The UK chart results have come out, and unfortunately it's the fourth week in a row with no Nintendo titles in the top 40; we wrote a little about those woes recently. While that's a shame, there have been some interesting movements in the Nintendo-only charts.
Most notably The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D rose from 15th place to take top-spot in the 3DS charts this week; a quick online search shows this was likely driven by heavy discounts at supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury's. It was available for around £20, which clearly got quite a few players off the fence. There were also modest jumps for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, though they were still down in 9th and 17th places respectively.
Unsurprisingly the retail version of Pokémon Rumble World had a modest reception; it's the re-fitted version of the free-to-play download and made its debut in 11th place in the 3DS-only chart. Boxed versions of previous download-only games rarely set the charts alight, with one of the better performers in memory being New Super Luigi U.
Meanwhile, despite being released nearly a year ago Majora's Mask 3D is just a discount away from being enjoyed by more 3DS owners.

It was £8 new on Amazon last week. Not sure if those sales count for these charts though.
Majora's Mask, Luigi's Mansion and Monster Hunter were all for 8 pounds at Tesco's, later price-matched by Amazon, so no wonder the sales skyrocketed managed to get myself 1 copy as well!
All that matters is that Life Is Strange made the top ten:D
"Great game for less money works, who knew?" Well, Nintendo certainly don't seem to.
Not going to lie, when it comes to sales charts all I need to do is either go to PushSquare and view the thumbnail image/tagline to get the information I need, or you know, look out the window and see the sky is still blue.
It was £8, not 20, on amazon and tesco. Monster hunter was also £8 at tesco, while Luigis mansion was £8.50 on both. So that explains all their sales bumps.
"Great game for less money works, who knew?"
The last two words perfectly incapsulate the thought process behind Nintendo's prices.
Bayonetta 2 is only £12 on the Nintendo store yet it only jumped from 20th to 18th on the Wii U chart.Considering the 1st place Wii U title hasn't even made the top 40,it's probably being generous saying it sold 100 copies.
@BLPs Hey BLPS is that really you? You back from holiday or your happy pill prescription run out?
Just bought Unfinished Swan for $3 and Cel Damage HD for $2 on PSN. So I bare witness to the truth, sales sell.
Whhat? I must have missed that sale.
@rjejr
Oh man we need a better way to communicate XD Yeah it's me. Just finished my first semester of my second year at university last Friday, spent the weekend with my girlfriend and my second semester started today.
And I'm on new happy pills now and they want me to have a blood test because they think my anxiety and depression is being amplified by something. Fun for me never stops.
How ya been doing though?
Well, it is an old game. Why would anyone pay full price? Unless they haven't purchased it yet and it's a new game for them.
Nooooo! I find out about those prices now!
I know great new Wii U games are just not coming out right now...but no where does Nintendo do as bad on the charts as in the UK...sometimes I just feel like it's you guys that are Nintendo fans at all...
Ummm I really would have appreciated an article about that sale while it was happening...
It's always great to hear about a sale after its finished.
@BLPs Oh you know me, I'm a grumpy old man, can't teach an old dog new tricks. Though the 24" of snow we got 2 days ago means I'm now a creaky crackly groany grumpy old man. If we get any more snow I'm going to have to put off my PS4 purchase - I'm waiting on an Uncharted 4 or R&C bundle - and buy a snow blower.
Glad to know your still alive and kicky. They just switched my wife's meds to fish oil, 4,000mg a day. I think that's an entire whale per day. Does your doc know your a Ntinedo fan? How much more freakin' stress can you get than that? It's all NX rumours for the next few moths, then and then 6 months of complaining once we finally find out what it is. Perfect time for me to get a PS4 and try it ignore it all.
@rjejr
Neat I got a PS4 in October. A R&C bundle aint happening because Sony just cast it out to die as a budget title with weird release dates. And that annoys me.
TBH I'm barely kicking. New girlfriend, wearing my BLPs branded jacket and mug (That's me in the image yes) and just generally chilling.
I got Majora's Mask 3D a couple of months back for £20. I didn't want to pay full price for the game because I purchased the original for full price when it was released on the N64.
"Great game for less money works, who knew?" - Clearly not Nintendo
Best Zelda game ever made. Well, at least until we get Zelda U...
Skull Girls 2nd Encore (really, a steal at 10$), Hotline Miami for 2$ and Transistor for 5$ is great.
And still enough cash on the card to grab Cel Damage and Flower.
Jeez, sorry guys.
I'm just dreaming about what a Nintendo flash sale would be like, but I honestly can't stretch my imagination that far.
I mean, these deals mentioned are great. But the game cases are close to the size of a system and yet still too small to store properly.
I feel old saying this, but wow do handhelds not appeal to me right now.
How the bloody hell did you guys get alerted to those great deals?
Majora's Mask has much better and innovative story, and Ocarina of Time has much better dungeons (but more plain story). Majora's Mark is such a memorable game.
@wazlon I also purchased the original for full price, but I also had to buy the Expansion Pak! I was a teenager with little money in my pockets.
Majora's Mask has always been one of my favourite games, so I got the 3DS special edition, but I have to complain about how greedy and stingy Nintendo's pricing is. Now I want to get Twilight Princess HD (I have the Wii version) but I'm not willing to pay thaaaaaat much for a slightly improved remaster. I don't care about amiibos but I don't want to miss extra features.
@BLPs "with weird release dates"
Can't blame Sony too much for the release date, the movie got delayed, and it makes sense to match up a movie tie-in w/ when the movie releases. And it should be a "budget" title, it's an HD remaster of the first game, and we already had an HD remaster of the first game in the now 3 gams for $19.99 budget priced trilogy. So in a way $40 for this is about $20 too much. I actually decided yesterday to wait and get it $20 for Christmas.
Though we can blame Sony for releasing Uncharted 4 2 weeks later, though that may be on Naughty Dog.
Even w/ all that, should still be a good game. It was the first time.
@rjejr
Let's pray its good. Because that budget release price for the work going in and the way Sony isn't pushing it at all, has me worried.
We need a better way to talk. I keep drinking JD here. XD
Lol so if you had a great well made,hyped up to hell product that you knew most people would be buying it anyway and were just about to release it,you'd put it out cheap af!?? No you put it out at a slightly inflated price then bring down later to glean the cheapskates later. Nintendos business plan since the day dot.
At least it was worth the money and finished in when I was released.
@VanillaLake I was fortunate to already have an expansion pack bundled with Donkey Kong 64.
I got Twilight Princess on Gamecube plus Wii and I've still pre-ordered Twilight Princess HD with the Wolf Link amiibo. It's one of my favourite games of all time.
Guess I'm a bit of a sucker for some games and I know Nintendo are ripping me off. On the bright side I didn't pay a penny for Wind Waker HD as I got the EShop version for free when I registered Mario Kart 8.
@wazlon I never had Donkey Kong 64 until the Wii U release. I borrowed it back in the day, but my friend asked me to return it before I could beat it (and I was/am a good person). Recently, I beat the Wii U version (101%) and I have to say I've never used more restore points in my life. It's brutally difficult to get 101% in DK64, but it's not mandatory so I can't complain too much. I prefer the Donkey Kong Country trilogy anyway, specially DKC2.
Twilight Princess is also one of my favourite games of all time. The only thing I think that was not perfect to me was that the soundtrack, which is great but scarce, with lots of moments in silent. Ocarina of Time had more music, or was it just me?
Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Super Mario World are my other favourites. Obviously, I believe Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess are the best Zelda games ever made, and Super Mario World the best Mario game.
I identify with you, I'm a sucker for some games too, and I know Nintendo is ripping us because of that, which is not very nice. Same as you, I got Wind Waker HD for free when I registered Mario Kart 8.
I don't know what to do about Twilight Princess HD. I'd like to get a good deal for the retail version, because it's one of my favourite games, too. A boxed copy can't hurt. I'm not a fan of amiibos though.
So yeah we're pretty the same about these games.
@BLPs You think this Faber guy owns a Wii U? Or likely some Nintendo stock?
