The Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System (or Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition in North America) is likely to be found in quite a few stockings this festive season, and based on the frenzy that accompanied the announcement it could be a tussle to get hold of a unit. Yes, it has games that many eager gamers have bought multiple times but, well, it's cute and rad - sometimes that's enough.
Nintendo UK has started off a contest designed to play on its retro appeal, through a social media campaign. Up to 16th August it's inviting UK residents to post a photo (new or old) and some words on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #ILoveNES. Some blurb from the contest page is below:
The winning entry will be selected based on how entertaining, nostalgic and NES-themed the photo is, so the more it appeals to our retro-obsessed judges the better! In fact, we'd like to use the very best of these photographs in an upcoming Nintendo advert. Up to 20 entries may be selected to feature in advertising for the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System, selected based on how much they convey love and nostalgia for the NES!
The NUK Twitter account has already shared a few good entries, including those below.
Are any of you in the UK going to give this a go?

If you already have a collection like that I doubt you even need the NES mini. And since it's from far before my time I don't even have a collection to show off to enter the competition!
"is likely to be found in quite a few stockings this festive season"
I think Nintendo would prefer this was found under the tree, and some amiibo in stockings so people can be ready for the SSB port on NX. If this $60 mini-console is in people's stockings, that would probably mean a PS4 or Xbox 1 under the tree, which would at least delay those NX sales from March to the following holiday, if not end them entirely.
I'm not exactly sure how to make a NX marketing campaign out of "NES Mini now, NX later" but I would put a "$10 off NX" coupon in every NES Mini box. And every Tweet and FB post about NES Mini would end with "Brought to you by Nintendo, meeting all your gaming needs yesterday, today, and tomorrow. NX launching March 2017." Basically every mention of NES Mini would be accompanied by a mention of NX. Nintendo did a horrible job promoting Wii U to 3DS owners. Actually it wasn't hortible, more like non-exsistant. 1 game, SSB, that's it.
Seen it yesterday and I let my feelings be known to them. I was glad to see I wasn't alone in pointing out how they've once again excluded Irish residents from entering their competition. Funny how we were allowed to enter the Hyper Japan competition that gave people a chance to play the Zelda: BOTW demo. But then that didn't cost Nintendo a penny and we had to pay for any expenses occured in travelling over to the event.
Can I post an image rather than a photo? I don't have a camera and I don't really have much to take a picture of anyway (I had to get rid of most of my systems because I'm poor).
Come to think of it, I don't really have anything I could post that would really fit in with this competition.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Can I ask you something? If you have all these problems with how Nintendo treat Ireland, why are you always complaining about it here when you could be yelling down Nintendo's phone?
I'm just curious as you are quite vocal on it yet it doesn't seem apparent you are pursuing it correctly
@Grandpa_Pixel I told you I let them know about it and have done so before.
Gen 1 baby! We the best!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Ah okay, that makes a bit of sense. Thanks for the clarity. I thought I overlooked something
As expected, still no hint of a US pre order.
This has become a tiresome Nintendo trend.
I'm anticipating strategically limited supplies in North America and eBay gouging, per usual.
Please, prove me wrong, Nintendo.
@rjejr Man, who can afford having £50 gifts just in the stockings these days??? Post Brexit Britain the kids will be lucky if they get a tangerine😂
That Chris Scullion was a big 6 year old.
But....I want one because I don't have all that stuff already. If I did I'd just play that
@Phil_Kavadias Yeah, the truth is it's all about a bit of basically free publicity. I do wish I could have gotten involved and actually had some way of standing a chance of wining, but it's not really about that.
..I'll take "Contests America Can't Enter" for a thousand Alex...
@Phil_Kavadias it was gen 1 for me and it brought games back from the brink so it wins!
@nessisonett "who can afford having £50 gifts just in the stockings these days?"
The people who can afford to get a PS4K Neo or Xbox 1 S for $399 under the tree. So Nintendo won't be selling them an NX in March.
And still not on Amazon NA, nice going, Nintendo.
I wasn't even alive when the NES was out. But I would do just about anything for a Gamecube Mini. What a great system that was.
(^_^ )
Why the #$%@ isn't this ready for pre-order in North America? It's been out for weeks in Europe and in Japan. This better not sell out day 1 and become a scalpers paradise on eBay.
No because I won't win. By the way, did you guys forget about your fire emblem giveaway?
You guys are all missing the point. Nintendo is doing this competition for some easy advertising.
They're just giving away MiNESs as an incentive to enter.
Im not a collector, but Ill get two. One for me, and one for the future sale. I feel it will become very valuable with time.
