We may have praised optional invincibility options very recently, but as noted there we also highlighted how third parties and download games can provide old-school difficulty to keep gaming ninjas busy. An example of this is Mutant Mudds Super Challenge, which takes the formula of the first game and adds a whole lot of deaths.
With tough stage designs and boss fights, the new entry - due on Wii U and 3DS on 17th March - is keen to promote its difficulty level as a selling point. The latest trailer for the game does just that, with Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham adopting a retro commercial approach to celebrate a return of challenging gaming.
Check it out below and let us know if you're tempted to pick this up on 17th March; remember that cross-buy is supported, so both versions will be up for grabs at one price.

Nice video. Still busy trying to beat the Mega Man Legacy game so i probably should hold off on getting this until i can really sink my teeth into it.
Virtual Boy controller, nice.
Awesome trailer. Completely reminiscent of 90's gaming commercials. Love it!
"Get gud or get rekt."
Now THAT'S a tagline if I've ever heard one!
cross-buy is a very welcome surprise for me
The guy in the video looks like Kit Ellis from Nintendo Treehouse in like 25 years
Haha, I love this commercial! I can tell they had fun making it!
This is making me get even more pumped up. I decided to replay the first game just to adapt to the difficulty level of Super Challenge and I've been really hooked to the game again these past couple of days.
I just love how stupid and over the top this trailer is.
Awesome trailer.
Although I question Jools and his mental health
By the way, CuttingHedgeGames leads to the Renegade Kid Website. GENIUS
i remember one of nintendo super fan boys here said that nintendo can't do cross buy for SNES VC cuz the system can't handle it ( people can hack it so easy ) and nintendo can't fix it .... but for this indie game actually you can buy it as a cross-buy !!! hmmmmmm ...
Just annoys me that mutant mudds proves cross buy is perfectly possible but Nintendo choses not to do so! Still I'll get this soon after pokken tournament when I have the money!
@GloverMist Definitely the tagline for any hard game. Period.
I still play the first here and there. Very cool retro game! Once I beat it, I'll move on to this.
That was cute
Get good or get rekt? What is this, For Glory?
@peeks Nice. I had the same thought.
Going to buy this the moment it's on eShop.
Looks better than the first!
Looking forward to this one and the new soundtrack!
Man, for a moment I was like, waaat, there's physical? And then I read the disclaimer. Oh well, still getting it the moment I get home from work Thursday.
I'd get during work Thursday the moment it hits the eShop, but for some reason work has blocked my 3DS. Would've thought my cell had used far more bandwidth than the 3DS, but as I'm reading NL right now that is not the case.
@Nego Same here. I played back through it on 3DS and then wanted more...So I started playing through again on Wii U.
Picked it up, not much of a masochist but I enjoyed Super Meat Boy so I imagine I'll at least enjoy this, even if I don't beat it. The cross-buy combined with the 15% discount was just too tempting a deal, I love cross-buy eshop deals.
Lol: Nice cheesy commercial. By the way: Is that a virtual-boy controller?
