Just recently the Japanese social media Splatoon accounts confirmed that Sheldon's Picks Volume 2 will come on 7th / 8th June, depending on time zones. That'll also arrive as part of an update to version 2.8.0, which will make some more adjustments to the game while also bringing new weapons and gear.
Nintendo's issued a changelog, as follows:
New weapons and gear
- Nine new weapons added, available in the weapon shop Ammo Knights
- Please note: the new weapons and gear will appear in the shop following the release of the software update.
- Two new kinds of gear added, available in the shop
Weapon and ability adjustments
- Adjustments to main weapons, sub weapons and abilities. Click here for more information. (310 kB)
Stage adjustments
- Arowana Mall: Adjustments to prevent players from taking certain shortcuts in all modes.
- Bluefin Depot: Fixed a problem where players could go inside a certain object in Rainmaker mode.
- Camp Triggerfish: Adjustment for detecting when you have brought the Rainmaker too far back towards your own starting area
- Piranha Pit: Adjustments to prevent players from taking certain shortcuts in all modes.
Fixes for issues in battles
- Fixes an issue where players could jump higher than usual by touching an opponent's Splash Wall
Other changes
- Introduces several enhancements to improve the user's experience and enjoyment
Some interesting tweaks there, and it perhaps speaks to the ingenuity of online players that Nintendo is still having to adjust stages to cut off shortcuts, while weapon aficionados will no doubt take a good look at the PDF that outlines weapon changes.
Will you be jumping into some Splatoon matches when the update goes live?

Cool, it's good to still see bug fixes and improvements. I'll have a look at the Sheldon's Picks later and see if any weapons will get my fancy.
I haven't played Splatoon since the SpongeBob SplatFest. I got burned out. I think I'll play it again once this update releases.
Has anyone else accidentally started to take the rain maker back towards their own base by accident?
Interesting changes, basically stop hopping when you shoot!
@CerberusDarkone
Yeah I'm glad they have tweaked that, especially on the blaster.
I wonder if this update includes the Callie/Marie amiibo support or whether there'll be an update in July.
How about a new loadout for the aerospray guns
"Two new kinds of gear"????
Does this mean we're finally getting hairstyles and trousers?
Wishful thinking I know but surely if they just meant 2 items of clothing that's what it would say
Still no voicechat. That's my biggest complaint. I don't play this game anymore except for the odd Splatfest.
I've had to stop playing as my left analogue stick has gone ,well up diagonal right has.It either doesn't respond or moves to the right instead. I was on a quest to reach S before it's year anniversary but I got stuck in the ink. It's at times like this ye realise the burden of the big beast,or should I say Beast of Burden.I'm in Thailand and my Wii U is from the UK,postage isn't going to be cheap.
Anyone have an idea how much Nintendo will charge to repair it for me? I'm going to ask them to put a new right analogue stick in too just in case,it does feel rather loose as it is.
I saw new stage and thought new new new!!!! But alas it wasn't to be😪
It's great to see Nintendo continuously supporting their games like this. Though Splatoon isn't my cup of tea, it's nice for its many fans.
I think they should stop Having new content and constraint on NX one if it carry on at this rate with free DLC ect it's going to fizzle itself out.Im.All for Nintendos refresh but that's enough now don't over saturate it with new weapons that are similar to last lot.Save for NX online voice chat and moving it on then so it feels new.
Whaaat!? They're still doing updates and weapons for this? I thought they were done. Very cool.
Haven't played in months. I think I've got the "inkling" to boot it up again soon.
I'm very hopeful we see a continuation of this franchise on the next generation of Ninty consoles too. There's definitely a fresh demand, and I think it could help draw in new, timid customers.
Never gonna splat you up! Never gonna say good bye... Splatoon (8)
Here's hoping Vol 3 has a new Sloshing Machine for me. They did give it a 15% movement buff, though. I'll have that, thankyouverymuch!
Looking forward to the new update😎
@OorWullie Have you tried blowing into the analogs? I have to do it regularly so that it's more responsive.
@OorWullie I had a similar problem, I had my analog replaced at a mom and pop game shop. Cost me like 40 Canadian dollars. I would suggest looking local before you send to Nintendo.
Also, blasting the analogs with compressed air could work. Could just be dirt bits making a bad connection!
@Porky Cheers,I haven't tried that yet but I will when I get back home. I had a thin piece of card and I ran the corner of it along the inside of it,it did initially seem to make it more responsive but I might have ended up doing more harm than good.
@Gobelee Thanks, unfortunately game stores are rare in Thailand, there is a new one in my city that sells some Wii U stuff but as far as I know they don't do repairs. The compressed air is a good idea,I'll give that a try if blowing in it doesn't work.
I don't know how I feel about all these changes. New content is nice, but I feel inundated with new weapons. Tweaks are fine, I guess, but after taking a break from the game for a while I returned to see familiar stages no longer familiar. That's weird. What you paid for is not necessarily what you get to hold on to.
@Porky I just gave it a blow and it's working grand.Superb man, cheers.I can't believe I never thought of that haha
@Gobelee It's working
Can anyone point me to the guy who posts in here who was trying to arrange a refund for Splatoon because of the gameplay, lag compensation problems. I think he's a writer here but I#m searching and coming up blank. If memory serves me, he has a gingerbread and I thought that might be part of his handle too but hasn't helped with searches.
My Splatoon is worse than ever and Nintendo UK are a joke. I think they must be a team of foreigners with dictionaries in hand as they don't seem to understand a word I'm saying. Either that or they are script monkeys.
@Peterjr1 Yeah, I was wondering what they meant by "new kinds of gear." I suppose we'll just have to wait and see...
@masterLEON I know what I'd like for Volume 3:
Vanilla Sloshing Machine - Splash Wall, Killer Wail
Macro Splash-o-Matic - Seeker, Bubbler
Entropy Blaster - Suction bomb, Inkzooker
Orbital Luna Blaster - Seeker, Inkstrike
Closed .96 Gal - Squid Beakon, Inkstrike
Toybox Trislosher - Suction bomb, Kraken
Frosted Hydra Splatling - Squid Beakon, Killer Wail
Reciprocal Dual Squelcher - Burst bomb, Bubbler
Allotrope Carbon Roller - Splat bomb, Bubbler.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
@OorWullie Good to hear! Perhaps try compressed air like @Gobelee suggested when it's not responding well again so that you won't need to fiddle with the analog for awhile.
Yay! New gear! Except they nerfed Stealth Jump and disabled that awesome Splash Wall glitch... 😟
I want to know what they mean by "two new kinds of gear"! Is it two new kinds of clothes that we never had before? Or two new main abilities? Or just two new pieces of clothing?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Then I guess you've never heard of Teamspeak, Discord, Skype, Steam voice chat or a telephone? Apart from the fact that Splatoon can be played smoothly without vc. But if one wants vc, one can just use an external service.
@HeroOfTime32: Then you've probably missed the last updates too. 2.6.0 and 2.7.0 brought tons of crucial changes, which make it basically a new game.
They never said they would stop with the updates (balancing, adjusting), in January they only said they wouldn't provide new content anymore. And then in March (I think) the head developer of Splatoon was so moved by the fans' passion that he almost cried on stage after a big Splatournament and then he revealed that they changed their mind and that there would be more content updates.
@shani yeah most definitely. I don't think I've picked it up to play since holiday '14. Hopefully this weekend when I boot it up, it's like you said--a whole new game.
That's pretty cool. The head developer should be pretty moved. He created what is essentially, the most successful new IP of the past couple years. I just hope Nintendo doesn't let the heat fizzle. They should definitely ride splatoon into the next gen of consoles and keep the hype going.
Everything is so fresh. The mechanics. The art style. The characters. My favorite part is....the music! Na na na na....nananana!!! I love the theme.
Even though voice chat isn't needed in this gen of splatoon like others mentioned, I hope they take the core game and expand upon it in the (hopefully eventual) sequel. There should definitely be at least private party chat in that. fingers crossed
@HeroOfTime32: There were really tons of changes, so I can't name them all and would advise you to read the patch notes for 2.6.0 and 2.7.0.
But I recently made a 2.7.0 TLDR for someone in the Splatoon thread, so here it is:
-Sheldon's picks, 8 new weapons
-by default, you can only throw 2 burst bombs, their ink consumption is higher, but their painting radius is bigger
-several changes to almost all weapons, the most important for me personally was 50% faster run speed for the Jet Squelcher. You can find the detailed weapon changes here, it's really too much to quote.
-new criterion "special reduction" is introduced and each weapon set (not weapon model!) is divided into three groups: Heavy reduction (75%), medium reduction (60%) and light reduction (40%). Previously all weapons had a special reduction of 50% after being splatted.
-the effect of cold-blooded is reduced to only 50%, which effectively means Point Sensors are strengthened
-Inkstrike fires a lot faster (33%), which makes it more of a viable tool
2.6.0's changes are mostly ability-centric and you can find them here. Essentially, they analyzed which abilities weren't often used by players and why, then they changed them so that they are more useful.
The biggest changes are found in InkSaver(sub), Last-ditch-effort, Opening Gambit, bomb Sniffer, Tenacity, Haunt, and Ink Recovery. The Inksaver(sub) buff allowed you to throw up to 6 burst bombs and 3 of the other bombs, but that changed again with the 2.7.0. Other changes were stuff like this:
-bordering ranks (like B+ and A-) won't be matched against each other
-Splatfest power is now Vibe meter, it starts at a certain level depending on your rank (e.g. 1400 for A-, A and A+) and then changes according to your results
In my opinion the necessity of vc depends on how much skill/intelligence/experience your teammates have. I had lots of matches were me and my teammates had an intuitive understanding; when I did a certain action, my teammates automatically noticed it and acted accordingly - and vice versa. So if you have good players (or players who know each other), I think vc isn't that necessary and I think there lies a beauty in communicating with actions and without words.
But there have also been matches in the lower ranks where my teammates had no clue what I was trying to tell them to get out of danger or to plan ahead when we were leading. But I doubt that those players would've reacted any better if I could've told them directly via vc what the plan is. Some players are just ignorant or immune to feedback.
@shani It enrages me so much to hear this excuse. I tell you what, take a taxi rght around the block when you could just walk straight into your apartment. The means are there, yet Nintendo want us to use voice chat by other methods. This, right here is one major example of how Nintendo need to evolve.
"We'll have to ask Sheldon for the deets."
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You're completely ignoring why Nintendo is doing this (and I think this is very selfish). Your comparison would make way more sense if it would go like this: Take a taxi right around the block instead of walking straight into your apartment, because on the street are some hooligans with deadly weapons, only waiting to kill you.
So you would prefer to let your kids get killed on their way home instead of returning safely home?
It makes total sense to protect the kids from constant insults etc. If you don't know what I mean, just look how players in Lol or Dota are treating each other. Or just watch how people react when they play Splatoon, Mario Kart or Smash. I'm often cursing during a match. And also, vc would totally disctract me from playing and I know a number of people feel similarly. If anyone wants vc, they can use an external service, I really don't see the problem with that.
I would enjoy it more if they cycled between three levels per hour for a little more variety. It looks like they planned for that with the space below the level names that looks like an empty space. I assumed they were planning on adding it in an update by I guess it would have happened already if that was the case.
Aside from that the sequel needs two (four) player online so me and my kid can play it together.
@shani So many easy solutions. There's this thing called the "mute" button. Not good enough? How about an option to chat to friends only?
Honestly, I bought a Marvel Heroes Turtle Beach headset earlier this week. Good deal and top quality. The thing is I've very few games to use it on. I've MK8, where I can talk to friends between each race, which is lame, we should be able to laugh and joke in races. If I want to find a proper voice chat experience I've to look at third parties for that option, like MH3U and Blops 2.
Well, it's a start, at least. I still think that some of the Blasters need slightly less 'homing' capability, as it's a little cheap when you get shot from round a corner, or over the other side of the tower. None of the weapons really interest me to play, but I am dreading facing off against those Splash Wall Chargers...As if Sniping was bad enough already. XD
This game just keeps giving .
When's splatfest !
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Your "solution" isn't a solution, the damage is already done before you mute the voices. Also, not every child will mute them. So you see, a mute button would only make things worse.
Nobody laughs and jokes during Mario Kart. Everyone I've ever seen any version of Mario Kart is constantly cursing during races.
The solution with the mute button doesn't work, because then it using vc would become the standard, which in turn would mean a disadvantage for all the players who mute their mic. Having to use vc (until you find the option to mute it) would also alienate people who have never played a shooter (or multiplayer game) before. One of the many reasons why Splatoon is successful is because its accessible to everyone, no matter what your background is.
Why is it so hard for you to use an external vc service? There is no downside for people who want to use vc, it only has benefits for those who don't want/should use vc.
@shani The other option, amongst friends, what's your problem with that?
Also, what was the point of parental controls when they were never used?
Two new kinds of gear!?!? What does it mean!?!?!!?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I've played Counterstrike Source and Go, Evolve, Titanfall, every CoD since Black Ops 1, every Battlefield game since Bad Company 2, Payday 2, Splatoon, Battleborn and Overwatch. Basically, I have played all the big shooters of the last years and let me tell you this: not once has the ingame voice chat been used in a useful way. It's only use is to annoy other people or insult them. There is no need for a ingame voice chat function, since the only people that use it are exactly the ones you DON'T want to hear talking. If you really want to play with your friends there are other means to communicate with your friends like people already told you. And no, the mute button is not a solution, because if everyone uses the mute button the question arises why a developer wasted time for a feature that will be ignored by the majority of the user base
