The latest Media Create results are in to show what's hot and what's not in Japan, and they reflect a relatively stagnant hardware market and fairly predictable brand power, with a couple of new releases struggling to impress.
The top two games are both on 3DS this week, with Yo-kai Sangokushi still leading (it's a crossover with Koei Tecmo's Three Kingdoms IP), with Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 in second place. The only new arrival on Nintendo hardware is Disney Art Academy in fourth place with just 17,717 sales; as a point of comparison Pokémon Art Academy sold just over 31,000 units in Japan when it launched in 2014. The top 20 is below with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [3DS] Yo-kai Sangokushi (Level-5, 04/02/16) – 90,196 (359,712)

- [PS4] Far Cry Primal (Ubisoft, 04/07/16) – 25,302 (New)
- [3DS] Disney Art Academy (Nintendo, 04/07/16) – 17,717 (New)

- [PS4] Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (Square Enix, 03/31/16) – 10,383 (123,408)
- [Wii U] Pokken Tournament (Pokemon, 03/18/16) – 8,065 (120,366)
- [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (SCE, 03/19/15) – 7,374 (730,835)

- [3DS] Assassination Classroom: Assassin Training Plan (Bandai Namco, 03/24/16) – 5,205 (34,852)
- [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Happy Price Selection) (Nintendo, 03/17/16) – 5,128 (27,492)
- [PSV] Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X (Sega, 03/24/16) – 4,623 (84,135)
- [PSV] Brother's Conflict: Precious Baby (Idea Factory, 04/07/16) – 3,476 (New)
- [PS4] The Division (Ubisoft, 03/10/16) – 3,422 (123,282)
- [PS4] Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence Sengoku Risshiden (Koei Tecmo, 03/24/16) – 3,325 (28,332)
- [3DS] Tomodachi Life (Happy Price Selection) (03/17/16) – 3,166 (16,389)
- [XBO] Quantum Break (Microsoft, 04/07/16) – 3,124 (New)
- [3DS] Yo-kai Watch Busters Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad (Level-5, 07/11/15) – 2,671 (2,243,803)
Moving on to hardware, all systems aside from Wii U and Xbox One record drops, with Nintendo's home console almost hitting a modest target of 5,000 units. The New 3DS LL (XL) is still in second place, with the 3DS family as a whole coming just short of catching the PS4; results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- PlayStation 4 – 23,889 (30,081)
- New 3DS LL – 18,042 (22,020)
- PlayStation Vita – 13,278 (17,153)
- Wii U – 4,963 (3,541)
- New 3DS – 4,420 (5,376)
- 3DS – 1,411 (2,069)
- PlayStation 3 – 1,296 (1,537)
- 3DS LL – 242 (342)
- Xbox One – 212 (207)
A good week for established brands on the 3DS, though Nintendo and Disney may be a little disappointed with the relatively slow start for the latest Art Academy release.

Wow an xbox title at 19! Animal crossing is just missing an anime series to boost sales more
I did quick math in my head...but if those numbers are correct, it seems the 3ds family DID catch the PS4.
Please list the UK / USA markets like this article's please. Lists are some much easier.
Honestly most impressed that a Xbox one title in Japan broke into the top 20. That is not something you see everyday.
Probably should of called it "Frozen and Friends Art Academy" but I guess the Frozen Cash Train is finally freezing up...
@mattesdude Your math is correct 3DS family did sell more than PS4
This might be only the first or second time ever a XBONE title has been in the top 20 in Japan since its launch month. <_<
@Angelic_Lapras_King Ice see what you did there. Snow worries, I'm hearing you loud and clear~
Also, gimme Yokai watch already!!!
I'm a little shocked by the art academy sales. Disney is big in Japan and drawing is a popular hobby. Oh well. You win some you lose some I guess. Perhaps it will have legs.
I really need to check out Quantum Break. I wouldn't mind seeing how that Assassination Classroom plays too. I love that series.
Youkai watch is really making it up for the Wii U flop. Seems to be reflecting Pokemon, where even the spinoffs sell a lot better on handhelds.
Of course Yo-Kai is leading; it's like the new Pokemon over there. Meanwhile, Europe doesn't even have the first game yet!
How the hell did an xbox one game have 3100 sales. I don't think there is even 3100 xbox ones in japan.
A quarter of a million copies of DS3 sold in Japan, before International release. I guess we know which game is going to be topping the NPD charts this month.
More so when you consider that DS3 is essentially only selling on the PS4 in Japan and will have 2 considerable install bases to draw sales from.
I've never understood the appeal of a Pokémon / YW type game, but I guess the Japanese love those sorts of experiences. I'd prefer they died off this year, but that's just my own personal opinion.
