As we all know, Super Mario Kart on the SNES allows 8 famous faces from the Mushroom Kingdom to challenge one another in a no-holds-barred race to the finish line. Subsequent entries in the franchise have added more driver choice to the roster, but YouTube user Hat-Loving Gamer clearly feels Nintendo hasn't gone anywhere near far enough and has created a unique vision which sees 101 drivers struggling to negotiatie the winding curves of Mushroom Plains.
The video - which must have taken quite some time to put together - is packed with characters not only from Nintendo's back catalogue, but the history of gaming in general. You can see the full list in the video's description on YouTube, but our personal highlights include Alex Kidd, Ecco the Dolphin, Halo's Master Chief and the fire-breathing dragon which accompanies Tyris Flare's most powerful magical attack in Golden Axe.
Give it a watch and let us know which faces you got a kick out of seeing.

This is amazing. Scorpion and Sub Zero had me! And Charizard wins
Anyone manage to see Ken or Knuckles?
Oh my gosh, lol. That's crazy.
I thought this was an actual hack someone did until later in the video.
This is hysterical. That many characters on the screen on an SNES game is so funny to see.
Did I spy someone going Turbo in this video?
I wish there's a real 'Rush Hour' track like that in Mario Kart, traffic jam to the max and getting a Star will be so sweet... knocking everyone off the track like bowling pins.
This is amazing. Just... wow.
Silly Hat Loving Gamer, Goku isn't a video game character
But this video looks sweet. Gotta wait til I get to a place with better wifi to watch the whole thing.
We just need something like that in the real games. Like an extra mode where you could get a Star and mow down tons of opponents. That'd be totally awesome.
Besides that, though, I'm amazed at the detail of those sprites. Pikmin seem to be quite fast for such little critters!
That's awesome! XD
Why is Ash from Pokémon there? He was literally in one video game ever - Pokémon Puzzle League for the N64.
I saw Daisy!!! But for some reason she's just a Peach recolour...
CJ's appearance was the best one. Bar none.
Haha the gta reference
Olimar and his Pikmin!!
This is one of those things that I had no idea I needed in my life until I saw it.
I loved the Pikmin one. And that ending seems like something that'd happen to me.
(Completely unrelated to the video... @JusticeColde Is your profile pic a photoshopped photo of Travis Kelce? If so that's frick'n hilarious. If not never mind.)
MAKE THIS HAPPEN NOW!!!
Where's Shrek?
@Wes880 I was waiting for someone to notice it. Yeah boi.
Super Mario Kart Maker?
Tetris blocks can operate a vehicle...?
Also, Toad beating up Falcon and jacking his car.
Dr. Eggman though! Hilarious!
Oh my Rosalina, I thought I could see flippin' Waldo in there. This video was pure genius. Carl Johnson stealing Toad's kart was the cherry on top of it.
Pong? Toad pulled a Sonic R and ran for it.
This guy is good
It would be really fun to see a hack of Mario Kart that adds all of the characters added to the series, as well as many of the new items. Heck, it would be cool to see SNES 'de-makes' of classic tracks from more modern games in the series. I would totally play that.
101?! that would take hours to get to 1st xD
I've always enjoyed Hat's video's but while the attention to detail is great, the attention to the actual game physics is always laughably bad. One video in particular which was also posted on NL was a recreation of Kalamari Desert on SMK and while technically impressive, watching the karts slide around with no attention to the physics from SMK or even MK64 really took me out of it. The physics in this video are less jarring in my opinion as I was focusing more on watching every cameo fight for position on the track, and just really wanted to participate, lol!
