Back in October of last year, it was hinted that the super-hard platformer Super Meat Boy - previously intended for the original Wii - might be headed to the Wii U.
During today's European Nintendo Direct broadcast, footage of the game was shown during a segment intended to highlight the various games already available for Nintendo systems, and those on the horizon.
It was only a short clip, but this is the first official confirmation we've had that the title is indeed coming to the Wii U. It's been a long wait for Nintendo fans, but it's finally over.
The clip is shown below. Skip to the 2:15 mark to see Meat Boy do his stuff.

Oh? I don't recall this being in the North American Direct. There's another difference to check off the list.
Did I just blink and miss that announcement?
Wow. Didn't see that coming.
That seems to have come out of nowhere. I liked the game, so I'll probably pick it up again.
Meat Boy approves this article.
It wasn't in the North America one
Finally, something to be excited for!! (besides MonHunGens)
I'm always reading lots of praise for this game but from what I've seen of it,it doesn't look like anything special.I thought the same about Cave Story too though but once I played it I loved it.
3DS (even N3DS) would've been better because at least then I could justify buying it a third time, but this is still cool.
Super Meat Boy is easily the best platformer since Super Mario World. Everyone should get this game! It's incredible.
YEEEEESSSSS
Well, better late than never! Haven't played Meat Boy in a while, but I remember enjoying it.
Have had this on PC for years. Will probably pick up here for Off-TV.
Yeah sounds good, I've heard this game is quite hard.
@OorWullie Super Meat Boy is a ridiculously hard platformer, but it'll only appeal to those that want to play a ridiculously hard platformer. It excels at this by having levels that are designed very well, and tight controls.
I played the computer version years ago. It was very fun, but can also be frustrating at times.
I don't recall Super Meat Boy being a playable Smash character.
(if you get this one joke, here's a cookie)
Overrated garbage imo
But I'm happy for those looking forward to it
I dislike the developer and his entitled attitude, but the game itself is pretty good.
What characters will include exlcusive to this version?
@yuwarite glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks like this. I was surprised to see such arrogance from the dev.
I feel like this is a little too late, especially for a studio that toyed with the idea of having meat boy as a playable character in smash. After all, this game is playable on the Vita and PS TV of all places before even coming to any Nintendo system. Better late than never?
Great game but I completed it many years ago on 360 so there is little chance in me purchasing it again on Wii U, though I think first time players are in for a treat!
What? How could this happen? Unless some ridiculous unannounced smash bros update is on the way, this shouldn't be possible.

I finished this game when the Wii U wasn't even released yet! It's too late Nintendo. I'm not buying anything for the Wii U anymore! I really hope that the NX will get all the new titles at the same time as the other platforms.
Better late than never. It's too bad the Smash Ballot is already over but oh well there's always Super Smash Bros. V.
So Meat boy got into smash?
Too late, Team Meat. I already bought the game for a buck on Steam during the holiday sale. If you can add enough to the Wii U version, I might pay full price.
Will it have the original soundtrack??
If I recall correctly, Super Meat Boy was meant to be on WiiWare but ended up not making it due to the memory restrictions of the service. Still at least it made a Nintendo console in the end!
Glad to hear it but the game is a little late to the party.
Shame that it will most likely have the crappy music instead of the PC original.
But still awesome news. Really cool to finally see SMB on Nintendo platform.
@Kolzig Due to a internal fallout if I recall?
@Captain_Toad Yeah, I remember reading something like that. Shame...
