A couple months back, it was announced that Hyper Light Drifter may not actually make it to the Wii U, as originally promised. Due to contractual issues with the developers of GameMaker – the engine it was developed for – it seems that the Wii U port has been put out to pasture, though there is still hope that the game could still possibly see release on the platform. That all being said, the game is set to release on consoles late this summer, and the announced Collector's Edition looks pretty awesome.
Along with the code that will allow users to download the game, this edition will also come with a light blue SNES cartridge, as well as an SNES-style box, a 24-page manual, and a world map. Unfortunately, the SNES cartridge actually doesn't work in a real console, but it will nonetheless be a nice display piece. You can find the Collector's Edition through here, hopefully there'll be some good news on the Wii U front soon.
What do you think? Will you be picking up Hyper Light Drifter? Do you think it'll eventually come to Wii U? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Such a shame... it would be awesome if the SNES cartridge worked! It would be funny if a game was able to have been developed for a 25-year old system but not an 8th-generation one. (On a semi-related note (Game Maker), I really hope they find a way to port Undertale to the Wii U somehow, I would buy it Day One!)
To be honest, that cyan color looks kinda ugly. (It also reminds me of Wisdom Tree )
<_< Snes cartridge but won't be on a Nintendo system.
Cartridge looks nice and the book might be cool, but besides making it more money, what's the point? I don't care what the box looks like lemme see some screenshots.
I was gonna "rage" if the SNES version worked, but it wasn't gonna be on the WiiU!
What the point to make it look like a snes cartridge and not be on a Nintendo platform. They would be better off going old style PlayStation case.
I can't believe the SNES cartridge don't work, it's totally useless. And the Hyper light don't have any release date on Wii U? What's the use, Oh what's the use??? Hope for NX!!
@Fiyaball Wuuut!! That's my favorite color!!

Well that's lame and pointless. It's a Nintendo themed bundle that doesn't come to a Nintendo system. Why bother with it now
Nice package but a waste of plastic on the useless SNES cartridge there.
CE gets a SNES cartridge but it's not coming to the only Nintendo console? Okay now that's just cruel.
The game doesn't play? Laaame.
Why have they done a SNES cartridge? Did this used to be on the SNES or something? And are they allowed to rip off the look of a SNES cartridge, would Nintendo allow that?
All just seems haphazard and random to me, especially with the fact it isn't releasing on a Nintendo console.
The game looks beautiful and has a "soulsborne" taste in it. It is definitely in my radar as well as Salt and Sanctuary.
Does this news means we will have a physical release too (not interested in the collectors edition)?
Not gonna lie, that collector's edition looks simply awesome! I don't really care if it gets a Wii U port because I will be getting it on Xbox One regardless, I have been waiting on this game for quite a long time and I can only hope it was worth it.
I used to have a SNES cart like that, it would open up to reveal a cleaning kit.
I've been waiting for this game for SO LONG! It HAS to happen!
It'll almost be like trolling if it doesn't end up on a Nintendo system.
@SetupDisk
My thoughts exactly
That is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen If that actually worked on SNES I would pay big bucks for it but no. It's Wii U or nothing so we'll see.
SUCH A GORGEOUS COLLECTORS!!!! I WANT, COME TO WIIU PLEASE. I have the PC version of this game, and as there's some difficulty, it's still a beautiful and great game!
just wow, how lame. I don't care how retro you want to call it. but wasting money on a non working snes cart when the dev wont even put the game on a Nintendo system. I wont buy this game now, I don't care how good, unless they put it on wii u or nx...
The collectors edition looks quality, would have been awesome on the Wii U maybe an NX version.
I got it on Steam a couple of months ago and I must say that this game is amazing. Since it's made in Game Maker, the graphics are similar to Titan Souls and a bit of a step up from Undertale. To be honest, I don't care if it comes out on Wii U or not because the Eshop almost never has sales that actually matter whereas Steam has sales almost every week. That's why I buy all my Nintendo games physically.
Btw to everyone annoyed the dev CANNOT put the game on Wii U as Game Maker ️games cannot run on Wii U. The contract with Game Maker also stops him from porting it to another format.
Would be cool if the cartridge held the soundtrack ala 8-bit Music Power.
The whole reason I supported the HLD kickstarter is because of the Wii u version, and I wanted to make my first online purchase, now seeing the SNES style cart. Kinda wished I payed that extra 25 dollars, I'm sad its not coming to Wii u, but I recently got a ps4 so I'm glad for that still, what if I didn't have a PS4 or PC that didn't run it, what would I do? If the Wii u version does get announced then I'll change my order. Seems irreverent to make snes cart now, seeing it's not going to come to Wii u
Surrrre the cartridge doesn't work. It probably opens an inter dimensional door of some sort the moment u pop it in an SNES. Looks great. I will have this game
Although the Wii U version is what I wanted, I broke and got Steam with a ps4 controller on pc just to play this. Totally worth it.
Confusing! This is categorized in Wii U E Shop, but it's not available on the Wii U. It's a picture of an SNES cartridge that doesn't work in an SNES. So, it's not available at all on any Nintendo platform?
Whats the point in a NES cartridge case if it's not on NES or WII U? :/
