Not so long ago Sega of America was rather silly - it arranged a panel at SXSW that was streamed online and promised a 'special reveal'. To say that fans were unimpressed at the end would be an understatement.
In addition to announcing a Sonic 25th Anniversary Event in San Diego on 22nd July, it was also confirmed that Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice would arrive on 3DS in North America on 27th September. There weren't many parades celebrating the announcement, unfortunately.
Nintendo of Europe has now confirmed its region's release date, which falls just a few days later.
To be fair, its predecessor on 3DS was better than the nonsense we had on Wii U, so we're hopeful this will offer up some solid platforming fun.
As no proper trailer beyond an old announcement is available, watch this instead...

Seems like it's coming out much, much later than originally slated then.
That may actually be a good thing.
Been burned far too many times to ever be excited for Sonic again.
I think I'll skip this. If it was 2015 release then sure as there was a gigantic 3DS drought back then (not even a proper Pokemon game) but 2016 is extremely packed especially with Hyrule Warriors Legends and Fire Emblem Fates.
I'm looking forward to seeing what's been enhanced and added
Achievement Unlocked: Vanilla Ice on Nintendo Life... in context!
Unrelated by as there is no article yet, Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition is available to Pre-order from GAME in the UK! Only £69.99

EDIT: Annnnnd 4 minutes later, you guys make me look like an idiot XD
That's when my birthday is! YAY!
Can't say I'm excited though I would like to be.
Provided I can find this for a good price, I'll pick this up.
Like what I've seen so far & given its extra development time, I think it'll surprise us..(in a good way hopefully)
I'm gonna hold off buying this till reviews come out. The first one, whilst not bad, wasn't great either, ESPEVIALLY content wise. Here's hoping it's a good one!
And still no mention of EU release of 7th Dragon for 3DS. Come on Sega, you're so much more than just Sonic.
Hmmm. They really have been hyping this up and I can't see why. Remove the boom and keep it sonic the hedgehog or add rush (I loved rush!) And I'd be far more hyped!
@Grumblevolcano Both games you mentioned are already out, plus Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice is the only 3DS game currently confirmed for a September release. I wouldnt call that time "packed" just yet.
@MetaRyan Hyrule Warriors Legends came out last week but has new content coming until November. FE Fates isn't out in EU until May 20th and even then there's the 3 stories and at least 2 large map packs.
To be fair the 3ds version was shockingly poor even if it wasn't actually broken loke the WiiU one
that video is extremely relevant lol!
@Grumblevolcano That DLC really crowds the market, doesn't it.
I really hope Fire & Ice's delay was to make sure the game was good, and not only to release alongside Season 2 of the TV show.
Oh, and we knew the "special reveal" wasn't going to be a game, do I'm not sure how Sega of America was silly. More like misinformed fans were silly.
@DoctorOverbuild They want it to share hype with the television series. I really liked Shattered Crystal, and they said in an interview this one would take more inspiration from Rush with more rewarding branched style paths. I'd say treat it like normal Sonic and it will hopefully be good.
@Nik-Davies Nah, you are cool. Thanks mate.
@Wuvwii Hey if it's more like rush I'm happy!
@MetaRyan Maybe not for Fire Emblen Fates when the DLC only adds a couple maps every week, but for Hyrule Legends every Adventure Map added is hundreds of hours of playtime EACH. So yes.
Well, considering that Sanzaru is pretty decent with working with feedback AND this game has been delayed for a year, I think I can at least expect decency from this. I'll be satisfied if it lives up to Sonic Rush or Sonic Advance.
