu because well...it has to be a Raichu to transform.
or
Alolan Raichu - A form that is permanent, has a new type permanently, new stats, ability, moveset to match type, doesn't require an item to reach this state since it's natural, and can use a once per battle Z-Move just in case you want that item slot taken up by a rock.
Personally, I see this as far superior to Mega Raichu, as I can already get more out of it, and it's more interesting since due to its different stat distribution, ability, type and movepool (Something Megas don't get the luxury of), and since it's permanent, it wont just be a flash in the pan if you, an NPC or friend of yours uses it for the turn or two it is likely to be out in battle.
@Trinexx I can agree to that. Guzma definitely has ALOT more personality to him than mister "one tear" Lysandre. Let's just hope they get a good plot, or at the very least some memorable characters.
Finally some attention/love for Raichu (and not that damn Pikachu as always). I was counting on a Mega Evolution too but this Alolan form is way better overall. Remind me a bit of Raichu using Surf in the N64 Pokemon Stadium, now cuter (like a plush).
I can see Wishiwashi being the king of puns next gen.
@Yorumi Megas amplified the problem they set out to fix.
"To give older less viable pokemon new life". Like Aggron. And Garchomp. And Metagross. Yeah it did for some like Houndoom but I never see those Megas. It's normally the same Pokemon that would be used anyway only stronger.
This is permanence. I like that
Finally! Raichu is getting some love, and in the form of an awesome Alola Form. I'm a huge fan of Alola Forms, and Alolan Raichu might just be my favorite now.
How about an Alolan Pikachu?
Anyone?
No?
Okay...
@Yorumi Some were given to some less than stellar Pokémon. Manectric, Houndoom, Mawile etc. but those were completely negated almost entirely by already strong Pokémon that overshadowed them anyway, getting Megas to again stay in the spotlight. This is a permanent thing, at least if the Pokémon is caught or bred in Alola. It also opens up this Darwinian evolution for other regions. It has more legs and lasting appeal than megas because once it has one, it has one.
@Yorumi X and Y almost killed the series for me. All the improvements outside of graphics were for a competitive reason, and the main game had pacing, writing, progression and all other manner of issues even down to the encounter rates and how Kalos stuff was rare. I only got Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire because its a remake of where I started.
This game seems to continue the GameFreak tradition of taking the previous game into the yard with a shotgun and doing something else by removing loads of features, but unlike the jump from BW to XY, they are removing stuff that's not really that good anyway.
@Yorumi @BLPs
Hate to burst your guys' bubble, but I don't think Alola forms are going to fix that problem either - I don't see them making very many Pokemon more viable.
They provide a new twist on old Pokemon conceptually and gives them different typing, movesets, and abilities, but in most cases it's most likely NOT going to make them more viable. While some of the Alola forms have different stats such as Sandshrew/Sandslash, I'd be willing to bet that it's just a different distribution and that the BST is the same as the original. If there are any BST increases, they'll be minor.
A lot of these Pokemon would require a significant BST increase to become viable, and I don't believe Alola forms will do that.
That being said, if it's now possible to breed a regular Vulpix with Ice Beam, then things like that could make the original forms a bit more viable.
@IceClimbers Okay, viability wasn't the right term because that seems to only apply competitively and I don't give a rats ass about that outside of its good background noise, competitive players were all dicks to me so...
What I should say, is that in-game it makes better use. For all intents and purposes, its a new Pokémon, not an extension of one that may or may not be good or overshadowed by another already tough creature. I should word it like this.
Alolan Forms are a permanent change, a new Pokémon if you will, that allows the spotlight and new life to be breathed into a Pokémon. Competitively I don't give a damn, it may or may not. Mega Evolution was added to make older Pokémon more prominent and in the spotlight, but it backfired when said Pokémon were overshadowed by the same feature being attached to popular Pokémon anyway. This is where Alolan Forms excel. Its not an extension of a Pokémon with a competitive justification, its a Pokémon with a new lease of life entirely that doesn't have a pre-requisite snapped onto it like a vice, and yeah, Popular Pokémon may be given this treatment too, but it will stand equal in that regard as its not an extension of something you already love, its a new take on it entirely.
Its hard to explain and you probably wont give a toss but I just see it as a more worthwhile prospect and long-running idea than Mega Evolution...which admittedly once a Pokémon got it...that was it. As I said this can go across many regions. As a filthy casual gamer and developer, I like the concept of longevity more than one shot temp ideas, which is what Mega Pokémon where. One per battle, temp buffs.
Plumeri has a team skull tramp stamp on her front.
I have a theory that Guzma may not really be the one pulling the strings behind Team Skull. They usually leave the boss as a secret, so perhaps the boss of Team Skull is just using them to cause trouble while he/she goes after the legendary Pokemon, and then Guzma learns that he's being used and helps you? There's usually a big fight against the antagonists before the legendary after all, but then again this game is really changing the formula of the series...
Also, "GET SCHOOLED BY WISHIWASHI"
Do we REALLY need Alola forms???? This makes it more confusing than it needs to be.
@BLPs Well, we don't yet know whether or not the Alolan forms get new movepools, and while implied with the Sandshrew family stat rebalances may not apply to all of them either. Furthermore, you do sacrifice the ability to use the original form in Alola save for perhaps transfering from the old games. You may be right about them being vastly superior to Mega Evolution, but let's wait for more details before we proclaim it as certain canon.
@BulbasaurusRex pretty sure they do. Vulpix ain't using fire blast and ninetales clearly uses ice moves as does Sands lash. Raichu uses psychic too.
@Arcamenel : Eevee changes from a Normal type to a different type whereas Cubone changes from one type into an unrelated dual-type.
@Ziffy @UmbreonsPapa : I recall seeing some footage (possibly in the Japanese reveal) of the original Cubone and Pikachu evolving into their respectively Alohan forms, which is disappointing as I would love to see Alohan forms for Cubone, Pikachu and perhaps even Pichu!
@Shard1 how is it confusing. If it evolves in Sun and moon they will get aloan forms.
@Hinaru77 It's confusing to me because you can now talk about let's say Raichu and mean the Alolan form but then the other person thinks you are talking about the original one and then it all explains itself.
