There's no word yet on Etrian Odyssey V coming to the West, but with Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse already on the way it may just be a matter of time. Aside from that it was a positive week for 3DS games in Japan.

So happy for EO V. Can't wait till we get an announcement of it's release here!
I still think those are good numbers for it. If it gets over 150k life time over there that should still be pretty good.
Lets also not forget that it had to share the spotlight with other choices for a new 3ds game this week. Some might have went with another game for a week or 2.
Great, now we just need EOV to take example from Frodo and sail west.
@Spoony_Tech - Same. Also, I'm glad Puzzles & Dragon X is still holding steady there.
Nintendo continues to perform well in Japan. It will be interesting to see if the NX rumors are true and if so, what kind of sales it pushes next year.
I REALLY want EO5 right now, I hope we at least get a demo before the end of the year, but unlikely.
Game's probably hitting America in March-February season like most JRPGs.
Sadly these numbers are very soft .
The first puzzles & dragons sold over a million copies on 3ds, this one will be lucky to do 25% of that.
The trend is down on every franchise.
I'm glad 3ds is doing well compared to other games right now, but these numbers are increasingly a sign for concern. Negative trends across the board.
@Seacliff Yeah I think the Feb/March period will have Dragon Quest VIII, Etrian Odyssey V, and maybe Monster Hunter Stories.
Where'd you get the "less than half of the launch sales of Etrian Odyssey IV"?
The sales comparison on the NeoGAF thread says that EOIV sold 95k in the first week. That's only 3,000 more than EOV.
Edit: Also, apparently EOIV didn't have digital release when the game launched (it came later). So including digital, EOV probably had a stronger opening.
3DS = Good
Wii U = Bad
Splatoon saw a 76% increase over last week. Game doesn't want to die. Should see further increases as the Summer holidays for Japanese kids start soon.
Please fix the article, it sold half of Shin Megami Tensei IV launch sales, but close to EO IV launch sales.
@ThomasBW84 The "half the launch sales of Etrian Odyssey IV" links to the first week sales of SMTIV. Wrong game. EOV was in line with the first week sales of EOIV. Definitely doesn't continue the trend of sequels failing to match their predecessors!
As an Xbox One owner, I honestly have to ask why Microsoft even bothers in Japan anymore. The numbers are a joke at this point, and they have to be losing money on every system and game they package and sell over there.
Just give up on Japan Microsoft. Can't the money you spend over there be better spent in the NA(the Xbox's strongest market) and in Europe? Japan has made it clear that they don't care about the Xbox. Why do you pour money into a region that could care less about what you have to sell them.
Otherwise, good numbers for Nintendo. Good to see them doing so well in Japan.
that's a buttload of 3ds titles. would be a shame if the supposed lack of backward compatibility of the nx were true.
@IceClimbers Ah, my mistake, thanks for the heads up.
Thanks that Dragon Ball Fusions sold relatively well(for an anime game that is), I really hope it comes to the west.
REDY 4 EOV! "The End of the Long Myth", huh? Intriguing title, more so than "Legends of the Titan".
EOV is almost certainly a 2017 release for the West. Can't wait. I've played some decent gridders on the Vita, but none of them are good or original enough to fill that EO-shaped hole in my heart.
@Caryslan The only reason I can think of as to why Microsoft keep trying with Japan is for Public Relations.
@Piersen It's more of a matter of when. To date, every EO game has come out in the West.
@Charinzardon You slap Dragon ball on that label and you could sell anything relatively well... I for one cant wait 4 Fusions to be released here in te US
Doing a happy dance for EO V!
Come West, Dragonball Fusions (~HA!). I'm awaiting you with open arms ^~^)//
I didn't like EO:U 1 & 2 that much, I didn't really dig into the grimoire mechanic and the story mode (could've played on Classic after that, but never had the time when others games came). I'll wait and be aware of annoying mechanics before buying tyis one if it ever came to the west...
@Spoony_Tech yes eo did great! Next up is monster hunter story's in a few months and it's going to flop really hard unfortunately. Pokemon is 111 days away I think and is tracking ahead of X and y. Sun and Moon is going to be the biggest Pokemon game in Japan in quite a while.
@faint you really think it'll flop? How come? Just curious
Good debut for EOV. Did much better than EOU2(which is a bummer because EOU2 was waaaaaaaaay better than EOU)
Good debut for fusions as well. Long as it has decent legs it should make nice bit of cash(localize pls Bamco)
Puzzle and dragons doing meh. Probably decent compared to its budget because digital sales are doing good as well but nowhere near what Z did.
Pokemon continues to be boosted by GO and minecraft, Splatoon, Kirby refuse to die.
Dynasty warriors flopped pretty bad though. 6K is...ouch.n
Yokai watch 3 probably hitting a million total next week
@cyrus_zuo
It's because 3DS is getting old and has saturated the market. There is a lack of new buyers around to buy games.
They may also not be advertising adequately and trying to just coast on the success of previous games. Just a guess though as I obviously know little about advertising in Japan.
@MJInnocent well I'm not sure why the Japanese haven't been preordering. Maybe because it's a spinoff? At any rate the preorders are super super low for a monster hunter title.
@Caryslan because they can afford to. Simple as that.
@faint alright thanks, it looks beautiful I hope it does well!
The 3DS is a beast in Japan I'm glad it stays strong there i love mine it's become my all-time favorite system, there are so so many awesome amazing titles for 3DS; I hope Nintendo NX has the 3D effect .
Awesome! That has to be the best opening for an Etrian Odyssey, right?
Now, let's hope it comes west.
Each day hoping for a "Dragon Ball Fusion announced for NA". I just want to try it guys, come on. The idea behind it is really interesting and i have never played a game with that playstyle.
