Splatoon is out now and thrilling Wii U owners as we speak, but the game we're playing at the moment is a long way off being the finished article - Nintendo has plenty of other content planned, including new modes, maps and weapons.
Thanks to the Prima official game guide to Splatoon, we can get a taste for some of these elements. Four new maps and nine new weapons are on the way, including some awesome guns based on the iconic NES Zapper.
The Prima guide itself is well worth a look and can be purchased for $9.99 / £7.19 in digital format. Alternatively, you can pick up the physical version at Amazon or Amazon UK.
Anyway, here's the good stuff - and don't forget to read our review - we recently added a score after testing the online side of things over the weekend. Spoiler: we bloody loved it.

Ah, I was wondering why "Kelp Dome" was included in the single player missions and not in the map rotation. Should prove to be a very fun map with it's alternate grid upper ways providing slower movement but higher ground to snipe players below.
Aren't there new online modes coming as well? It would have been nice to make thIs article complete with information on all incoming content.
The inkbrush looks pretty good from the direct footage. Looking forward to that.
Splatoon really needs a free-for-all turf war mode. It would be amazing to have a turf war with 8 different ink colours going at once, to see who can claim the map the most out of everyone.
@Joshhmarshh Must agree, that free for all is a must!
I also think the games needs to extend over time with more players with slightly larger games, Im thinking 8 vs 8 if the game really is popular enough. Only problem with all that is the actual online players. Does anyone know the peak players online? And generally the average so far?
The Inkbrush reminds me a LOT of the Magic Paintbrush from Super Mario Sunshine.
Reported this news to you guys ages ago
According to the Splatoon Direct, it looked like there were more than just 4 maps being added. There were place holders for a total of about 8 or 9.
Carbon Roller!
Well, we're getting Port Mackerel and the NES Zapper gun, in addition to Ranked Battles tomorrow!
Those maps look great, except for the shipping one haha. Looks like a Doom 1 mutliplayer map. Boxes! all boxes!
Ink Brush for me and any weapon with high rate of fire with Bubbler!
To be clear, the Prima Guide specifies that this is only a samplingbif some of the new content coming in the future, implying there will likely be more.
I find it funny that they included both the original NES black zapper, and the orange zapper.
Didn't they change the colour to orange, specifically because the black one resembled a gun?
I don't know the stats yet, but I've got to rock that N-zap89. Not only do I have a real life one, but it's the year I was born.
@RupeeClock short answer: yes. IIRC, the US introduced legislation that forced toy gun manufacturers to use bright colours for their products.
Love it that there are two Zappers. The orange one is (and always was) ugly, but including both as variations on each other is a clever move by Nintendo.
Now, can we expect a Super Scope in a future update?
The game is amazingly fun but is definitely incomplete.....hopefully they keep rolling out new maps, modes, items, etc. As well as it seems to have sold I hope it means extra content above and beyond what they originally planned will be coming.
@RupeeClock - are you concerned that the Squid Police will shoot an Inkling thinking the zapper is a real gun?
This is gonna be a splatoon year, and tbh, I think I'll love it:)
@Joshhmarshh Yeah, I was thinking about that the other day too.
It would be a bit like GoldenEye's Paintball Mode cheat...one of the coolest things ever imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1TV9yCy1UM
@Ninty4thewin
It would have been funny if you had said you l(ink) doesn't work!
@Fiyaball
Brush is more like Epic Mickey!
@Mooj738 I think increasing the scale of a game for no reason isn't a good thing, the 4v4 is good competetively, allowing for battles and also people who want to spread ink. sure maybe as a silly mode but apart from that i think 4v4 is great
I am really digging the Splatoon guide, its so small and cute. Glad I bought it.
SOOOOO HYPED!!!!!!!!!!!
They should add a Wii Zapper as well
I hope we get night time settings. Bluefin Depot in the night time looked really cool!
