Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is sure to be near the top of a number of 3DS wishlists this year, and with its release getting ever closer Nintendo is stepping up its efforts to promote the Square Enix title.
The big N is starting a new video series that will gradually show off various aspects of the game, similar to equivalents that we've seen for the likes of Fire Emblem Fates and Xenoblade Chronicles X in the past year. In fact, the narrator's voice is even recognisable from some of those past campaigns.
The first video is a brief and broad introduction, but the series will be worth following for those on the hype train for this game's arrival.

This game will help me get through the start of a new year at college!
Day 7 purchase for me.
Gimme.
Nice looking remake, reminds of Dreamcast games, which is a complement for the 3DS, not a diss.
Very excited about this game!
Does anybody know if cuts have been made to the overall length of the game? The original had a 100 hour long play time for just the main quest. Is this still true for the remake?
This looks great!
My only issue is that I've heard it's quite episodic. Is this true? It's not putting me off the game or anything, I just kinda prefer continuous stories as opposed to a new little one every island.
I have this preordered. I honestly can't wait for this game. It's gonna be amazing and up there for my GOTY
Squeeeeeeeee!
> In fact, the narrator's voice is even recognisable from some of those past campaigns.
Which is unfortunate, because it doesn't come across well...
Sadly it's 3DS only, I think I will stick with the original on PS1.
It looks great! Definitely getting it.
It looks cool and I love JRPGs like nothing else, but roaming enemies are a huge pet-peeve of mine.
With random encounters I just battle every enemy I come across and generally end up in the level the game wants me to be without any extra grinding. With roaming enemies I'm obligated to battle every single enemy I come across since I don't want to be underleveled, but in the end I end up battling way more than I would with random encounters and thus end up overleveled.
Of the 3DS games that are scheduled for this year DQ VII is the only one that I will get Day 1. I signed the petition to have it localized so now I will put my money where my mouth is.
Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Chronicles X were both very over hyped and I think the 'wanting' faded after a while, specially here in the UK with Fire Emblem. It was not the hit it should have been.
Have you ever been to the movies and watched a trailer of the film on next week and you think that looks good. Next week you go to see the film and all the best bits were all shown in the trailer; there was nothing new to see.
That is what Nintendo is doing with its games.
@zool On the other hand, this game is a remake AND a game who was relased in Japan a long time before being announced here. Almost everything about it is already available on the Internet. I would prefer to see them have nice TV ads relying on Toriyama charming style and the 3DS family appeal to be sure the game release is known from a larger public. (Toriyama's name and styles are BIG here in France)
@PlutoPerson Not sure if it helps you, but the "remakers" added a function to not get lost anymore in the exploration. You are free to deactivate it but if you do not, it will prevents wanderings by pointing you a destination in every occasion (if I did understood right). You can find an article about those tweaks here on NintendoLife.
This reddit thread seems to support my argument: https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonquest/comments/2z1pfc/dqviiis_this_game_length_correct/
I hope those of you who never played this game enjoy it. I personally think it has the best story in the series, and the adventure is pretty epic. DQ 8 is = to DQ/W 7 to me, but if I had to absolutely pick one over the other, 7 would inch above 8. I own the ps1 DW 7, so I hope this 3ds version does the game justice and doesn't water it down like most of the other 3ds DQ's did.
Thank god somebody's doing it. Square Enix won't try anything to promote this game.
That said, I'm so excited for this release! I was googling for 2 years in search of a localization. It's finally happening!
Defiantly plan on playing this game!
@Miles_Edgeworth
It isn't, it is a remake of the PS1 original.
Oh ya. 2016 has officially surpassed the almighty 2013 as the best year for 3DS yet! Like a good wine it gets better with age.
Hype!
@Captain_Gonru I'm still waiting for Skies of Arcadia 2.
@JaxonH Should'a saved those vacation days. We got DKCTF out of the library. My kid beat the unbeatable 2-2 first try. I died on 2-3. I think I need to start over to warm up.
This game looks quite inferior to DQ8. It was a huge success both critically and commercially in Japan though so it must have something going for it.
Day one for me and am taking time of work for this game
